Test Drive Great Wall Hover H5 since 2011 SUV

Check Chinese SUV

SUVs of the Chinese brand Great Wall are only one year sold in Russia. Most motorists belong to these cars with a large share of distrust. And, as it turns out, make it right. At least, the test of the new model Great Wall Hover, which refers to the number of expensive, showed that the Chinese are still far from the world. Although they have more prices.

Chinese companies are very actively selling their cars in Russia. However, what are the cars brought from the Middle Kingdom of it difficult to say until you try. After all, the very place of production of one or another thing does not say anything in the end, on a huge number of household appliances, computers, and so on, stands stamp Made in China. But on the other hand, all these goods are made under the brand of famous world manufacturers who are not only responsible for their product, but also carefully control the assembly process. But cars sold in Russia from China are made directly to Chinese firms. And, honestly, it is very alarming.

Serious car for serious money?
Great Wall Hover was made by the Chinese recently. At the very least, the design of this model is very interesting (actually Hover is very much reminded by the Japanese model of Isuzu Axon, but it does not matter). Moreover, it is nice to look at the car from all sides. He gives the impression of a really serious SUV, which is not ashamed to sit even a serious businessman. And only the company's branded emblem of Great Wall, and the rear nameplates spoil moreover, even with a careful study of the paint and the quality of the body assembly, the feeling of a solid-made car does not disappear! In general, the appearance is the great dignity of the Great Wall Hover (thanks for this, however, it is worth saying isuzu).

And to continue the story about this chic Chinese SUV, it is necessary to say about the price, because the cost of the car largely determines the requirements for it. So, for the Great Wall Hover, we are fully driven by a full-wheel drive in Russia, $ 26,950 thousand are as honest, money is quite decent and, alas for the Chinese, corresponds to such a price only the appearance of the car. After all, for $ 27 thousand. You can buy a very decent car, and adding another bit to take a new Japanese SUV or crossover type Suzuki Grand Vitara or Mitsubishi Outlander. Yes, and about Korean SUVs, too, you can not forget they are not much more expensive than the Great Wall Hover, and in terms of the quality of the assembly and decoration of materials, it is much superior. At the very least, they have no such plastic smell of a new car. Yes, and the salon is collected better.

And the Great Wall Hover is allotted from the contradictions. On the one hand, the inside of the car is finished with leather (far from the best, but still skin), but at the same time the front panel is made of not the best plastic. Yes, in addition, the quality of the assembly of the elements of the cabin causes doubts (and do not say phrases that you still want for this money - $ 27 thousand. This is not at all pennies). In the center of the front console there is a good liquid crystal monitor, however, at night, his bright blue backlight with constantly jumping columns of a colored equalizer begins to make it very quickly annoying such a feeling that you sit inside the Christmas tree that blinks with your garlands. Or another moment in the Great Wall Hover configuration is climate control, but the long trip showed that sometimes it works on a completely incomprehensible scheme. In general, the salon of this Chinese produces a fairly favorable impression, but only if the driver did not go on really good cars.

In the swamps it is better not to cross
It must be said that the Chinese themselves do not apply for Hover to consider the real SUV. They immediately say that this is the so-called crossover, where you can safely ride the city and getting ready to pretty moderate off-road. That is why in the snow, this car turns out to be helpless somewhat earlier than any serious SUVs.

The representatives of Great Wall during the test did a special emphasis on the fact that the basis of this car lies a frame (like real passing), but simple experiments have shown that the frame here is some kind of slips and when hanging the wheel, the rear doors open / close already with labor. And that is why with a lot of probability, you can predict that in the future on the Great Wall Hover in the cabin, something will definitely begin to creak (this is at least).

It is necessary to work as Chinese and over manageability, although it would be ridiculous from such a car. But the brakes will not be any discount. They are notinformative and the driver is very difficult to understand when blocking came (and it can come quickly, as the brakes have a rather tenacious). And with no ABS in the car! Its absence is completely incomprehensible, especially given the price of the machine and the presence in the cabin there are in principle unnecessary for an affordable car on the vehicle as an electric drive of leather chairs. It would be better to put a good ABS instead, and even better and the illegal ESP.

As for the engine, there were no complaints about it, especially if some large demands on force aggregate (under the hover hover there is a 2.3-liter gasoline engine). Representatives of the Great Wall proudly stated that it was made at Mitsubishi, but in fact this power unit is produced in China under the Mitsubishi license (agree, this is not the same thing). The engine power is far from giant (130 hp), which also cannot be attributed to the merits of the model, because many competitors have a greater number of horses. However, plus the motor consists in a good torque on the bottoms and an acceptable fuel consumption in the city takes 10-14 liters. per 100 km. And I also liked the suspension. It is comfortable and, which is very important, simple (it can be quite easy to repair, and there are no parts for spare parts).

The answer is negative
And now it is necessary to answer the most important question? Is it worth buying a Great Wall Hover? There is no answer. At least, not for $ 27 thousand. This is too much for the car with the average quality of assembly, far from the most powerful engine and, most importantly, anywhere with a disjoint image. After all, Chinese cars must attract economical buyers, first of all, there is no low price, but there are no it in this case. Therefore, it is better to add $ 2-3 thousand and take a Japanese or Korean crossover, which will not have a leather interior, but it will give a great level of security (several pillows, ABS, etc. Guaranteed), as well as confidence in the reliability of the machine and certain respect from the part surrounding. Or it is worth paying your gaze on 3-year-old SUVs from well-known manufacturers, which even in a slightly used state will be, well, let's say, not worse than Hover.
