Subaru Impreza test drive since 2007 sedan

Test of the new Subaru Impreza XV crossover

Definitely, the fashion for crossovers reached its climax. On the year we will get acquainted with the next confirmation of this. Imagine that five years ago someone would tell you that Subaru will stop selling civil Impreza in Russia (leaving only WRX and STI), and in return will offer its pseudo-road version. Would you believe?

Today, how many eyes are not three, and the fact remains. The newly-mowed crossover with a female name seems to be so profitable, which is so profitable that the most budget versions with 1.5 and 2-liter engine are removed from the line (as far as it is not specified).

At the same time, a rather immodest starting price tag is announced for the new product: without a pussy one hundred rubles, exactly a million. How can you not remember the story with Legacy GT we tested in the spring? How many new Subaru Legacy have seen since then?

The creators justify the price with the presence of a branded all -wheel drive, a two -liter engine (many competitors with such an engine at a price nearby) and a wealthy configuration. And the company also plans to sell 200-300 XV monthly. By the way, the abbreviation is deciphered as follows: X Cross and V Vehicle.

The first and main thing that was subjected to the most stringent review of the suspension. The clearance is increased by 30 mm and now is 185mm. The rods of reptile stabilizers added each millimeter. In the front suspension of the MacPherson, springs became tougher by already 32%, and the damping force of shock absorbers was increased in parallel.

By the way, in the racks both in front and behind are now there are not ordinary toastal valves, but with a progressive characteristic. They change the algorithm of work depending on the frequency of movement and the length of the stem, which positively affects the adhesion of tires with a bad road. In the rear suspension, the springs became 16 percent tougher. And the last measure in suspension is an increase in the rigidity of the bushing bushing bushes.

It can be summarized that compared to the usual two -liter Impreza, the XV suspension should be tangibly tougher, despite the fact that the car itself has become higher. An interesting combination

Worked with the engine. A new plastic intake manifold is installed, which reduced weight and optimized the supply of fuel mixture. A new inlet camera appeared. It is more compact, plus it improves air supply. The form of inlet channels and combustion chambers also finalized. They also added a secondary air supply system so that the release warms up faster at a cold start. This is for ecology. For her, the revised catalytic neutralizers system. The machine satisfies Euro-4 standards.

But the boxes remained the same: this is a 5-speed mechanics and a 4-speed machine. The first with a lowering gear. XV can only be shod in 16-inch aluminum discs with a rubber dimension of 205/55.

For acquaintance, the Subaru representative office delivered us to Kaliningrad and the region. There we drove a test route from Svetlogorsk, through Zelenogradsk, to the Curonian Spit. The total length of the test drive is about 170 km, of which mine was half.

The first in the hands was the white Impreza XV in the richest SR configuration with five -speed mechanics, which is estimated by our representation of 1,094,000 rubles (the machine adds to a cost of 30,000 rubles). The key is modest, you can only dream about starting from the button and the attached amenities of the chip key.

But before you sit inside, you need to evaluate the design! Today he can play a decisive role in the sales of the car. Well, in the case of Impreza XV, everything is done well, and there is nothing to find fault. The machine received plastic expanders of arches and thresholds, roof rails, a puppet overlap on the fifth door (which slightly changed the perception of the rear part). It is also impossible not to note the new false radiator lattice, the view of which refers to the Subaru crossovers. To the place and new wheels. As a result, Impreza was quite transformed, and I personally like in the guise of a crossover. The image turned out to be whole, nothing is falling out of it. The car is good from any angle. Harmony is.

And what's inside? The salon remained almost unchanged. Unless at sports chairs (and such are placed on all XV without exception), brown inserts characteristic only for this model appeared. Naturally, the trunk and space in the second row remained exactly the same.

Under the hood, an old acquaintance opposite. From the sound of his work and characteristic vibrations, it becomes pleasant in the soul. I quickly adjust the chair and steering wheel for myself (there were enough adjustments), noting that all adjustments are mechanical.

If the car looks like a high crossover from the side, then there is no such sensation inside. You sit like in an ordinary passenger car, except a little higher. The long gearbox lever lies in the hand, the moves are big, but the programs are turned on quite clearly.

With a mechanical gearbox, the machine accelerates cheerfully. In urban conditions, you can nimble, the engine not only spins well, but also gives out the entire torque from 3,200 rpm. There were few long straight lines on our route, but in the conditions that were, I managed to easily gain about 180 km/h, and they did not cause overtaking problems. The gear rates in the box are selected optimally.

Here I must immediately say about the automatic version on which I swept on the way back. The machine, as already mentioned, is 4-speed. It not only worsens the dynamics, but also interferes with realizing the capabilities of the motor. Stretched gear rates are turned into inconvenience during overtaking. For example, in second gear, the car accelerates to 120 km/h. And if you need to sharply accelerate from 122 km/h, then this coincides with the beginning of the third transmission and the corresponding sluggish acceleration.

So in the dispute of the boxes in this case the cheaper version wins. With her, Impreza XV is faster and more adequate, plus there is the opportunity to turn on a lowering gear on a bad road or when towing something. Well, to those who are in no hurry and prefers not to meddle on off -road, they should look at the machine.

Another nuance is different for the implementation of the all -wheel drive system on machines with automatic and mechanics. In the latter case, Wyskoft works, which initially divides the moment equally, and then focuses on its sensations, without any supervision of electronics. In the second case, the electronic brain is involved. He is engaged, literally, by the active distribution of torque. Here, by default, only 5 percent of traction goes back. I think the fundamental difference is clear. The option with mechanics is simpler, but also focused on the driver.

The XV suspension was tuned and drove under the supervision of Mr. Mori, who previously answered the impests with WRX and STI navigation for running qualities. Under his leadership, they put on his feet and version XV. Yes, even as they set. She got up and ran right away.

Impreza XV is going well. Immediately establish a complete understanding between the machine and the driver. The suspensions of almost all Subaru are generally very suitable for our roads, they are usually hard, but not to the extreme. Rather, elastic. And very energy -intensive. The suspension XV is what the doctor prescribed for half-wable roads and the killed areas of the Russian Mother.

There are a lot of bad tracks in the Kaliningrad region. There is all a deep track, waves, pits, potholes, hatches. Everywhere the car goes without breakdown, swallows everything, twists, hides it, well, you just wonder how it succeeds. At the same time, blows are practically not transmitted to the steering wheel (only in a stress, if under the wheels a really broken road).

Despite the fact that the suspension cannot be called stiff, it holds the road perfectly and provides XV minimal rolls. The steering wheel with good feedback (eh, they would have made it a little shorter). The brakes are grabbed, and slowing down is dosed by the pedal only at the very beginning, further in line, effort.

At the same time, it cannot be said that Impreza XV is inherent in some pronounced sports. She is, but she is not so much. The case in another proposed set of running qualities is well balanced, the car is understandable, its reactions are predicted. And therefore, you can enjoy moving quickly on it. Subaru genes are in place. However, under such a chassis and the motor asks more powerful. The company should think about the release of a turbocharged version. I think there are people who want to buy. True, for what price?

Unfortunately, there was no serious off -road on our way. There were rural and forest soil roads, there was a section of gravel. All this Impreza overcame it playfully at a good move. The suspension for all the time the test has never broken down even at those moments when I, being a passenger, squeezed at the sight of another obstacle.

The stabilization system is not completely turned off here. In the gravel section, I deactivated ESP and tried to put the car in the ski. Until a certain point, it developed, but then the system agitated and stopped sliding.

Impreza has a good acoustic comfort, and in the top version there is also a solid audio system with 10 speakers, a cd changer and a completely decent sound. In all other moments, whether ergonomics, planting and visibility or oak plastic everywhere in the cabin, then the car completely copies the usual hatch. However, visibility is still a little worse due to the above-mentioned lining the sple-back.

It turns out that everything is fine with the novelty from Subaru. She is pretty and rides well. It justifies the proud name of the crossover in that it expands the capabilities of the sitting at the wheel, gives a great degree of freedom. It also provides a bonus in the form of decent controllability. In appearance, everything is fine, but two things cannot be left aside. The first is that we were deprived of ordinary improvisation. Well, the second you need to get used to the price. As a result, some evil joke would not play with this machine.
