UAZ Hunter with a normal gearbox was a pipe dream for a long time. It was believed that high -quality checkpoints - exactly what he lacks. And so it happened: Hunter from the DYMOS checkpoint entered the sale, and we took two cars on the test at once-with the updated diesel ZMZ-514 and the well-known injector ZMZ-409.
 
Until recently, three types of gearboxes, including the notorious Arzamassian, were placed on classic UAZs. And all would be nothing, and their reliability, endurance and selectivity were not good. The UAZ-3163 Patriot series was equipped with a transmission consisting of a gearbox of the Korean company Dymos and the Ulyanovsk roar with a handout. The factory workers said that such a transmission, it is quite possible, would be put on Hunter instead of boring refusal and fuzzy work of Arzamas. And here's the news, but not one. The DYMOS box is actually installed on the UAZ-315149, it is joined with a modernized ZMZ-514.10 diesel. In addition, another transmission has appeared, produced by the Autodebell Service plant. In a word, with the advent of new lists of configuration, dealers have such a variety of UAZs that the eyes run up. Some are removed from the conveyor, but not everyone has been sold, others have only arrived, but they go, but so far in small batches ... Here you are lazy ledges on wide 1600-mm bridges, and an old man 31514 with gearbox beams and pole-knocked 421st motor. And now they already shine with the adventurine of the Hunter of a new series with Dymos boxes, and nearby, but green and with Arzamas. We took the two newest and beautiful ones, both with the Korean transmission, but one with a diesel engine, and the second with a gasoline engine, rather like a support car. It’s not that we were not at all interested in the option with a combination of ZMZ-409/DYMOS, it is simply that Patriot, running along and across, is also equipped with such an aggregate.
 
Gright and glutton
 
We will not describe cars that everyone knows. We will immediately move on to running tests and our comments. By the way, despite the fact that UAZ is more than an ordinary car for any corner of our homeland and the nearest foreign countries, the interest in Hunter is simply some kind of pathological. And having learned that under the hood diesel, and under the floor Dymos, people simply do not leave and do not let us go. They are all interested in: how it accelerates, and how many horses, and how much fuel consumes, and on the off -road how, in comparison with gasoline ... our winter and diesel fuel were remembered, about the same expressions, then without any transition the question was asked about value. After the announcement of the amount, those who asked for a long time went to themselves, solving the eternal question: is it a lot or a little? Indeed, 298 thousand rubles per diesel and 270 for gasoline - is this a lot? And one could say, if UAZ had at least some kind of competitor. Used to Cherokee? Do not laugh me, but read the Second Hand section ... in a word, UAZ is invincible! Unfortunately, this is reflected in prices. Five years ago, Price began with $ 3,200 for the tugged 31512, now it costs 7600 and it cannot be found. Here is Hunter for the top ten - please.
 
However, we were distracted. With a beautiful raven, we leave the dealer’s gate and immediately fall into the city crowd, and a little later into the cork. That's where all the advantages of a painful diesel and a clearly working box! In addition, the first gear is very short, and the second allows you to accelerate to almost 80 km/h. And if necessary, you can throw the gas pedal and drag on idle even on the rise. By the way, the diesel option has a slightly larger gear ratio than gasoline. It is 4.625. It would be or rather to say that this is the main pair with the 409th engine is longer, since 4.625 have been put on UAZs from almost the eighties, and 4.11 - from the moment of the appearance of injection engines in order to save fuel. Of course, the gasoline Hunter accelerates much more dynamic, but the combination of the motor/transmission is far from the ideal. Say, with 40 km/h, the sound from under the hood seems to be signaling about the need to switch to the third gear, but no, early - you need to squeeze up to 50 km/and even then, under a loud roar, switch. Otherwise, the car continues to accelerate extremely reluctantly. In a word, in this case, dealing with a diesel engine is much more pleasant.
 
After the traffic jam, we jumped out to the operational scope of the Novorizhskoye Shosse. Since there were unequivocal numbers on the odometers of our cars and they were still far from completely running in, they did not drive them. Nevertheless, both 100-110 km/h both hold completely at ease. It’s noisy - yes, it walks in the strip - there is such, but the engine does not strain, there are enough brakes, and you can get used to the steering.

What can, and that there is no UAZ on off -road, probably everyone knows. We were interested in checking how better a car with a diesel engine that is better feeling on the bottom in comparison with a gasoline version. Especially if you take into account the difference in the transfer numbers of the main pairs. To do this, we climbed the coolest climbs and descended from the highest slopes, slowing down the engine. The difference is noticeable only when descending. Where gasoline rolls on the first, the diesel is needed a second, otherwise the wheels are inhibited more than the necessary. The differences are small on the rise. On the idle Hunter with the 514th engine, he could rise higher than with the 409th, but a small hijacking aligned their chances. At the same time, the gasoline engine made it possible to move a little softer, which is useful on a weak coating. But diesel could maintain even craving, despite the hillocks and potholes, maintaining a safe speed. At the same time, gasoline sometimes required additives with a gas pedal, otherwise he tried to stall.
 
And finally, another important point is fuel consumption. According to the WAZ -409 UAZ factory data, on average, it consumes 13.2 liters per 100 km, and diesel - 10.1. It turned out that in a mixed mode, grumbled drank diesel fuel for 300 rubles (17.1 liters) for the same mileage of 140 km, to which it took almost 500 rubles (28.5 liters). Otherwise, 12.2 and 19 liters per 100 km, respectively. Feel the difference!

The UAZ diesel is good. The domestic diesel is doubly good. It is cheaper, spare parts and components are more affordable, the service is easier to establish. This is ideally. Let's see how the case will develop with us. In the meantime, dealers have difficulties with warranty service and owners with spare parts. Say, suddenly and without any visible reason, the open fifth door broke the limiter. Naturally, it was not loosely closed, but it doesn’t matter ... It is important that, having traveled several large stores and calling several small ones, we never found a replacement limiter. A trifle, but unpleasant. Fortunately, the difficulties do not directly concern engines and boxes, objects of our acquaintance. Some of the most impatient buyers rolled on serial ZMZ-514 several thousand kilometers and, except on the recirculation valve, they do not sin for anything. The plant puts an enhanced block of the block on new diesel engines, an enhanced block and a thicker, three -layer laying of the head, the previous version of which suffered from programs on experimental series. After 10-15 thousand mileage, the consumption remains within 9-10 liters per 100 km of a calm ride, but in winter I would like to be warmer. By the way, we are happy to state that the past problems with overheating on Hunter with ZMZ-409 are not in sight. In half a day, floundering at the first or second low temperature, only a couple of times crawled a mark of 90 degrees. And the diesel was completely cold and calm, like Stirlitz, while I was shed inside later ... Without a hatch in a UAZ in the summer it is bad! Very bad!
 
TO BE OR NOT TO BE?
 
Buy Hunter or not? Of course, I really like him. A straight and honest car, large and iron, uncompromising. With a diesel, with a diesel engine and a normal box - just super. Now it would be to change the hand -to -shock box, otherwise it is scooping, yes, apparently, the teeth are too oblique - they will make noise. But I still want to! But there will be little to buy. Change the wheels, throw the bumpers, put the shnorkel, locks, stainless steel tank. It is worth buying such a car, and she herself will drag you off -road. When choosing UAZ, you need to be absolutely firmly sure of what you are doing and why. If you doubt, do not take better. Well, only as the fifth in the family ...
