Studying the history of automobile companies, you involuntarily come across the idea that the first modern Audi R8 supercar has a very interesting pedigree. The connections between the R8 and Lamborghini Gallardo are known, but do not forget that the Volkswagen Group concern, which includes Audi, also owns the Porsche AG company. Thus, the eight was created at the intersection of two legendary automobile brands: Lamborghini and Porsche.
Athletes and automobile journalists have an unspoken division of cars into sports and supercars. The first are any sports in a sports character regardless of power, starting with Opel Corsa OPC and ending with Mercedes E 63 AMG. To possess such a machine means leading an active lifestyle, be able to correctly twist the steering wheel and quickly travel on ice without the help of a stabilization system.
Cars with engines of at least 350 horses can be ranked to the stabs of supercars, preferably posterior or medium-engineer and, of course, with racing charisma. The 507-horsepower BMW M5, with all due respect to the Bavarian brand and incredible dynamics, can hardly be called a supercar, but the light 700-kilogram Lotus Elise, albeit with a 1.8-liter engine, with a certain stretch of a supercar.
The demand for supercars, although subject to fashion influences, remains very stable. Such a car cannot be bought by accident, from the bay-bary. At the wheel of supercars, only people are thoroughly turned at high speeds, and even then only chosen ones. For the market of supercars is measured by several tens of thousands a year and this is for several billion drivers.
And the fact that Audi decided to release the road version of the R8 is a real event, since against the background of Ferrari or Lamborghini the German brand looks relatively affordable. Judge the basic version of the R8 with a robotic gearbox costs 142,000 euros in Russia (from 193,000 dollars), while the prices of Italian horses and bulls are significantly exceeding 200,000 euros. By the way, in the USA, Audi R8 is completely a folk car of prices from 109 thousand dollars.
Another parameter for the supercar is maximum speed: it must certainly be exceeded for 300 km/h. And Audi here is no exception, the manufacturer promises a maximum speed of 301 km/h.
When studying photographs, it is easy to detect the similarity between the Audi R8 and his younger brother TT. They are created in the same style and one designer Walter and Silva. However, everything is different in life. Eight captivates with its narrowed eyes with diode cilia dimensions and does not allow to tear off up to the rear lamps. And how stylishly one can sit on the rear wing seems that it is precisely for this that it is created. Not a single girl will pass by, only an eyebrow.
If you look closely, you can notice that the Audi TT and Lamborghini Gallardo ideas and the Audi profile are in the behind. This is not surprising in this with the legendary Italian bull of the German connects the common chassis, and many other details. The same all-wheel drive transmission with a viscous coupling in the front wheel drive, capable of transmitting from 10 to 35 % torque, and a robotic 6-speed gearbox. The traditional mechanical checkpoint is also available on R8, but the demand for it in Russia is minimal. We will talk about the reasons for this phenomenon below.
But back to Audi cockpit. It is the cockpit here that everything is subordinated to the driver, a layer of a real Kevlavra is surrounded around him. Its use in the R8 sometimes even seems excessive, although in any case it is pleasant to realize that each such thing is made by hand, with very qualified hands, and the weight of the Kevlavr saves decently. The tested supercar weighs 1610 kg, and this is, provided that there is all-wheel drive and a 420-horsepower engine.
We got the R8 with a robotic gearbox R-Tronic, which, according to the principle of action, is similar to the F-1 transmission. For the dardry, the Lounch Control function is provided with the fastest start. It works when turning off the anti -resistance system and allows you to catapult from place to hundreds for 4.6 seconds declared by the manufacturer without much difficulty. At the same time, there is no need to accurately control the clutch pedal and dose the gas: he pressed the gashter to the stop, the electronics will do everything else itself. Such acceleration most resembles the blow to the head, which is applied to you, if not Vitaly Klitschko, then certainly someone is not from a timid dozen. And if after acceleration to hundreds to hit the brakes sharply, then not long and before losing consciousness. By the way, when starting with Lounch Control, the robot begins to work much faster than in the standard transmission mode switch without the slightest delay, while the failures are usually noticeable.
At first, it is very difficult to evaluate the r8 controllability that it is impossible to break the car into sliding: it implicitly performs any driver’s commands, even the most delusional, the steering wheel remains relatively light, but quite informative. However, even a supercar has a limit, and the behavior of the eight behind the line turned out to be very interesting, the central -motor layout provides an incredible level of lateral overloads, but it is necessary to hold the ear in the same way. From excess traction, the skids develop very quickly, and it is not always possible to control it. With the speed of speed, ESP tightens control over the machine in response to a sharp roll at speed under a hundred electronics instantly suppresses slipping. It is convenient that the ESP is disconnected in two stages can only be deactivated by the anti -resistance system or completely disable the electronics. At the same time, despite the all -wheel drive, the R8 behaves like a real rear -wheel drive, and dashingly hides the tail at the first request of the driver.
Needless to say, I sincerely did not want to part with the Audi R8. Reasoning soberly, if such an approach is generally possible when choosing a supercar, you can come to buy an eight in two ways as the next step from the road front -line cars like ESCOS AUDI and EMOC BMW or if you want to get an original supercar from Italy. Of the R8 red-class rivals, a more comfortable and tourist Jaguar XKR can be noted, which comes only with an automaton, but has an open version, and the incredibly fast Porsche 911 Turbo. Oddly enough, but with similar power and even in the presence of blood kinship, the latter turns out to be faster and more aggressive, although not so futuristic, but this is a topic for another test drive. Another worthy opponent of the Audi RS6 super-UNIVERSAL Presented in Frankfurt 580 hp. The Germans promise that the price of the car will be comparable to the cost of R8.
PS. By the way, running ahead, it can be most likely assumed that in the near future a new version of the Audi R8 with a 5.5-liter V12 TDI turbodiesel, which has already brought Audi two victories in Le Man. More recently, this motor made its debut under the hood of the Audi R8 V12 TDI concept. In serial production, its capacity will be 500 hp, while in the racing specification it developed all 550 horses. So very soon the supercars can be seasoned with diesel fuel, only for low fuel consumption and economical riding is hardly worth counting.

- How do you evaluate the dynamics and control of the car?
- The dynamics and speed indicators, in my opinion, are quite consistent with the image of the car and are generally very impressive. I would appreciate them at 4 with the pole. But from the point of view of piloting this car, there are gaps. R8 has quite dangerous behavior. She falls too sharply into the skid, and the lateral acceleration seemed not high enough.
- What can you say about the ergonomics of the salon?
- very comfortable seat, at least for the driver, and the pedal node, one hundred percent high-quality, energy-intensive decoration materials, but something is not thought out in terms of speeding in manual mode. I got used to the box for a very long time, honest mechanics would be much more fun. But in general, everything is at a very high level.
- What competitors will the eight fight?
- Lamborghini Gollardo and Porsche 911 Carrera 4s, it is difficult to compare it with other cars. The eight is very close to the motor-sports, and even more powerful citizens nervously smoke on the sidelines.
