Ford official dealers have started selling a Mondeo model with a unique 2.2 -liter diesel engine. This is the most powerful 4-cylinder engine on diesel fuel.

Recently, the Ford Mondeo debut with a Duratorq TDCI diesel engine with a volume of 2.2 liters (power of 155 hp) took place on the domestic market. The dynamic parameters of this motor are impressive. The maximum speed of the car is 216 km/h. Acceleration to a hundred takes only 9 s, which is the best indicator compared to closest competitors. In this case, fuel consumption in the mixed cycle does not exceed 6.3 liters.

The engine uses the advanced technology of the Common Rail fuel supply (total fuel ramp) to increase power. It is equipped with a turbocharged system with altered geometry Over Boost. For quick acceleration, it is enough to drown the accelerator pedal on the floor. Due to the short -term increase in the pressure pressure, the system will increase the maximum torque from 360 to 400 nm. Along with increasing power and torque, Ford engineers worked on the optimization of fuel combustion and a decrease in harmful emissions, using nozzles with a family (instead of five) thin channels. This made it possible to achieve better spraying and combustion of fuel. As a result, the new motor complies with the ecological norms of Euro-4.

The diesel engine and the silence of the thing are almost incompatible. Our Mondeo was no exception. Even at a distance of several meters from the car, the clawing sound of a working diesel is clearly heard. But, having settled in a convenient driver's seat, you find that noise insulation is made well. At idle speed, the engine sound is soft and unobtrusive. And if quietly playing music serves as an acoustic background, then the grumbling diesel is not heard at all.

A quick start is not always obtained. The driver requires the skill of jewelry pedaling. The clutch pedal has a large move. In this case, the closure of the linings of the driven disk on the engine flywheel occurs at the very beginning of the reverse traffic control, quickly and hard. If at this moment you do not hold the clutch pedal and feel free to not give on the gases, you can stall.

On the road, the car perfectly holds straight, without demanding steering. The speed of 200 km/h does not care him. On the steering wheel, a near -Stolium zone is felt well. And in tense bends, the steering wheel is poured with a pleasant weight that helps to better feel the car. With dynamic driving around the city, it is often necessary to use transmissions, constantly holding the engine in the range of 15003500 min-1. The diesel is almost instantly untwisted to the maximum 5,000 rpm, requiring either an increased or reduced gear if the speeds fell to 2000 per minute before overclocking.

But this is not related to turboyama. You have to do this rather out of habit, knowing how other turbodiesels behave. The name Duratorq can be translated as a constant moment. Indeed, the range of maximum torque of this engine is much wider. The diesel is already lucky with 1500 min-1 and fades around 4000 min-1. His craving is simply locomotive, so Forders have something to be proud of. And the transfer numbers in the Communist Party are selected in such a way that the engine, working at low speeds, confidently disperses the car from 7090 kilometers per hour in fifth and sixth gear.

If you move in the general stream with a low speed, forgetting about all sorts of tachometers, speedometers, coolant temperature indicators and fuel levels, you can easily drive through the whole city, turning on the fourth gear. When the arrow of the tachometer drops to a thousand revolutions and below, the engine reminds that it became difficult for it, only tangible vibration. But the driver’s order to maintain speed or go faster, without switching to a reduced gear, confidently performs.

The diesel mondeo has a prospect

We began the sale of diesel versions relatively recently. This happened due to the fact that domestic oil refineries improved the quality of fuel produced, at least in the central regions of the country. Until recently, Russian diesel fuel completely did not meet European norms. It differed in a high content of sulfur and water. Combining with each other, these chemical elements form sulfuric acid, which in turn spoils the surface of the parts and is the cause of failures in the operation of fuel equipment. But the situation with fuel quality changes for the better. Nevertheless, the townsfolk retains a wary attitude to diesel engines, although the pluses are obvious. Diesel engines are of enviable efficiency: at the same price with gasoline, diesel fuel is spent twice more slowly. In addition to financial benefit, this brings additional comfort. The driver will have to call at the gas station much less often. I believe that the diesel version of Mondeo has very good prospects, especially in conditions of serious rise in fuel.
