Lotus Evora against Nissan GT-R

The price of 58,000 for the Lotus Evora launched in production can very much shake the reputation, albeit not the most likely of his rival, which, however, cannot be ignored: Nissan GT-R.

The calculated brutality Nissan GT-R always stays with you. Absolute concentration with which he absorbs meters of the road, his focus on achieving maximum speed, aggressiveness. He is like nothing else and he does not look like Lotus Evora.

But this was clear from the very beginning. One of them is a Japanese supercar for trillion yen, the result of careful many years of research. The second is from Norfolk. One virtuoso combines mechanics with electronics, its turbines are controlled by a processor, it has a double clutch and a drive into all four wheels. The other has a v6 hood. From Toyota.

Can Lotus hope for a positive outcome of the competition in this situation? He has not a single turbine, 200 horses, a monotive and two practical rear seats (in the case of Evora 2+2 = 2.5), these are two opposites. Nevertheless, compare their insurmountable temptation.

The fact that it is compared with GTR is to blame Lotus. The decision to make the cost of the basic configuration of Evora 5 thousand higher than expected, and to announce that the first 200 copies will be sold for 58,460, this is very ambitious. The GT-R Black Edition test in the maximum configuration is 1,500 cheaper, this is a recognized car of the year, and so coincided, the first officially imported GT-R in the United Kingdom, which we had to drive. They are also positioned in different ways. A hero car in a foreign country, Nissan stands like a disclosed Porsche 911 Turbo (rather as a younger Veyron, according to Johnny Bi); Lotus is a sporting car friendly to the environment with a consumption of 8.7 liters per 100 km.

Nissan is unlikely to demonstrate a similar fuel consumption. In truth, during a trip to Scotland, he tried very hard not to go beyond 10 liters, although the main reason for this was my inability to confront the urge to press the accelerator pedal and feel its indescribable power every time the movement on the M6 highway made it possible to do this. This is the first thing I noted with GT-R: the ability to accelerate, very quickly, which cannot be resisted. I don’t think that ever before I came across a car that can so easily, confidently and rapidly gaining speed. It seems to be realized that you are going fast, but how fast ... you only understand when you look at the speedometer here and it turns out that the car is traveling 30 km/h faster than you thought, and the leg from the gas immediately jumps to the brake.

Having reached the North Shottland Highlands, I decided to ride on the eastern part of Loch Lomond on the road called the ducal passage. For what reason this duke decided to go along such a narrow and uneven road, it will forever remain a mystery to me, but it is perfect to test GT-R's abilities. He turned out to be too big for this road, he was crowded, he could not breathe in full chest and stretch his legs, but at the same time he coped with the task, and, without spending a single excess calorie on it, not making a single unnecessary movement all thanks impeccable control over the movement of the body and act, albeit heavy, but perfectly controlled. It was a magnificent, cruel and thorough cut of the road in the best possible way.

It was warming up. Today, GT-R made minced meat from three rivals in our main test. When you drive this car, you feel like a cat playing with a bunch of mice, you let them run a little, and then you return the movement to you alone. Nevertheless, the speed is not all, and this gave a reason to blame Nissan that GT-R is rather incredibly effective than fascinating. Although no, everything is not so beautiful in both parameters.

Despite its outstanding abilities, GT-R does not dispute the laws of physics after Lotus it seems difficult to control it, you have to make more efforts. Evora streams, dances, slides and flows along these roads. GT-R steps hard. You can’t call him awkward, but he is unequivocally angry, growls and presses on you, he is always a dominant partner.

Evora is much calmer, he gladly dances to your chosen music, it is easier with it, because you do not need to accelerate to incredible speeds to feel the pleasure of driving this car. He has a cleaner steering, responsive suspension, he gives rich, tactile, voluminous feelings from driving. In addition, he has a more convenient landing of the driver, and his interior is bolder and more interesting.

In Nissan, you feel more confident, however, mainly due to the fact that it constantly reminds of its own superiority, although the front -line layout and its characteristic natural balance make the machine more obediently at the exit from the turn, when you dummy the gas pedal to the floor, and when it is all It loses its clutch (the back behaves somewhat playfully, and Dunlop low -profile tires do not like puddles too much), then you catch it literally instinctively, immediately.

Ultimately, it seems that GT-R was created for speed, Evora for the sake of obtaining sensations. Each reveals the weak and strengths of the opponent. What Evora gives you is not to get from Nissan, and vice versa. And to choose a winner in this duel, an absolutely devoid of meaning.
