Ford Mondeo enjoys well -deserved popularity and occupies the upper lines in sales ratings - he is the actual leader of the Ford passenger unit in Europe. It is not surprising that the appearance of an updated Mondeo on the Frankfurt salon caused a healthy excitement among visitors. Immediately after the salon, at the end of September, in the vicinity of Cologne Autopilot tried a new product in the case.
For photography, the weather was unimportant - all day, as luck would have it, it was raining. Five brandy wet Mondeo were waiting for us before the entrance of the hotel near the Köln airport. Armed with umbrellas, we started with an external inspection.
  
  Look, don't make a mistake. The creators of the new model did not follow the path of the revolution, but along the path of evolution. At first glance, there are not so many external changes. The first triangular headlights and an original bumper with widely placed trapezoidal fog lights are the first to catch the eye. The latter, by the way, are now much lower for better lighting. In the lower part of the bumper is a narrow chrome strip. But the shape of the radiator grill remained the same, although it received a metallized cladding. In general, the face of the car remained recognizable, although it became much more solid.
On the sides of the car - chrome stripes that outline the lines of doorways, chrome door handles. The hulls of lateral mirrors have become larger - now the lighting lamps are integrated in them. This is very convenient in the dark - they are turned on when pressing the opening button on the central lock on the keychain. Remember how many times when trying to get into the car in the winter you had to advance a boot in an ice slurry?
 
News block. The creators of the fresher mondeo claim that it has 1,500 innovations. It is difficult to believe in it until you sit in the car’s interior. Almost everything became for others: door cladding, steering wheel, central console, seats. A small 4-sleeping steering wheel is made in an avant-garde and sports style, and a navigation system with a color touch display and a Premium class of the Sony company with a 6-disk chainger and support for MP3 format appeared on the central console. The console itself is curved more smoothly and fits into the interior of the cabin, in our opinion, better than the same.
 
 
 
In the upper part of the dashboard, quite large oval watches with arrows appeared. Again, in our subjective opinion, here the designers were a little overdue - the clock is so original that the arrows are lost against the background of the dial. However, in the dark, when the dimensions are turned on, the clock arrows begin to glow with a pleasant dark red light.
The seats in our configuration are trimmed with Alcantara and have not only 5 levels of heating, but also 5 ventilation levels. The door cladding also underwent serious changes: the armrest acquired an anatomical form - now it’s nice to put his hand on it. There are many pleasant little things in the cabin: a newly decorated buttons, pens, metal inserts. In the configuration, such a useful thing as a rain sensor appeared.
 
It will be not enough! For the first part of our test drive, we chose a silver station wagon with the Duratec He 2.0 engine, a mechanical five-speed gearbox and navigation. For about 15 minutes, having fused the city, we went to the autobahn. From the first kilometers, only the steering wheel delivered light discomfort. The fact that he is small is even good. However, the knitting needles have a rather uncomfortable shape - fingers get tired quickly. Here, designers obviously went to please the appearance due to comfort.
From the 2-liter engine did not have to expect special agility, and we pressed on the gashter very hard. A few minutes later, a few minutes later, they realized that in the left series we were not always comfortable. In order not to feel damage on the German motorway, the engine had to twist up to 5-6 thousand revolutions almost all the time. Up to 130 km/h the car accelerates quite decent. To feel tangible acceleration after 160 km/h, it is better to choose a section of the road that goes under the hill. Faster than 180 km/h the car accelerates extremely reluctantly and very slowly. The motor roars with its 145 forces, and the tachometer arrow is constantly hanging in the area of \u200b\u200bthe red zone. However, these two liters will be quite enough for movement in urban mode - but for racing the car is clearly not intended.
Despite some lethargy of the 2-liter engine, the manageability of the new Mondeo is beyond praise. The car has excellent brakes, it behaves perfectly at high speed, does not scour, and an acute sensitive steering wheel even provokes the driver to the quick passage of turns. In general, from driving at a speed of 80-90 km/h you get real pleasure.
  
Less, but better. In the afternoon, we were replaced by the car - now we have Ford Mondeo Octane Blue color. This color is also new, although it is very similar to ordinary blue. Under the hood of a car - a completely new motor with direct fuel injection - Duratec 1.8 Sci. The engine is the first similar development of Ford. The abbreviation SCI comes from the name of the intellectual fuel injection system. Raisins lies in the fact that in the new engine the fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber, and not into the intake manifold. The completely aluminum 16-valve 130-horsepower Duratec1.8 SCI is much more economical than its standard 125-horsepower counterpart. This is especially noticeable when operating in low load modes, such as idling or moving in a dense city stream with slight accelerations, when only part of the combustion chamber is filled with a combustible mixture. The new engine has a number of constructive changes. These are special nozzles, pistons with recesses for the maximum approximation of the fuel mixture to the spark plug, an HTNVD like a diesel, as well as a new intake manifold with a filling valve with a combustible mixture and a burning system for exhaust gases under Euro-4 standards. On ours, not only a new motor is installed, but also a new gearbox - a six -speed MMT6. For the first time, such a box was installed on a 130-horsepower Mondeo TDCI in 2002.
The first impression of the engine - it works much quieter. It was pleasantly surprised that SCI confidently pulls from 2500 revolutions. The second wind opens, like a standard engine, somewhere after 4 thousand. According to the 1.8-liter 130-horsepower, SCI is not only not inferior to the 2-liter 145-strong one, but also accelerates the car much more freak. In addition, when driving through an autobahn in the highest 6th gear, you can easily maintain a cruising speed of 200 km/h.
Alas, the new Ford Mondeo with the SCI engine to Russia will not be supplied yet. There will be no cars with a new diesel engine with direct injection Duratorg TDDI 2.0 in Russia. The reason is in the low quality of domestic fuel, which Ford is not ready to spread its guarantee. However, all other changes will be available to the Russian buyer literally tomorrow.
