With Peugeot 508, such a focus will not pass. The typical Frenchness does not smell here. Soft noble plastic and black patented central console with chrome buttons will not give in to the best German analogues. Visual, full-color and, finally, a Russified Board Computer menu, perhaps, will give the heading to Japanese classmates. The same things as the lengthening pillow of the front armchair with a built-in massager or 4-zone climate, more recently, only premium brands were entitled.

The attraction of unheard of generosity has a simple explanation. After all, the segment of indispensable sedans in Europe has recently been compressed like shagren skin. That is why every democratic debutant of the D-class, in order to attract the attention of a legible public, has to, figuratively speaking, jump out of his pants.

The jump is obvious in design. After all, the 508th first serial model of Peugeot, made in a radically new style. And the first photographs of the serial 508th, then, to put it mildly, not impressions. Seeing the car alive, I didn’t fall in love, but began to treat her with a great understanding.

The salon deserves only admiration. All the little things that were annoyed in the past Peugeot are now squeezed from the light, like cockroaches from Moscow apartments. It is pleasant that the multi -stage heating of the seats is in the visible zone and right at the hand of the driver. A multifunctional steering wheel with music management buttons is much more convenient for a joystick located behind the steering wheel. The climate block looks simple, but by no means cheap. And even such important little things, like a pleasant plastic of steering wheel switches, this time did not slip away from the attention of the French. They can, if they want!

Cons discover themselves painfully and reluctantly. Suppose, the steering wheel gearboxes by car with the automatic transmission do not spin along with the steering wheel, perhaps in certain situations, this may be a disadvantage. Yes, and there is still no room for a mobile phone. Apparently, so the French wean the driver from a bad habit of chatting at the wheel. The 156 -horsepower engine, I am not afraid of a much epithet, is magnificent. With a pen or with an automaton, in the city or on the 1.6 Thp highway, it is always good and everywhere. Due to the almost diesel torque, available in a wide range of revolutions, the maximum 240 nm is smeared from 2000 to 4250 min-1 the character of the motor is pleased with increased elasticity. The 508th easily draws out where the mind is required to switch to lowered, and in addition, it is impressive by the lack of failures. True, it is also not taking the soul, but a smooth and confident set of speed is quite temperamental 8.6 s to hundreds per manual manual transmission. Yes, and with a 6-speed AISIN automatic, the 508th seemed quite a convincing alternative to a slightly faster, but less reliable DSG, which is placed on Passat and Mondeo.

Conducted controllability: a very comfortable suspension, a successfully configured steering wheel. On close to the perfect quality of the roads of Spanish Alikant, Peugeot seemed extremely collected and businesslike. He is not embarrassed by 200 km/h, and the rolls are restrained and not frightening in corners. Even on 18 -inch tires, the car mildly passes the joints, and the suspension is not prone to break. Only in a small section of broken asphalt did the low profile of rubber make itself felt. But in any case, you can’t call the uncomfortable smoothness.

I will not hide, the 508th made a strong impression. For the first time in many years, Peugeot had a sedan with a capital letter: the new 508th maximum competent machine, which absolutely had nothing to blush for.

Diesel offensive
In Europe, the main rate is made on diesel engines. Four options are proposed, from the base 1.6 HDI (112 hp) of the top 2.2, issuing 204 hp. The 112-horsepower motor can be equipped with a start-stop system, which automatically dramatizes the dvagtel when stopping and instantly starts it, you only need to remove the leg from the brake. The top motor can boast of a special front suspension. Our opinion
Peugeot 508 is certainly the best French car of the middle class over the past 15 years. Moreover, a beginner is in no matter what is not inferior to its fundamental competitors Passat, Mondeo and Avensis. With a competent price tag, the Frenchman can make them serious competition. The main thing is not to make a mistake with the price!
