Wilvo XC70 test drive since 2007

Volvo XC70 VS Volvo XC90

The fight of the D5 diesel with a large gasoline V8 against the background of the Ural mountains and incredible promises ... Yekaterinburg is a wonderful city. He stands on the border of Europe and Asia. But its inhabitants are unhappy with local life.

For this reason, this year he pretty much sank in the ranking of Russian cities, which is compiled by surveys of Aborigines. Volvo decided to help the capital of the Urals correct the image and held there its exit presentation of new engines.

Together with Volvo, representatives of Pirelli and Castrol arrived in Ekata Rinburg. They prettyly cheered the official part of the event. At first, the delegate from the Italian tire concern said: Volvo is so safe that even studded rubber is not needed in winter. Then, on behalf of Castrol, they said that changing oil in the engine on each reinsurance, in fact, it is enough for 40 thousand kilometers. And then the representative of the company Volvo could not hit the mud in his face and boldly produced that the Swedish -made two -hundredth engine of Swedish eating no more than 7.5 liters per hundred. Thus, we were going to drive in cars that do not need tires, butter and fuel. The intrigue was evident.

In captivity of torque
The mileage started under the code name in captivity of torque. The main idea was a comparison of a modest diesel with a large gasoline engine. A strange undertaking, because diesel exists to save, and a multi -liter gasoline unit for crazy races. But everything changes if you put two turbines on a diesel. Then the torque of the five-cylinder diesel is almost compared with the rod of a gasoline V8 420 Nm versus 440. The difference in Newton-meters is minimal, but in acceleration to a hundred is already more noticeable: 8.9 seconds against 7.3.

The large V8, created by Volvo together with Yamaha, has already tried it compact and fast. And he met a diesel engine for the first time and was disappointed with his sound. The diesel should gurgle like a cast -iron chaan in a dining room for street children or like a mud geyser in Kamchatka so that the driver enjoys the calm but confident power that is in this motor. The new Volovsky five -cylinder makes a sound remotely reminiscent of the roar of AMG, wrapped in wet towels. He strangles, heavily, as a gasoline in reduced gear.

The competition with V8 was mutilated. Having set two turbines, the engineers tried to remove the turboyam, but now, when accelerating, he gets into the neighboring ecologists dug. Moreover, their depth is approximately the same, which is especially noticeable on the highway. In the city, Diesel reacts too sharply and nervously to the pedal, which you do not expect from him at all.

V8 won a fight with a large margin. He sounded great, accelerated faster and ate 15 liters per hundred. Exactly the same amount of D5 in hard mode. I am a big fan of a good diesel and always prefer it to other options, but for this he should sound good, not be nervous in the city and, apparently, have a STM button (a third world country), which turns off the environmental nozzle. In the meantime, American values \u200b\u200bhave triumphed over European in the city on the border with Asia.
