Long -term test VW Touareg Hybrid: We find out the nature and consider the cost of ownership.

The month during which I was the temporary owner of the VW Touareg hybrid SUV ended. But I will hardly be bored with the most technological Tuareg. Now I'll try to explain why.

The first two weeks in the company with Touareg Hybrid were a clean euphoria from the very fact of the daily operation of the machine with an electric motor. I liked everything in him and therefore I easily converted his oddities in particular and what you want, this is a hybrid!. He forgave him a heavy tread even on chubby winter tires, a slightly phlegmatic riding character, sometimes twitching the hybrid transmission and unusually sharp brakes. Probably, this recovery system works like that, I’ll get used to it, I thought and continued to enjoy life.

However, the more time I spent a hybrid VW Touareg, the more reasons for discontent I had. For example, despite all my efforts, the coveted figure of 8.2 liters of fuel per hundred kilometers of a run on the screen of an on -board computer I never saw. The numbers 9 or at least 10 did not appear on it. The best result that I managed to achieve in a month is 13.2 liters. But what is surprising: it was recorded after a whole day of driving around Moscow and pushing in traffic jams. In such conditions, the hybrid turned out to be the most economical: in a slowly moving stream, it has the opportunity to often jerk a gasoline engine and crawl exclusively on an electric protrusion.

The traditional ICE when driving around the city is generally often left without work: you slightly let go of the gas and move around, and then you see how the tachometer arrow fell by 0. You will save your leg from the accelerator at all, and the hybrid begins to slightly reduce the speed of the recovery system that recruits the battery . You will press again, and after a couple of moments the engine comes to life, the machine rises a couple of gears and the machine begins to accelerate.

But it is here that another drawback of hybrid Tuareg is hiding. The delays in his reactions do not irritate only when the dimensional ride in this case, on the contrary, they seem to seem part of the general green surroundings: do not rush, they say, look at the electricity consumption diagram or observe the effectiveness of the recovery system. However, in the torn rhythm of movement, the stretch of transition processes in a hybrid installation frankly tires: you never know whether you can accelerate at the right time, or first you have to wait until the electronics starts a second time ago, synchronizes its revolutions with the transmission and only then close the clutch. , connecting the motor with the gearbox, and will allow the car to start acceleration.


The capacity of batteries in a 15 -degree frost falls by about a quarter: if under ordinary conditions a hybrid Touareg is able to travel two kilometers on an electric protrusion, then in winter - no more than one and a half. True, this is with the stove and headlights turned on.

The transfer of the transmission into a sports regime, although it adds a hybrid of predictability, does not provide complete understanding with the power plant. You try to accelerate smoothly, slightly crushing the accelerator, and Touareg reacts to this only by a barely noticeable acceleration on the electric protrusion. You will press the gas slightly more sharply forward, calling for the help of the traction of the compressor six.

The same story with the brakes: if you want to stop smoothly at the entrance to the traffic light, but due to the fact that the recovery system in such a situation is trying to use only the brake effect of the electric motor as a generator, the slowdown force is not enough. You click stronger, and the car suddenly pecks abruptly with your nose. As a result, for smooth braking, the force on the brake pedals has to be dose very accurately, and you will relax again a bit again. In general, I am never used to the brakes of the hybrid Tuareg for a whole month.


If you leave the Touareg Hybrid for the night with completely charged batteries, then in the morning it still starts a gasoline engine and does not turn it off until all the nodes that ensure the operation of the power plant, including the heating system of the batteries.

However, the overall level of comfort of hybrid tuareg is very high. Double side glasses, good sound insulation of wheeled arches and a motor compartment, comfortable air suspension and a complete absence of vibrations from the power plant. The gasoline engine most often or inaudibly rumbling at low speeds (that it works usually can only be understood by the position of the tachometer arrows), or it is generally resting, and the steering wheel power power steering is great filtering information about the condition of the road surface.

Yes, and the hybrid is controlled well. Some in the reactions, traditional for heavy cars with a high center of masses, is also present here, but this only adds a hybrid to a sense of status. An adaptive suspension with sports settings is installed on the hybrid VW Touareg. Moreover, the driver can regulate both the rigidity of the shock absorbers and the height of the body independently of each other.

On the dashboard, between the speedometer and the tachometer, there is a large LCD display on which information can be displayed to your liking: the on-board computer, navigation tips or compass.

But these are all emotions, but how are things with practicality? How much more profitable or vice versa, the hybrid VW Touareg is more expensive in everyday use compared to the usual SUV? As it turned out, not more expensive.

The cost of the first three visits to the dealer for planned maintenance does not differ from the cost for a machine with a gasoline engine V6. The first will cost about 11 thousand rubles, the second is a little more expensive than 20 thousand rubles, the third again at 11 thousand. The thing is that up to 60 thousand kilometers of mileage, a hybrid installation does not require additional maintenance or repair. The frequency is the same as on a car with a gasoline engine: once every 15 thousand kilometers or once a year, depending on what will come earlier.

The most expensive to the owner of the hybrid will cost TO-4, just 60 thousand mileage of 40 thousand rubles, which is about a third more than the owner of an ordinary car. This is due to the planned prevention of the battery and electrical equipment of the hybrid installation.

The cost of the Normal Council for Touareg Hybrid also does not differ from the price for cars with a traditional ICE. However, it is necessary to serve such a car at specialized stations: trained personnel will be able to first de -energize the high -voltage power plant, and only then proceed with the maintenance or repair of the car.


The quality of materials and the study of parts in VW Touareg is excellent. Nice rough plastic, aluminum. Moreover, the iron finish of the cabin can be ordered for a regular SUV.

Other expenses of the owner of the hybrid Tuareg waiting for him in the first year after buying a new car, we brought to the table. According to tradition, to calculate the cost of insurance, we used an average driver over 22 years with driving experience for more than three years living in Moscow. The price of the CASCO policy was taken by the average market (range from 100 to 180 thousand rubles, but the largest number of offers account for 120-140 thousand rubles). The calculated mileage is 20 thousand kilometers per year, the average fuel consumption is 15 liters per hundred kilometers, AI-95 gasoline at a price of 29 rubles per liter.

Not cheap? So the car is notable: the test VW Touareg Hybrid costs almost 3.5 million rubles! At the same time, environmentally friendly tuars do not have direct competitors. Is there an alternative to him? Let's see.

Lexus RX 450h
The first truly massive crossover with a hybrid power plant. It is more compact to the Tuareg and equipped with a six -cylinder engine 3.5 and a brandedless unavailable transmission Lexus Hybrid Drive (or Hybrid Synergy Drive, if we are talking about Toyota cars) with a planetary transmission, which can combine the moment from the traction electric motor and the internal combustion engine in any proportions. In Russia, Lexus has been sold for a long time and is available in three basic modifications at a price of 2.97 to 3.3 million rubles. If we consider only the price, then it can be considered the main competitor of Tuareg.

Audi Q5 Hybrid
The latest representative of hybrid crossovers, who appeared in Russia only in February this year. The power plant here is almost the same, only a smaller gasoline engine: a two-liter boost of a four with a capacity of 200 forces and a 45-horsepower electric motor, plus an eight-speed automatic. Exclusively in the electric trustees, Hybridi Audi is capable of driving about three kilometers, and the declared average fuel consumption is 6.9 liters per hundred kilometers of mileage.

Prices for such a car in Russia start from 2.565 million rubles. True, for this amount, the buyer receives a completely packaged car with a navigation system, climate control, leather salon and so on.

Cadillac Escalade Hybrid
The largest hybrid SUV, available in the Russian market. Almost three -ton colossus more than five meters is equipped with an eight -cylinder six -liter engine and an electric motor, however, by total power, the power plant loses toilegu: only 332 horsepower. Built on the same platform, and equipped with the same power plant as Touareg Hybrid, the hybrid Porsche Cayenne costs 4.45 million rubles more than its fellow. At the same time, if you choose a few more pleasant options, such as the hatch in the roof, the color of metallic or the rear view chamber, then the price of the Porsche hybrid will easily get to the mark of five million rubles.

For this money, the owner receives a different appearance, more drivership settings of the chassis and radically different in design and quality of the salon.


It is difficult to say how successful the fate of the hybrid Tuareg in Russia will be. Folkswagen's car turned out too ambiguous. Comfortable and in some ways even status, but with a strange riding character and not so economical as you involuntarily expect a hybrid in the name of the car in the name.


At a stop with a completely charged battery, the tuareg turns off the gasoline engine and is in complete silence - it is only audible how the climate installation electric fan works.

However, a failed Touareg Hybrid sales experiment in Russia can no longer be called in Russia in Russia 15 such cars were sold. And this despite the fact that not all Volkswagen dealers in Russia can trade hybrids.
