At the start, there was a third prius, on the eve of the New Year holidays, the new Land Cruiser Prado, and between them one of the loudest European premieres of the Toddler IQ.It is the baby, and nothing else. Outwardly, this Toyota resembles a cube: its width and height is almost equal, moreover, they only twice the length, which, in turn, does not reach up to three meters. Add here traditionally sloping hood and get the car almost the same on all sides. Almost Smart. True, really IQ for the entire half-meter is longer than the most popular in the old world of the compact, and in the width a little less much more overall Honda Jazz. And this is perhaps its main advantage over a formidable competitor. That up to style, then this car can be called fun. The weak floor, which, in fact, should become the main consumer of the product, will certainly appreciate and massive optics, and smooth windows of glazing ... At the same time, the novice looks somewhat brutal and in something even modern main rivals.
And larger. However, given the presence of four nominal seats, it is quite explained. However, it is not worth deducting: the IQ salon is hardly more luggage compartment of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon. The desire of the Japanese to make a compact quadruple, of course, commendable, but, settling even a person of medium height behind the wheel, the owner of a priori will refuse fourth seats. He will not fit the driver's seat, this is a fact. There, even the child will not put, not to mention adult. The only way out to store the legs of the back of the rear left armchair at the neighbor, but convenient placement according to the formula 3 + 1 you will not call anyway. Yes, and to security, the claims will arise, even despite the presence (as standard) of the occipital cushion for the inhabitants of the second row. In general, the rear sofa IQ can be transformed with a light heart.
On ordinary days, when IQ transports one, the maximum of two people, it is easier to use it as a natural addition to the trunk. Then the car will fit not only a portfolio with documents, but also a pair of packages from the hypermarket. In the denomination, the entire useful space of the freight compartment is almost completely occupied by a standard set of a motorist, the presence of which we remember, prescribed by road rules, and even if not regulated, but an equally mandatory brush with a scraper. By the way, passengerism is not the main problem of this car, much more relevant difficulty with the placement of related objects and ergonomics.
Alas, the standard glove box here fell in the fight for the free space for the legs of the front sediment (whether it is in place, the rear sofa could not be done at all). The corresponding functions are placed on the plaid folder attached to the front panel by means of a pair of lipukets and four buttons. Terribly uncomfortable, it is necessary to admit, the thing, especially when you try to establish it in a legal place. In addition, its geometry allows you to place in depths only a pair of naked CDs and several sheets of paper A4 paper, which, however, have to be folded in half.
The instrument panel is also a compromise solution. In essence, the speedometer scale, tachometer and the minimum set of controls The Japanese placed on half of its standard area. Everything else on a small monochrome display. In principle, the driver receives the required minimum of information, but the tidy still seems too small. In European specifications, there is also a capable navigation picture of the multimedia block, we also have a central part of the cockpit crumpled a certain semblance of an information display. However, it could not be done at all, replacing a pair of appropriate control lamps on the instrument panel.
And in the IQ, the steering column is adjusted only by vertical, the driver's seat in this plane is not shifted at all. So to customize the driver's seat under the rounded seds will have to be exclusively due to the horizontal displacement and changes in the tilt of the back. In principle, the average driver of the presented ranges is enough, but people above average growth, alas, will feel a certain discomfort. That's why you do not present complaints, so it is for registration. Formally the interior is as brutalen as the exterior, but the complex parts are even smaller here. However, the sake of fairness should be noted that the Japanese tried to revive the picture to the measure of their strength, building a pair of instrumental overlays, which, in essence, are the instrument panel and the center console. The IQ is assembled on the normal (by class standards), it seems quite decent and plastic, although in the same Auris it would not look too presentable.
By the way, a comparison with Auris is also relevant here and because under the hood of the test IQ, a 1.33-liter gasoline motor was installed for the medium-sized hatchback. True, if the buyers of Auris offer it exclusively with 5-speed mechanics, then in our case a clinoremable variator worked in a pair. By the way, this is the only IQ option for our country, a version with simpler liter units, and even more so with 1.4-liter turbodiesels, the Japanese did not decide to visit us. Although what are we talking about? How can you judge what is not? IQ does not know how to accelerate. According to the passport, the second hundred car with the top engine, which is on a second! It is buzzing loud and intrusive, fuel consumes as an aggregate in the C-class machine, but absolutely not going. We have overclocked until hundreds of 15 seconds, no less. In general, we will not rule this Toyota future, it is not foreseen. Everything ultimately rests on the financial component: IQ almost the only one in our market car, which is cheaper in Europe. In Germany, a top car similar to ours is estimated at 16,800 euros (Basic 12,900 euros). At the current rate, this is a little more than 730,000 rubles, for us the price tag is one of 777,777 rubles, and no less than a penny. It seems that the sad experience with the first generation of Yaris managers Toyota has not taught anything.
