Just at some point, he thought, distracted, relaxed, stopped pressing on the gas. And after a couple of minutes I caught myself thinking that I like how this Peugeot behaves on the road.PEUGEOT 407 SW smoothly rolls along a flat highway, and I enjoy the fact that practically nothing is required of me. You only need to direct it in the right direction. To do this is pleasant - the steering wheel is light, but not empty, comfortable, but with a sufficient and understandable reactive effort. And the car at an average speed responds to my requests as I want. A clear reaction follows the deviation of the steering wheel. The brakes show themselves well - and they delight with a transparent drive, and they provide intensive slowdown, and ABS if it wakes up, it reminds of itself only with a quiet chatter.
Even a comfortable (main) automatic mode began to seem not so thoughtful. The delays, of course, have not disappeared anywhere, but they do not annoy and do not interfere with the continuation in the selected rhythm.
And I continue. It is convenient to sit - the chair has a good shape and it was possible to configure it without problems. Tight (or softness?) - exactly on the verge between comprehensive and comfort. I also adjusted the steering wheel optimally and now I keep my hands on science on its unusual, flattened almost to a rectangular cross -section. On a smooth gray hub, a chrome profile of the corporate king of animals shines - as an expensive decoration in the right place. This is probably the most French, sensual detail of the interior. Everything else is made with an emphasis rather on functionality. Although in the absence of style you can’t blame the salon. It is pleasant to the eye, in addition, the plastic of the finish is good to the touch.
Designers seemed to decide to catch up with the ergonomics of the Germans - recognized masters in this area, but at the same time maintain individuality. In many ways they succeeded. The buttons are logical in liability zones. But their number sometimes causes confusion - so, the CD -reiver control unit seems to be overloaded. It’s good that there is a convenient remote control under the wheel.
If their shape and location allows you to navigate in the keys during the day, then there is complete confusion at night-the console shines with dozens of identical lights, only red and blue arrows of separate climate control are unambiguously identified.
All information is displayed on a small display with red lighting. Its graphics are simple, but made with love - a touching icon of the receiver, for example, causes a smile. In addition to the settings of the audio system, the data of the route computer (and at the same time on the display in the device combination) are displayed here. Their white scales revive the shield, but the readability of the devices is worse. In the dark, the backlight helps out, everything is much more informative with it.
The speedometer arrow froze at 90 km/h - the digitization is traditionally odd. In the salon, quietly, one could talk quietly with someone, but in the car except me no one. And there would be enough space for many - from the inside 407 SW seems very large due to the far -out front racks, as well as a panoramic glass roof and space behind the rear seat. And now the imagination draws an idyllic picture: the children from the rear sofa pokes his fingers up and jerks the parents sitting in front, and Senbernar's muzzle sticks out of the huge trunk.
I even stopped and moved back to check whether it will be conveniently here with particularly valuable riders? Conveniently, the sofa is wide, there is an armrest with cup holders and boxing. But the knees are not as many as we would like. It happens and more spacious. And the trunk during the examination was not so impressive - you will not receive an outstanding volume with a low ceiling and littered with racks. I liked that the opening of the back door goes far onto the roof and that the glass can be lifted separately. And yet, there is not enough space for Senbernar ... Maybe Collie?
Stop. What collie? Where does the kids come from? He relaxed a little, and Peugeot immediately began to configure me to his family wave. It is urgent to shake it. This is just the information-item between the devices suggests that it is time to once again enrich the gasoline kings.
Beautiful ..., - the neighbor nods towards my car in turn. Yes, - I agree. And I myself look at the 407th and I think that the beautiful is not a completely accurate definition. Unusual. The appearance atypical for this class is not classical beauty, but a bright personality. In the variant of the station wagon, the share of futurism was added to the acquaintance. The back seems to me large, almost dimensionless, resembling the stellar cruiser's stern. Effective. True, from the inside, the pile of wide racks looks heavy. And the view from the back is spoiled by a small detail - unsophisticated fog lights of rectangular shape. They definitely got here by mistake.
Light frost refreshed - there was no trace of relaxation. I jump on the seat. The lever of the machine in the drive, gas - on the floor and ... Peugeot is slowly touching, as if there is no almost 160 forces under the hood. Yes, the car is heavy - a sedan went around 55 kg. But the main reason for the joyless start is a 4 -speed automatic. At a time when most automatic transmission offers the driver at least five gears, this one is limited to two overclocking, the third straight and fourth economical. As a result, the first one is nullified by the effort of the motor when starting, while when accelerated from the course, he shows good elasticity and does not seem to intensify. Me too. Pause of switching begins to annoy me again, and I press the S button near the selector. The accelerator drive immediately became more sensitive, the delays were reduced, and the current gear is almost to cut off, despite my zealous provocations in the form of gas discharge. And again I am surprised how the programs are stretched - most of the standard city route can be driven on one growling second.
But the manual mode was even more surprised - it not only allows himself to independently choose programs, but often even ignores my teams. S is the best of the proposed. The speed of movement increased markedly, I, without embarrassment, twist the motor, observing its character. It is even, but the maximum of the moment reached at 3900 rpm is felt - after this mark, acceleration will go more lively.
When the speedometer arrow was picked up to 130 km/h, the behavior of Peugeot changed in a strange way - uncertainty appeared. Zero is well felt on the steering wheel, but the car swims on its own in the dynamic corridor, reacting to the rut, irregularities and changes in traction. You have to constantly steal. Most likely, the winter tires are to blame, one way or another, to travel on the highway faster than 170 km/h was simply uncomfortable.
On the road, the quality of the highway, the unforgivable sensitivity of the suspension to large and not very flaws of coating becomes worse than the highway. When they pass, the steering wheel, and sometimes the body in a harsh form, inform about the fluctuations of unsprossed masses. Here the rear suspension stands out - both shaking and sound. And something echoes her in the bowels of the trunk. Did the designers not be seen? Or did the suspension have already visited the views?
At the same time, in the standard modes, the nature of the controllability liked - 407 SW passes confidently, tastefully, helping himself with a hersing rear multi -link. But this is not enough for me, I provoke again, squeezing the car, looking for the line for which it will save. Pretty soon the rear wheels fall into a sharp skid, but after a moment the outer of them grasps the pseudo -shut -off stabilization system, and it all starts first.
After some time, I leave the 407th alone. The circumstances of the test make you think. PEUGEOT 407 SW is endowed with many advantages, he will like the rear passengers, like a phlegmatic drivers, will like the senior family person who has a reason to buy a large family station wagon. And I am still entrusted with automatic boxes, large trunks and square foglights. Maybe we just met early?
Under such thoughts, I quietly lower the speed and after a couple of minutes I catch myself on the fact that I begin to like this peugeot ...

The PEUGEOT 407 SW station wagon is offered by dealers with four engines: 1.8 liters (116 hp), 2.0 l (136 hp), 2.2 l (158 hp), 2.9 L (211 hp). The choice of transmission for the most modest motor is limited by 5-speed mechanics. For a 2-liter, a 4-speed automatic is also provided. The 2.2-liter version can be either with the same automatic and with a 6-speed manual transmission. In a couple to the 2.9-liter motor, only a 6-speed automatic transmission is offered.
Set of configurations - simple SR confort and ST confort, richer ST Sport and top SV Executive. Each equipment changes slightly depending on the engine.
The standard equipment of the test 407 SW (2.2 l, the machine) includes ESP, electric windows, tire pressure sensor, fog lights, automatic lamps, rain sensor, automatic close light, glass roof, glass tinting, two -zone Climate Control, CD-resort with MP3, 17-inch wheels from aluminum alloy.
