I went a lot in the field, but the Obya introduced myself to the UAZ for the first time. Looking ahead, I will say right away - the first acquaintance was not the most successful.
On my positive impulse, UAZ Hunter, equipped with modern by the standards of ZMZ 409th gasoline engine, answered with continuous whims. Although it all started optimistic. The first meeting took place on Thursday at the editorial office. The weather pleased with warmth, and the weekend loomed ahead. The unpretentious, in the spirit of solid socialism, the interior of the machine in such circumstances seemed not at all wretched, but rather brutal and therefore, even a little glamorous. On the back door next to a massive full -sized stock - a solid nameplate 2.7i, color - green noble metallic, disks - casting, sorry for the stamp - poorly, but clean ... in a word, looking at this brainchild of Ulyanovsk auto -builders, negative There were no emotions. And when, at the first request, the motor was earned, all the negative porridge accumulated over many years - the fruit of the activities of colleagues -journalists - and completely flew out of my head.
The action plan was as follows. Friday: a test drive on off-road and a photo shoot. Saturday: a consumer test for the suitability of a car for family use (a 2.5-year offspring was promised a walk on the shopping tank for a brand new bicycle, as well as a trip to the circus). Sunday: the end of the test and return the car to the owner. The first part of the test the hunter was excellent. Yes, and it would be stupid if the machine created for active off -road driving could not give pleasure when crossing the ravines, hopeless at first glance, puddles and geological faults. At some moments, the driver even creates a dangerous feeling of complete permissiveness.
The family test turned out to be not so smooth. The household with pleasure climbed into the car, but I did not dare to ride them with a breeze. At least a 128-horsepower sixteen-claw and allows you to step slightly, but the suspension is too much to the energetic driving. Already at a speed of 70 km/h, the steering wheel, flavored relevant for off -road by a hydraulic wrap, does not allow to clearly control the wheels. Similar leaps for the hunter in the forest in search of game is the norm, but on the road the uninformativity of the Hunter steering wheel turns into a hassle. The first riddle of UAZ. Seeing that the rear seats are equipped with seat belts, I immediately decided to install a children's chair for the heir on them. It wasn't there. The belts themselves are in place, and it was not possible to detect the return part with the castle, no matter how he was looking for. Moreover, it was not even possible to find a place where they could be attached. Question: The rear belts - fiction, tribute to the GOSTs?

Hunter is not suitable for long trips, especially around the city: if the designers were able to cope with an excessive noise of bridges and the engine (you can talk during movement in the cabin), then the new front spring suspension has not yet been able to save the riders (especially the rear) of the regular) Curses. At the same time, the driver has to master the far from the most obedient gearbox. In addition, a slightly monstrous pedal node does not have at all to touch the handle of the CP once again. However, as practice has shown, and you can quickly get used to them. But no one will probably be able to get used to the specific UAZ ergonomics. If the machine is not intended for trips to secular raautes, this does not mean that it should be uncomfortable. To lock all the doors after the next, fifth or tenth, landing of the family can only from the inside. At the same time, perhaps the gutta -perch boy talked at least a meter of ninety can reach the treasured dogs from the driver's seat. When landing, the same story. But there are advantages: a small nasal child for nothing can open a window in life. Even the young lady spoiled by urban comfort, it will not be with the hand. It is better, it will become less smoking, since the ashtrays in the cabin is not provided. It is assumed that real ash hunters shake off to the floor, and the bulls are thrown out the window.
On Saturday evening, clouds began to thicken above the horizon. When they returned from the circus, Hunter was locking. A couple of times he jerked at speed and stalled, however, immediately the motor was started again. I wrote a problem for the fatigue of the car. Still, reinforce 40 kilometers in a day! The next day, Sunday, the picture was aggravated. UAZ categorically refused to go, even after refueling fuel. And oh horror! What colleagues warned about in chorus. He finally got up on the hill. The opening of the hood showed that the generator belt jumped in everything else. And how can he not jump off when he is excellently lubricated (almost every oil seal on the engine sweats abundantly with engine oil).
I will not describe the two -day (!) Epic replacement of the generator belt in the nearest car service. This is a very intimate and still bleeding wound. The developers of the 409th engine, if they did not go from in those days from the ongoing hiccups, will probably be offended and will accuse the artisans of incompetence (which is not at all). But one way or another, and on Monday evening I left the workshop. Rather, I didn’t leave - exhausted locksmiths pushed me onto the track. The engine started, but refused to gain momentum and immediately stalled. The journalistic ingenuity helped. Without passing five kilometers after the last refueling, I again looked at the gas station. But he poured fuel not into the left tank (UAZs are equipped with two tanks), but to the right. It turned out that it is the main one, and when it is almost empty, the fuel ceases to enter the system. Gasoline coming from half a complete left tank was barely enough to maintain an idle. Hunter completely struck me with his last mystery. In the absence of a switching system from one tank to another fuel, a gravity shimmers into a meager, not sufficient volume for operating the engine. Maybe someone will explain why UAZ is an auxiliary tank? ..
