Comments:
The large Volvo turned out to be very safe and provided good protection, especially noticeable with a side blow, when the driver’s head is protected by an inflatable curtain of safety. Experts had previously tested children's chairs established “against the direction of movement”, which turned out to be one of the safest. They had floor supports, but in this case, these devices did not show the same good result as before. The protection of pedestrians turned out to be average for cars of this class: some softening is provided to the heads, but the protection of the legs is estimated at 0 points.Frontal blow:
The passenger salon retained integrity, but large loads affect the chest cells of passengers. The zone near the knees was safe, with the exception of the place under the steering column. There were some rigid elements covered with a protective lining. A few points were also removed from the assessment for the protection of the bottom of the right leg due to the fact that the load on the lower leg was slightly higher than the norm.Safety of passenger children:
Volvo branded children's seats have already been tested in 1998. In this case, one of the floor supports, when hit, slipped forward, tearing the rug. The manufacturer announced his intention to introduce a new system of children's aged 0-3 years in February 2000. New chairs will be attached directly to the seats of ISOFIX locks, which should make their installation simpler.Side blow:
The SIPS system showed a good result. The side pillow of safety is expanded to protect the chest and abdominal parts. The inflatable curtain of safety did not allow the head hit on the pillar during the side hit of the car on the pillar. This guarantees safety in a collision, in which the driver had not had many chances to survive before.Pedestrian safety:
The front of this car was very solid and traumatic for pedestrians. The acceptable softening was provided only by the zone of the child’s head.General information about the car
