Toyota IQ test drive since 2008 hatchback

Toyota IQ Overview in GO Sports Modification

The line of modifications IQ appeared a new representative of the sports version called GO. This IQ is presented in two configurations: with a variator and mechanical gearbox. In the article I will try to figure out what their main differences.

Revival racing version?
Recently, in the world of Toyota cars, more interesting is happening. Noah / voxy received sports equipment G Sports, FJ Cruiser, originally aimed solely on exports, appeared in the Japanese market, and in the summer of last 2010, the company presented a new modification of Toyota IQ called GO.

Go is an IQ sports version, equipped with appropriate components. The front bumper with the fog lights installed on it completely changes the face of the car. Under the rear bumper, a diffuser is located. In general, the model acquired a more courageous and chunky look. The drum brakes of the base model were replaced by more advanced disk.

Last fall, the model range of IQ with a small delay was replenished with another member: 130g MT GO with a manual transmission. Sports IQ with mechanics reminded me of a racing modification of IQ GRMN, who was released at one time limited edition of 100 cars and sold out during the first week.

I somehow happened to drive a couple of circles on the race track on IQ GRMN to confess, I did not expect such power and speed from such a miniature car. Interestingly, can the new 130g MT Go in their characteristics at least a little closer to your racing fellow?

Not for everyday ride
For a start, I decided to experience a modification with a variator, which is becoming more popular among users than a model with a 6-speed mechanic. 1,3-liter motor power 94 hp More than enough for a car of such sizes. If you press the gas pedal until it stops, the engine begins to smoothly gain momentum, while the variator without sharp shocks and shock changes the gear ratio. The machine in the blink of an eye develops the maximum speed.

In addition to the powerful engine, the model is also equipped with a sports suspension. While driving on a smooth and smooth surface behind the wheel of this car, you feel quite comfortable, but in practice, such ideal roads are quite rare. Road covering in the city, as a rule, completely dressed up with piping and other irregularities, so for everyday use, the new IQ will probably be harsh. The suspension transmits all the information about the quality of the road to the cabin, and if this is not so strong at the driver's seat, the side passenger will experience terrible discomfort. It is not surprising that passengers in IQ practically do not catch.

Each irregularity on the road is given to a small impetus. The car literally jumps on every batch, which cannot but affect the overall level of driving. This deficiency reminded me of Honda Civic Type R.

6-speed mechanics
I also had the opportunity to experience a modification with a 6-speed mechanical gearbox. The suspension of this model is the same tough as in the basic version, but the impressions of the trip here are completely different. If there is a comparison with a modification equipped with a variator, IQ with mechanics looks more distinctive and in its own way charming, thanks to which she can forgive all the flaws.

The car perfectly behaves on a winding road. In the machines, the longitudinal pitch is practically not felt, but here I sat almost like a swing, as the wheelbase is only 2 meters, and the rear wheel is located almost immediately behind the driver. Such oscillations are stronger in the version with mechanics, where all directions of the driver are performed clearer than in the model with a variator.

At first I was worried that with such hesitation of the slightest push, it can be enough to bring the car from equilibrium. But throughout the way the car was spent surprisingly stable. Rear stabilizers work flawlessly, speeds switches smoothly, please and hard brake pedal. If you decide to buy a sports IQ, the version with a 6-speed mechanic is my personal recommendation.
