With the advent of the Volvo Cars design, British Steve Mattin, who became famous in Mercedes-Benz, XC60 appeared in the Volvo lineup, whose beauty and elegance there is no doubt. A swift silhouette, starting from a heavily littered front rack, ends with a curved stern with elegant lanterns, in which a red ribbon gapes with LED lights. Large 18-inch discs and a predatory front end clearly fit the Volvo XC60 into the premium segment of compact crossovers, in which he became one of the most spectacular representatives, defeating his German competitor.
Inside the Swede is no less elegant than outside: brown-beige leather seats looks expensive and solid. The branded soaring console, trimmed with natural wood and carefully turned to the driver, hints at home comfort. The finishes cannot be held. Ergonomics are also on top. But who guessed to finish the well -stained seats with such slippery skin? With every little sharp turn, the slippery finish strives to throw the passenger’s body from his arms. The dashboard, borrowed from the flagship S80, is informative and presentable. In practice, diesel XC60 has good dynamic characteristics. The automatic transmission smoothly and briskly clicks six steps, providing the Swedish crossover with a pretty decent dynamics. The peak of the torque of the five -cylinder engine falls on a fairly small operating range from 2000 to 2750 rpm. The average driver, by definition, cannot hold all these numbers in the head, so it is quite difficult to support a dynamic movement with frequent braking on the handle. The automatic transmission, on the contrary, remembers all the data and, with the slightest opportunity, goes to an increased step, holding the engine in a piking of power. As a result, urban traffic lights and maneuvering in the stream are pleased.
On the highway, the advantages of the diesel engine are melting before our eyes: when reaching 120-130 km/h, the Volvo XC60 is clearly losing in dynamics, as a result of which high-speed overtaking should be planned in advance. Despite the good sound insulation, at high speeds, the rumble from the noisy diesel engine constantly excites passengers.
The road clearance of 230 mm allows the Swed to storm the courtyard borders and small snowdrifts without problems. The XC60 and light off -road are not contraindicated. As for the off-Road more serious, here the Volvo philosophy is similar to BMW: this car was created primarily for roads. The steering of Volvo sins with a lack of information content, even despite the presence of a system for changing the effort on the steering wheel depending on the speed of movement. But even in sports mode, the steering wheel is barely filled with the necessary effort, and in the turns the driver is forced to actually look for the desired trajectory.
