Lanos was designed in cooperation with a number of authoritative German and English engineering companies in Daewoo's research and development center in Woking. The development involved the following companies: Rochester Products Division (Engine), Delco Electronics (Brakes, including ABS), GM PowerTrain Europe (Automatic Transmission), ItalDesign (Body, Structural Analysis, Electrical Equipment, Making Primary Sample), Pars Passive Rückhaltesystem GmbH ( Airbag) and Porsche (concept card - diagnostics, structural analysis, suspension and components of the brake system, experimental production observation). The body design was developed by the famous Italian Italdesign Atelier under the guidance of Georgetto Judjaro. His design was chosen according to the results of the competition, in which 4 options for the appearance of the car participated.
First, Daewoo Lanos was released only in Korea. But already in the same 1997, Lanos began to gather in Poland at the FSO factory.
Since 2000, the full-scale production of Daewoo Lanos began in Poland, and in 2001 kits for the assembly of this model in Ukraine began to come from the FSO plant.
Since 2004, LANOS production has been completely discontinued in the version with a 3-door body. Since the end of 2008, the production of the LANOS model in Poland has been discontinued, but the sales of the Polish assembly released in Bochum (Germany) are still on sale. Since September 2008, Lanos has become a purely Ukrainian car, in all production signs of localization. A stamping, welding, painting of the body, assembling cars, and for models with 1.3 and 1.4 liters and production of the MEMZ power unit. Since 2008, the car is sold in various countries under various brands: Daewoo, ZAZ, Chevrolet. In the same year, the Zaporizhia Automobile Plant began supplying Lanos machines to Egypt for large-sized assembly at the local GM Egypt plant.
