Test drive Volvo C30 2006 - 2009 hatchback

European values, test drive Volvo C30 T5

Having changed the song, the same can be said about the Volvo C30 T5. This is not an ordinary charged hatchback feeding on unhealthy gasoline. It should not be perceived at all as a hot hatch. A powerful motor, low suspension and low -profile rubber are only a means designed to increase the active safety of this car.
Volvo C30 T5 - a three -door Swedish hatchback with a five -cylinder turbo engine with a capacity of 220 hp. But in this case, the mood is created not by a powerful engine, but by the original appearance and no less pleasant interior.
If the muzzle C30 is not much different from the S40 nozzle, then in all other details C30 a large original! A powerful lateral line passing into the rear wings is shaped, as if in order to protect the deck when mooring. And in general, C30 produces a safe car. Not without reason, according to the results of crash tests, EURONCAP Volvo C30 earned the maximum five stars.
The back of the C30 is completely falling under the definition of contemporary art. Someone may not like her, delight someone. But no one will argue that against the background of monotonous modern feed vehicles, Volvo gives an impression! In addition to the memorable design, it can be noted that the test car was distinguished by 18-inch cast discs and an aerodynamic body kit.
What was the most negatively affected by the design? - On the trunk.
The loading height is large, the opening is small, and the dimensions are very modest. Even folding the rear seats, there is little space, the bicycle will definitely not fit here. Is it possible for utility tasks in the family of the owner (or owner) C30 will be the second car of the XC70 station wagon or XC90 crossover?
The C30 doors are massive and heavy, as if it were not a hatchback, but a large premium sedan. You sit in a chair, slam the door and silence of sound insulation in Volvo is excellent! A light leather interior helps to pull away from gray dank weather.
It is a pity that cars with LCD display on the central console are not supplied to Russia. Otherwise, one could relax from time to time: getting into the car and watch your favorite films, especially Dolby, the Dynaudio audio system copes with this task.
As expected from Volvo, which seeks to comply with premium standrates in everything, the interior is finished with high-quality, pleasant materials to the touch. The gaps are minimal, all the parts are processed with great attention, and the metal plate from which the gearbox lever grows, in addition to everything is decorated with engraving. An alternative option is a wood veneer that looks even warmer. In the cabin, nothing reminds that one drive wheel here has 110 hp on one drive wheel.
The engine is launched instead of the key. By the way, unlike many button starters that need to be held, until the engine does not work, it is enough to transfer it to the Start mode and let it go.
We set up mirrors, which, unfortunately, do not indulge in the review. The narrow rear window overlaps the appearance of the intra -tiring mirror, and the side are located too low. When maneuvering reversing, the rear racks also eat quite a lot of space, well at least parking sensors are provided. VOLVO was one of the first to introduce the BLIS system, the task of which to protect the driver from a collision with an object in the dead zone. In practice, it looks as follows in the lateral mirrors two miniature radars scanning the dead zone. In the event of an object appears in this zone, a warning LED lights up. This option is very useful on the highway, however, in the Drunk Moscow mode, Blis now and then signals dangerous maneuvers.
C30 devices are read perfectly. The same size speedometer and tachometer, unobtrusive greenish backlight is concise, but boring.
The transfers of the mechanical six -speed box are turned on clearly, the lever is small, but with active acceleration, the first is too short, especially when wet asphalt is under the wheels. Dynamic acceleration does not work, the wheels break into the slip, forcing to switch to increased gears earlier than the peak of torque. The clutch is also enough too late, with such a box and a powerful engine, I would like the pedal shorter.
The C30 engine is happy to meet cold and raw weather, which is best suited for the turbo engine. The fact is that the density of raw air is higher, and more oxygen are sucked into the light five -cylinder engine. Of course, at the same time, fuel consumption is also growing - with a dynamic urban ride, a consumption of 16 liters. 100 km. normal phenomenon.
The suspension was somewhat disappointed. As I already mentioned above, C30 is not a weekend sports car and sitting down in a respectable hard shaking salon, you somehow do not expect. Nevertheless, when passing joints and tram tracks, the suspension practices them quite noisily. Perhaps the fault of this is worn out shock absorbers. The mileage of the test machine was just such that the racks could already get tired, especially if we recall that the cars often sat auto -journalists who were testing cars in maximum modes.
I managed to check the C30 not only in urban mode, but also on dry asphalt of the Khodynsky airfield.
With the stabilization system disconnected, Volvo handling was very safe and understandable in front -wheel drive. If the clutched capabilities of the tires are exceeded, the front wheels begin to slide, straightening the trajectory. You can deal with this in two ways: either waiting for the demolition of the front axle, drop the speed, or set the wheels directly, restoring the clutch and then stretch with gas. At the same time, you should try not to overdo it with the traction, because the slip will provoke demolition again.
AT it turned out to be a very difficult task on the asphalt of the Khodynsky field. Even with provocative work by a handbrake, the heated rear wheels were very tenacious for asphalt. Safe and perfectly balanced chassis!
There are no special questions to the brakes on dry asphalt, but on the wet road, ABS worked very early. Most likely, extremely worn back tires were to blame for this. Because of them, aquaplaning also occurred at a small 80-90 km/h.
How do I see the owner of the Volvo C30 T5 worth $ 48,200? This is a modern business woman or a young man who appreciates comfort and safety, while wanting to be in the first. Otherwise, I cannot explain the acquisition of T5.
By adding several thousand dollars you can take an all -wheel drive German, and faster Japanese are much cheaper.
Another thing is ordinary C30. Prices for it with a 1.6l engine. (100 hp) begin with $ 22,900. Raising the cost, with the addition of cubes up to two liters, or a 2.4 liter option looks more attractive.
And yet, no matter how good the manual transmission is, for Volvo I would choose an automatic machine, and the color is brighter. Black is still the lot of representative sedans.
