I perfectly remember the debut of Jeep Compass, held in 2006 on the roads of Sweden. It was then that the 70-year-old American brand challenged the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4, which at that time at that time had the hearts of Russian representatives of the weaker sex. The compact SUV from the US was really good. The crossover certainly was suitable for operation in our cities, where there is no real off -road, but there are ice, broken asphalt and high borders. In such conditions, just the way came a 20 -centimeter clearance, which, combined with a high landing, gave confidence in the poorly lit streets of sleeping areas.

True, it is worth noting that the appearance of a funny luplane is not suitable for everyone. Compared to the legendary Cherokee or Wrangler, the old Compass looked somehow childish, not serious enough.

The new version is fundamentally different from its predecessor. Most importantly, he received a proprietary jeep grate of the radiator. Now no one will have doubts about what glorious family our hero belongs to. But innovations are not limited. Compass really became completely different. This statement applies to the hood, and to the wings, and to optics. The debutant is very reminiscent of a reduced, but not lost masculinity of Grand Cherokee.

As for the salon, almost everything has changed here. At first glance, it becomes noticeable that the designer who painted the interior is not indifferent to circles. They are everywhere here, performing the roles of dials of the panel of devices, ventilation holes, climate control regulators, musical columns, holes for glasses and cans. The most noticeable circle is placed right in front of the driver in the center of the steering wheel. Immediately, it is easy to notice the familiar logo of the American brand.

The materials of the finish also improved. Previously, plastic Compass received a replacement in the form of more expensive soft materials, which brings the new product closer to the premium class. But something in the new crossover remains of the old version. We are talking about a funny removable ceiling with an automatically charged battery, which is built into the roof lining. This lamp can be used as a portable lamp. When the ceiling is in a regular place, it performs the interior lighting function.

The first acquaintance with the new Jeep Compass took place in glamorous Milan, where the car looks more than harmonious. For the test, I chose one of two engines, which, according to experts, will be most popular in our country. This refers to the gasoline 2.4 -liter World Engine with a mechanism for regulating the phase distribution of both distribution shafts, which allows the optimal characteristics of the torque at any speed of the crankshaft. This 170 -horsepower engine produces 220 Nm of torque and differs not only in good acceptance, but also with less noise.

On the Compass highway is very similar to the usual hatchback. In particular, the steering wheel has become more sharp, and at the same time the car, oddly enough, has become more comfortable. It was possible to check this not only at the wheel, but also on the site of the rear passenger. Of course, the rear sofa is difficult to call the royal throne, but a man of medium physique, as I consider myself, feels quite free there.

There was no limit to surprise when, after road tests, journalists received an invitation to a specially prepared SUV route. For a compact jeep, a rather serious set of obstacles was prepared, during which the Compass leaked, hanged the wheels, creaked, but stubbornly moved to the finish line. I want to note that I went through the obstacle strip twice first, like a driver, and then in place of the passenger. I dare to say that even in Russian conditions outside the asphalt, the American is capable of what. Although, of course, this crossover is not a real rogue.

For good off -road qualities, you should thank the branding system of all -wheel drive with a blocked center differential. In Lock mode, up to 60% of the torque is transmitted to the rear axle. In practice, this means that you will not have problems on shallow snow or on a solid country road.

Russian dealers are already accepting orders for Jeep Compass, which will be sold in the only Limited Complex.
