Comments:

Modus went down in the history of tests as the first representative of the ultra -low class, who earned five stars. Such an assessment was set after a repeated frontal blow that followed the improvements of the driver’s airbag. The car body turned out to be extremely strong, providing good protection to adult passengers: only two points are lost in the frontal blow. Passive safety systems included two -stage airbags and belts with double pretense and load limiters. The rear extreme seats belts are also equipped with pretense (though single) and load limiters. The protection of children was good, which cannot be said about pedestrians.

Frontal blow:

The body has undergone the minimum deformation of the front rack and the deepening of the legs. To control the load and displacement of passengers forward, two -stage airbags and double belt -dwelling pillows were used during impact. These devices, coupled with a strong body, showed a good result, holding the load on the chest cells and the legs of the front riders at a low level. The developers of the Renault Modus car to protect the knees and the upper part of the driver’s legs made a lot of efforts. The recess for the legs was deformed slightly.

Safety of passenger children:

The front passenger airbag can be disabled manually. The burning light on the dashboard is reported about its activity. The manufacturer developed well -thought -out warnings about the danger of installing the children's chair “Against the direction of movement” opposite the pillow and placed them on both sides of the passenger sun visor. Britax Romer Duo Plus, recommended by the manufacturer, used ISOFIX locks and upper mounts. Both children were well protected, although the load on the chest of the elder during the frontal blow was slightly higher than the norm.

Side blow:

The protection system for a lateral blow includes side airbags and curtains for riders of both rows. Maximum points are set for lateral blows and overlap.

Pedestrian safety:

The protection of pedestrians does not correspond to the level of protection of those who sit in the car. Only the impact of the head of an adult was provided by at least some softening. The bumper and the front edge of the hood were especially dangerous.
