Kolesa.ru went to test the next modification of Ford Kuga, and eventually found themselves at the Finnish stage of the World Rally WRC. Not that Kuga has become so fast, but - a dozen Kuga with Moscow numbers fulfilled their program: without losses they got from Pulkovo to the heart of the rally Finland, and back.

Since childhood, I wanted to get on the Neste Rally Finland. Real gravel rally with the best of the best, which directly in your nose is dusty and scatter gravel in the face, the body and lenses of fans and simply satisfied drunken yawas, which gathered in the hope of seeing a beautiful accident, and better roof. And even better roof in 10 revolutions. When I had the opportunity to be in Jyväskyl, I cooled to the rally racing. Mainly because all automakers left the WRC, except for Ford and Citroen. And instead of a serious tournament of large corporations, the world championship has just become a rally, where two auto giant compete with small teams and their pilots enthusiasts. However, next year, the techrellament will change and may open the path to WRC to other factory teams.

Gravel is the element of Ford. This was proved by Yari Matti Latvala, confidently won by everyone, including such stars as Peter Solberg and Sebastien Loeb. And it confirmed Kuga, on which a bad road for some reason seemed smaller than good.

Let the Finnish primers before we still grow and grow (or rather - to fight and fight, blur and eroded), but after the grader and wanted gravel, the local tracks were also not a gift. And completely to the place of the crossover suspension turned out to be excellent energy intensity. The wheels and shock absorbers had to be not easy, but passengers could only guess: Kuga almost did not shake, the vibrations were not felt, the trajectory was obvious.
 
The asphalt issues arose much more. Fords made the steering wheel very sharp, and the chassis's reaction to the rotation almost lightning. At the same time, on the test machine, the change of the electric mode was not reflected in any way. And despite all the sharpness with short maneuvers and single rebuildings, sports stability and did not smell.

But we traveled 1,000 km on the new modification of KUGA not for the sake of the suspension, but because of the motor and gearbox, first who were under the hood of the crossover.

As the basis of the new Ford Power Unit, the tested 136-strong 2.0-liter TDCI was taken. Engineers reduced the compression ratio (16.0: 1 instead of 17.6: 1), increased by 20% the diameter of the combustion chamber, increased pressure in the injection system (2,000 bar instead of 1,650), was replaced by electromagnetic nozzles (now stand with 8 holes instead of 6) and set More compact turbocharger with variable geometry. Compared to the predecessor, the maximum speed increased from 180 to 195 km / h, acceleration time from 0 to 100 km / h decreased from 10.7 to 9.6 seconds, and acceleration from 50 to 100 km / h on the fourth gear is no longer 9.4, but 8.1 seconds.

The appetite of the 163-strong (140-strong try in the case could not) the motor turned out to be noticeably above the indicator, which is called in Ford. The test copy in an extremely leisurely rustic cycle consumed 7.5 liters per 100 km, whereas in the specifications the consumption of 6.0 liters in the cycle is mixed!

However, on the Finnish general use roads to lead a quick and powerful car is very difficult. Many long-distance trails have a limit of 80 km / h, or even up to 60 km / h and a hidden camera takes out, and 95% of the local population under the gun shower will not allow themselves to exceed the speed. Actually, because the chambers themselves honestly stand shortly after the warning, and the fines in Suomi are much higher than ours.

Kuga is not fast and not powerful, but a moment car; Sharply tears off the place and quickly develops the minimum 60 km / h to calmly squeeze into the Stream of Finnish highway. The speaker does not suffer from the number of passengers and the magnitude (and weights) of road bags in the 360-liter1 trunk.

The new Ford engine refreshes in memory, close, but it would seem that the past times when the car had a turboyama. Now there are often several different blowers or other tricks to avoid this phenomenon. But Kuga before accelerating about 1,300-1,400 revolutions per minute withstands an unnecessary pause. Although acceleration is significantly more confident than on a 136-strong modification of diesel.

And not the last role in the dynamic increase was played by Transmission. Ford chose a new two-time 6-speed PowerShift automatic automatic automatic transmission with two clips. Like Volkswagen DSG, it has a sports mode and manual switching mechanism. At the same time, for ordinary overtaking on the highway, it was absolutely no need to move into a sports algorithm; The gearbox is very quickly and in a timely manner, and in turns specifically holds the transmission and does not increase. Very active automatic on braking: the box itself, and the case connects the lower speeds, slightly overlooking the car and trying to predict, what kind of speed will need a driver. If the driver did not slow down to a complete stop, and decided to start sharply, it would appreciate the transfreight of the checkpoint.

Liked:
- Diesel with automatic: low fuel consumption, excellent traction and do not need to switch the transfer every 10 seconds. Proper combination, damn it! I also liked the readiness of the steering and the energy intensity of the suspension.

Did not like:
- Noise isolation still have to improve. There is little place in the cabin for small items (for example, mobile). Stiffness suspension; Energy intensity is good, but most of the life of KUGA will hold on asphalt; Feel every twirl on which I would not want ...
