Skoda Superb Combi test drive since 2009

Skoda Superb Combi test drive: A rare station wagon

Universals in Russia are not too popular, the station wagons are all the more. But this did not bother marketers from Skoda, and the Czechs announced the start of sales of the new Superb Combi at the Moscow International Auto Show. Kolesa.ru tried to understand who needs such a car, appreciated the giant trunk and offered an alternative to the Czech universal.

Skoda Superb Combi is offered in a single configuration and is sold for 1,289,000 rubles. Equipment is close to the maximum, however, other cars of the same class in the station wagon can be bought much cheaper. True, their top versions can go far beyond the whole Superb Combi framework. So, why does Skoda offer to pay such an amount?

The dimensions of the new Superb Combi 4 838 mm in length, 1,817 mm in width and 1,481 mm in height (without rails). And the cargo compartment is really impressive: in Combi you can place 633 liters of baggage, and if you lower the rear seats, then all 1,865 liters! The width of the rear door allows you to place large -sized cargoes in the trunk, and the low threshold located only 600 mm from the ground will facilitate the loading process.

Another interesting detail of the new Superb Combi installed optionally electric rear door. Another smart part of the luggage compartment of the retractable false floor, which, with an open rear door, moves beyond the rear bumper, allowing you to easily move not dimensions, like a carpet, snowboarding or stack of building materials.

Superb Combi is not an SUV, and in Russian trim levels it does not have all -wheel drive (universals with all -wheel drive are sold in Europe). However, his road clearance is almost 160 mm and will fully allow the country road to the country and not leave traces of the bottom.

Human factor
The driver Superb Combi will definitely like it. Mainly thanks to the gasoline engine 2.0 TSI, which has a capacity of 200 hp. and the maximum torque of 280 nm, available already with 1,700 rpm. The car accelerates smoothly and persistently, like an atmospheric engine of a much larger volume. The station wagon is controlled no worse than the sedan, and in an all -wheel drive version (it has not yet been supplied to Russia) even better.

The Superb Combi chassis is largely unified with the sedan chassis, but additional rubber-metal elements were used in the rear suspension design, which prevent the spread of noise from tires and vibrations from the road.

The spaces in the back row here, in Combi, seems a little more than in the sedan, however, the rear passenger will not be so comfortable here: the roughness of the road is felt a little more distinct than in the sedan.

Competitors: Are there still station wagons?
Not all manufacturers believe in the potential of the D-class universals in the Russian market. Relatively recently, Mazda and Peugeot stopped supplying the Mazda6 universal (read test drives) and Peugeot 407 SW (read test drive) to our market. However, in addition to the related Skoda Volkswagen Passat Variant, there are still cars with a practical body on the market that can compete with Superb Combi.

Ford mondeo station wagon is sold for 957 500 rubles. There can be several engines: 2.0 (145 hp), 2.3 (165 hp), diesel 2.0 (140 hp), 2.0 (200 hp) and 2.0 (260 hp) . The most expensive mondeo station wagon in the Titanium configuration costs 1,256,500 rubles.

Opel Insignia station wagon costs from 917,300 rubles. Under the hood, it may have 5 engines, the weakest of which is 1.6 (115 hp). In addition, 1.6 turbo engines (180 hp), 1.8 (140 hp), 2.0 (220 hp), 2.8 (260 hp) are available. In the richest configuration of Sport, the Opel Insignia station wagon will cost 1,557,300 rubles.

The French competitor Superb Combi Citroen C5 Tourer (read a test drive) can be purchased for 933,000 rubles. There are fewer engines than other competitors only three: 1.6 turbo (150 hp) and two diesel 2.0 (138 hp) and 3.0 (241 hp). The most expensive equipment will cost 1,785,000 rubles.

Competitors: if not a station wagon, then what?
The amount in which Skoda appreciated Superb Combi allows you to think about the abundance of options for what it is better to spend on. Therefore, alternative cars, one of the mandatory advantages of which is a spacious trunk, can be found even outside the framework of the D-Class station wagons.

For the same 1,289,000 rubles, you can purchase a crossover. For example, a 2.5-liter Nissan X-Trail (read a test drive) with an automaton (variator) and in a configuration close to the maximum (airbag, stabilization system, electroregulatory, including sitting, audio system with a CD changer, leather interior, hatch, hatch, hatch Bose audio system, etc.). You can also look at Toyota Rav4 (read test drive), Honda CR-V (read test drive), Peugeot 4007 (read test drive) and other segment cars.

Minivan Volkswagen Touran (read a test drive) in the most expensive configuration of Highline with a 1.4-liter turbo engine will be even cheaper than 1,022,000 rubles. With air conditioning, electric glasses and electric grinders, MP3 radio, front and side airbags, ESP, cruise control, fog lights. True, some interesting devices here have not been included for, for example, the rear parking sensors with the function of the parking autopilot and the rear view camera (13 900 + 8 900 rubles), the navigation system (about 80,000 rubles) and the seven -seater salon (26,700 rubles). In addition, we advise you to pay attention to Mazda5, Ford Grand C-Max (read test drive), Opel Zafira (read test drive) and Renault Scenic.
