Test Drive Citroen C-Crosser since 2007 SUV

C-Crosser Drive

Only when you spend on the wheel to thirteen hours a day, you truly evaluate the car. And his running quality, and the seats profile, and how well the cup holders are located in general, every little thing, because in the long road there is no little detail. With Citroen C-Crosser, I had such a story: on a gasoline version with the variator, I made a trip to Rostov-on-Don and back, and after another week I traveled in Moscow by car with a diesel engine. And, I must admit, the French crossover left very pleasant impressions.
Choice right
Employed Citroen C-Crosser in close relationship with Mitsubishi Outlander XL and with peugeot 4007 Empty occupation. It is enough to just state: all three models have the same base, most of the body panels, and are going to one Japanese factory in Mitsushim. The manufacturer does not hide these facts, and the consumer does not deceive, but gives him the possibility of an additional choice. In addition, the differences, first of all, external, is obvious.
We will be fair: Citroen designers gave their C-Crosser more expressive and, I would say, elegant features, quite successfully entered it into the style of my own model range. The front part has original branded chevrons that enhance the radiator grille and intersect with the front headlights. Yes, and the head of the headlight is unusual. By the way, I note that xenon headlights in the EXCLUSIVE configuration perfectly cope with the task. I left Moscow at four in the morning, and almost immediately at the Moscow Ring Road in the dark zone. But the route looked enough even with the nightlights of the headlights, which made it possible to keep a decent speed, and the fog bonds helped not to move in the side of the roadside (and this is no wonder, given the absence in many parts of any marking).
The stern part is also not deprived of the grace: the convex bumper smoothly goes into the arches of the wheels, and the special chrome pad will mask the connection of the upper and lower sections of the luggage compartment door. Such a two-component system greatly facilitates loading the height of the threshold over the ground is only 640 mm. In addition, during the stops, we used the backstage back as a table. On it, you can even sit this shelf withstands up to two hundred kilograms. LED rear lights form, of course, resemble Outlander, but still do not copy Japanese development. In general, the appearance of C-Crosser, especially with 18-inch discs in a rich configuration, in my opinion, is quite attractive. I, perhaps, from all the triple preferred exactly the exterior from Citroen. However, this is a matter of taste.
Simple criterion
If you evaluate the interior of the C-Crosser in terms of its relationship with the original source is almost an exact copy of Outlander XL. The instrument shield, the front panel, the center console, door sidewalls and even the buttons are all the same. Only a ram with branded chevron makes it possible to understand what you are driving Citroen. Although the logic is obvious to the Salon of the Japanese car functional and sports, change it in the parties would mean to destroy the harmony, and to redo it would be completely silent.
However, it seems more important to evaluate the salon easily conveniently traveling in it, or not. The first and main result of this approach: after 13 hours behind the wheel, which were required to overcome 1050 km, I did not feel much fatigue. Perhaps, only eyes were tired, but the body of the back, neck, legs and hands were not at all. Short stops were enough to notice anything. And this means that the seat is moderately soft and very well profiled, although they do not possess pronounced lateral support, still allow you to avoid excessive voltage in turns. The range of their adjustments is wide, which compensates for the inability to move the beam on the departure (up / down please). Skin-skinned steering wheel of a small diameter and, which is especially nice, it always has feedback. With the back of the petals for switching gear.
In front of the eyes, two oval wells of a tachometer and a speedometer, between them the onboard computer monitor, to which audio data data is also displayed. Music, by the way, sounds good, especially in the top version with the Rockford Fosgate center (8 columns, subwoofer and a 650 watt amplifier). You can control the sound using the buttons on the ram.
We traveled together, and therefore especially estimated the presence of cupboards ahead, comfortable compartments in the sidewalls of the door and a rather roomy niche in the armrest between the front seats. In fact, in the cabin C-Crosser there is a total of 22 capacity. It is also worth mentioning that the rear seats (they are also not close) can move forward / back to 80 mm, which allows you to vary the volume of the luggage compartment ranging from 441 to 510 liters. If the seats are folded, then the total compartment reaches 1691 liters. In addition, in Russia the crossover is offered in a 7-seater configuration, that is, with the seats of the third row. They are hidden in the floor of the trunk. I decomposed their time from a pure interest, having come to the conclusion that it could be convenient for them. It may except that children, and even if the trip does not take too much time the seats are noticeably tougher.
On the road
I remember, in the first publication about Citroen C-Crosser (No. 7, April 2008), my colleague was to the conclusion that the car with a 170-strong gasoline engine and with a CVT variator for racing is not designed. Perhaps even most likely it is. In particular, if you keep in mind the ride on mountain serpents with a preliminary drift before each turn. Recognize, however, that the rare consumer will demand from the crossover truly sports settings. I appreciated the car from the point of view of its ability to confidently overcome the distances of the roads available in Russia, while providing speed, comfort and safety.
I will say this: I am on the road to Rostov-on-Don and back, in general, enough of the total and capacity, and the possibilities of transmission, and amenities. I did not require the car impossible, but at the same time whether the stock of the thrust was easily calculated to overtake the three wagons at once on the site viewed. The variator, I must say, sufficiently adapts to the driving style, and with a sharp press on the accelerator pedal goes to a pair of steps down, guaranteeing pickup. There were, however, the situation in which I had to activate manual control of the box because, saving fuel, CVT did not want to jump for 4000 rpm when it was required. In manual mode, it is possible to spinning the engine to maximum revolutions, when the electronics is achieved anyway turns to the next step. It is not difficult to do it, but, frankly, even in the long road, I was rarely bored with superfluous manipulations.
Separately, I want to say about the smoothness of the stroke. Probably, an extreme ride amateur will call the suspension not tough, the traveler is optimal. They allow not to notice ordinary road flashes, and at the same time they are not frightening with too large carriages with sharp rebuilding control over the machine is not lost.
A few words about the full drive system. On the track of the snow and the ice, I have not yet used the front-wheel drive. In this case, the crossover demonstrated, as it should be, the so-called insufficient turning sought to the nose to the viragee. What is good in terms of security, not very good from the point of view of the active driver, but is predicted. You can translate the drive selection selector, which is located on the tunnel between the driver and the passenger, to the AUTO mode. In this case, the electronics itself will decide how many points should be back, but it will only occur when the front wheels are slipped or the signal from the stabilization system sensors. Several times, moving from the route for coffee stop on the village, I involved this mode. And it seemed to me that the electronics somewhat abruptly connects the rear wheels. Although for a full picture still need to twist the car on a slippery highway in winter. The mode of constant full drive Lock, according to the first impression, provides greater predictability in the behavior of the car, although I did not have the opportunity to feel all the nuances to the future for the future.
Finally, with regard to economy. To confess, fuel consumption at the level of less than ten liters, I did not achieve even on the track on the on-board computer showed the flow rate of about 11 liters per hundred. What is also quite good. Although the diesel version in this respect is more profitable.
In the town
In truth, I regretted that C-Crosser with a 2.2-liter 160-strong turboodiesel got me after a trip to the south he would have helped to save healthy. But, most importantly, it is already, you can say another car. First, the diesel engine developed by the French company gives the car with a markedly more impressive accelerating dynamics. Secondly, the 6-speed mechanic with rather clear moves of the lever and in moderation of a light informative clutch pedal gives additional opportunities to the driver. In this case, the motor demonstrates elasticity, so that on one transmission (except for the first two, of course) you can move in a fairly wide speed range. At the Moscow Ring Road, when he is not too loaded, I generally drove the advantage on one sixth gear, smoothly accelerating from 80 km / h. Thirdly, the suspension themselves seem more elastic, most likely due to the greater, compared to gasoline, the weight of the power unit. Finally, due to the excellent engine insulation, the engine on low and medium turns in the cabin is almost not heard.
