VOLVO XC90 test drive since 2007 SUV
Pleasure without overpayment
One and a half million (from 1,488 100 rubles, to be precise), of course, not small. However, it will not be possible to get the large SUV premium at the Russian market at the Russian market. In addition, during operation, you definitely come to a simple and pleasant conclusion, this car costs your money. He is spacious, comfortable, has excellent running qualities, and in addition, he is not too ruined in maintenance. In the course of a long test drive, XC90 did not give a single reason to think differently.Immodest gas stations
Here is a fact: at the beginning of editorial tests, diesel fuel at Moscow gas stations cost less than 20 rubles per liter, at the end of more than 20. And this is wrong! I can still understand when it comes to diesel fuel that meets Euro-4 requirements. It is not a pity to overpay for quality and overpay, and the turbodiesel gratefully demonstrates traction without anguish and economy. Of course, in the capital's conditions, he consumed an average of 9, but 13 liters per 100 km, but this indicator is more than acceptable for a heavy and sufficient fast SUV. But the fact is that the prices for diesel fuel increased almost everywhere, regardless of its quality. And this, from my point of view, is just an unscrupulous robbery.
In Europe, by the way, the difference in prices is not gasoline and diesel fuel is much more noticeable. So it should be, since diesel fuel is initially, in production, cheaper. And for some reason, the diesel fuel is more expensive than the fossil 80, and in retail almost equalized in cost with the 92nd. It must be assumed that from next year, when in Russia, the Euro-3 standards will finally earn in all types of motor fuel, the situation with prices will return to normal. Although I have no doubts about the fact that any fuel will rise in price.
One way or another, and diesel cars are still more profitable in possession. So, on the Volvo XC90 D5 of one 80-liter tank, I had almost 600 km of run, and this is in the conditions of the metropolis.
A moment of acceleration
It’s clear that when we are talking about turbodiesel engines, the first thing we pay attention to the torque. Because it is he who provides the car for accelerating dynamics. So, four hundred NM, available from two thousand revolutions, is enough that in a two -ton SUV you do not feel the last person at starting from a traffic light. XC90 D5 begins the movement very briskly. And 11 seconds to hundreds are quite good for such a machine, but these seconds are folded, it should be noted, not from the start, and since it is necessary to move from one program to another. With a mechanical KP, maintaining turns in the area of \u200b\u200boptimal during an acceleration of 2500 rpm is not difficult.
However, the charm of this diesel moment is that it forces it and to think about the 6-speed automatic transmission quickly. An automatic box paired with such a motor practically gets rid of delay in reactions. As a result, you get a steam locomotive acceleration with barely noticeable jerks if you stubbornly hold the gas pedal pressed to the floor. Moreover, the automatic transmission is adaptive, that is, she understands when to go one two steps down. Thus, even when overtaking on the highway, it is not always necessary to go into manual switching mode, which is also provided. It is only necessary to spur the machine with a pair of sharp presses on the accelerator pedal.
The capacities of 185 forces, which are given by a 2.4-liter engine, are enough to rush quite quickly, at a speed of at least two hundred kilometers per hour. In general, for a person who is not obsessed with public roads, especially family, the potential of a turbodiesel power plant is quite enough. Personally, I felt at the wheel of this car very confidently, and would not say that I especially denied myself.
Another point that is worth paying attention to: vibrations are not felt in the cabin, a characteristic diesel unit does not penetrate into it. Only at high speeds is the sound of the motor and this is no longer a tractor theme, but a confident rumble. Actually, any engine with an odd number of cylinders a priori is considered less balanced. But Volvo has accumulated a lot of experience in this part, and the turbodiesel, in my opinion, turned out to be fame.
A few words about the drive
On the pages of the AI, a lot of AWD is already said a lot of AWD in relation to XC90. Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning it again in connection with the characteristics of the diesel engine. As in the case of powerful gasoline engines that outstand decent torque, the diesel engine makes the transmission actively work. In principle, with uniform movement along the highway, almost the entire power of the power unit is transmitted to the front wheels. And the move is smooth, characteristic more likely for rear -wheel drive cars.
But with a sharp supply of gas, especially on a wet or slippery coating, electronics immediately enter into a business that can immediately transfer most of the moment backward. This whole system is closed to the DSTC stabilization system, which cannot be disabled to the end. That is, AWD, in full accordance with Volvoo philosophy, is configured to safe, and not on an aggressive ride. Even a well -prepared driver is not easy to achieve, for example, a controlled skid. And why? The car was created for other purposes, namely, that its owner simply felt confident enough on any road and in any weather.
It was like, to tell in what situations there was a sliding, and how to deal with it. But about this on the pages of AI was already somehow talking, so I will not once again provoke the reader into ill-conceived experiments. And, on the other hand, I will not deprive him of the pleasure of independently, if necessary, in the intricacies of XC90 behavior. I only note that you should never rely on all -wheel drive and electronic stabilization system in any case. Skills and caution will never hurt. And again: the Volvo XC90 is still a crossover, and not a full -fledged SUV, so I would not recommend storming on it heavy off -road.
XC90 and those who are nearby
As can be seen from the tables, the analytical group of AI counted nine competitors of the Volvo XC90 D5 all with diesel engines, all have more similar characteristics. Although, if we keep in mind the belonging of cars to the so-called premium class, there were only two BMW X5 and Audi Q7 rivals until January 1st of this year. Now Mercedes ML 320 CDI has entered the Russian market (it does not appear in the table because maintenance prices are still being specified). But the class of a car is, you must admit, subtleties. A reasonable buyer always considers all sorts of possibilities, even, say, Mitsubishi Pajero does not compare with xc90 either in terms of comfort or a number of other parameters. So the tables present an almost complete picture.
In a word, there is a choice. I just had to pay attention to the interval interval of 20,000 km for the Volvo XC90 D5. And also for the estimated cost of ownership. It is lower than that of similar BMW and Audi models, but slightly higher than other competitors. However, the sensations that you overpay do not arise: comfort in the cabin, its capacity (5 or 7 seats) and, of course, security all this costs money.
