Test drive Volkswagen Touareg 2007 - 2010 SUV
Heir to the throne
The first in the history of the Volkswagen concern was the SUV is extremely successful. The designers managed to find a balance between comfort, handling, dynamics and cross -country ability. Since 2002, more than 300 thousand copies of Volkswagen Touareg have been sold. But today, the competition in the segment of prestigious SUVs is very acute, the automakers are not standing still.Without waiting for the demand to fall, Volkswagen presented the new generation of Touareg in 2007. Outwardly, the heir has changed slightly, but at the same time surpasses his predecessor in all respects.
In front, the car differs primarily primarily by headlights (to choose from bixenon or adaptive), bumpers, a radiator grill and rear view mirrors. The changes did not bypass the back of the body: a new spoiler on the roof appeared (which made it possible to improve the aerodynamic characteristics of the car), LED stopping and reverse lamps. In addition, designers gave a more dynamic shape the exhaust pipes of the machine.
There are few changes in the cabin: another combination of devices, the size of the information display was increased, the top version received seats from Volkswagen Phaeton.
In terms of dimensions (length 4754 mm, width 1928 mm, height 1726 mm, base 2855 mm) Touareg belongs to the segment of the middle class SUVs. At the same time, and this characterizes the concept as a whole, the latest generation Touareg is noticeably lower than most of its competitors, which gives it to their background a very dynamic and elegant appearance. The height of the Touareg salon corresponds to the car class. Moreover, the spatial indicators of the cabin meet the most stringent standards, and the luggage compartment with a capacity of 555 to 1570 liters (with a double climatic installation: from 500 to 1525 l) is easy to transform for more rational placement of luggage. Convenient access to the trunk is provided by a large back door with glass opening regardless of it. The door of the rear compartment is unlocking using an electromechanical drive, and closing facilitates the installed additionally the closer.
Like the predecessor, the new Touareg has good patency. The front and rear overhangs of the body make up 926 and 973 mm, respectively, which gives the overhang angles in 28.4 in front and 28.1 behind (with pneumatic suspension: 33.2 in the back) good for modern multi -purpose SUV corners. Thanks to such technical solutions as a triple door compaction system, waterproof headlights, hermetic electric connectors, a special air intake design, ventilation ventilation and good seals of the semi -shafts, the machine is able to overcome water barriers up to 500 mm deep (with a pneumatic suspension of 580 mm).
The design of a fully galvanized Touareg body is characterized by static and dynamic rigidity. Speaking of the first indicator, it is necessary to note the highest rigidity for twisting and uniform distribution of load along the entire structure of the car body. These criteria determine the optimal characteristics of the chassis.
A very good indicator also has the dynamic hardness of the body for twisting 40 Hz. This is a factor that causes a low degree of vibration and a high level of car comfort during movement. Such stiffness was achieved largely due to the use of modern technologies for connecting parts, such as laser welding and soldering.
However, under the shiny paintwork of the Touareg case, not only steel is hidden. For example, the front wing is made of plastic material that is distinguished by flexibility and wide use of use in various fields. Thanks to the two -layer structure, the plastic wing preserves the shape well. And for the manufacture of the bumper, a heat -resistant and very strong plastic was used, which withstands heating, caused by heat radiation from a motor compartment or from exhaust pipes. In addition, the composition of the plastic includes a special component that gives the material a special plasticity. Therefore, the bumper is able to restore the original form after the deformation that arose due to the impact on the obstacle. The hood made of aluminum not only weighs less, but also has favorable deformation parameters for impact.
For the transport of sports equipment, luggage containers and other Touareg roof luggles are provided with C-shaped guides from aluminum profiles (included in the basic configuration). To solve the problem of transportation of heavy cargo will allow a traction-lord device. If it is available, Touareg is able to tow a trailer weighing up to 3500 kg (equipped with brakes). The traction-lord device can be either removable or automatic, by pressing the control button, the ball hitch is lowered from under the rear bumper, unfolds into the desired position and is reliably fixed.
T ouareg with V8 FSI and W12 engines are already equipped with short and high lights (bixenon) xenon headlights with dynamic corrector and optics. The system of dynamic and static adaptive lighting is integrated into the system of these headlights. For all other Touareg options, bixenon headlights are offered as additional equipment.
The line of power units includes three gasoline and three diesel engines.
Touareg was the first car of the Volkswagen brand to receive a new V8 FSI engine (350 hp). This power unit (with a collapse angle of 90) gives 257 kW/350 hp, develops a maximum torque of 440 nm (at 3500 rpm) and accelerates the machine to the maximum 244 km/h. The step below in the power line is another gasoline engine with direct injection: V6 FSI at 206 kW/280 hp, similar in design with the V8 FSI. According to the Volkswagen Individual program, the latest generation Touareg cars are also equipped with a 331 kW/450 liter super -powerful engine/450 liter. With.
The eight -cylinder gasoline engine with direct injection is aggregated on Touareg with a six -speed automatic gearbox (automatic transmission). Touareg V8 FSI accelerates from place to 100 km/h in just 7.5 s. If, with a conventional suspension, the maximum speed of the SUV is 234 km/h, then with pneumatic it reaches 244 km/h due to the fact that at high speed such a suspension lower the body lower, reducing its aerodynamic resistance. The average fuel consumption is 13.8 liters. Compared to the predecessor of the V8 FSI, with equal working volume, it develops higher power and, moreover, per 100 km, it requires 1 liter less fuel.
The operating volume of the V6 FSI 3 597 cubic meters. cm, maximum torque 360 \u200b\u200bnm at 2500-5000 rpm. A six -cylinder power unit of 280 horses with 4 valves per cylinder (maximum power at 6250 rpm) accelerates Touareg from a place of up to 100 km/h in just 8.6 s. Touareg V6 FSI develops at a pneumatic suspension (option) maximum speed 227 km/h, it is equipped with only a six -speed automatic transmission (maximum speed when suspension on steel springs is 218 km/h). The average fuel consumption is 13.3 liters.
The Volkswagen Individual unit has created the only SUV in the world with a 12-cylinder gasoline engine: Touareg W12 with a capacity of 331 kW/450 hp. Such a car accelerates from a place to 100 km/h for 5.9 s, and its maximum speed is limited by electronics and is 250 km/h.
Even the youngest of diesel engines with direct injection tells the machine a frisky dynamics: acceleration from a place to 100 km/h is given to the new Touareg TDI for only 11.5 s (with a six -speed automatic transmission 11.6 s). Equipped in the basic configuration with a standard suspension, the SUV is able to accelerate on the highway to 188 km/h (with automatic transmission to 183 km/h), and with a pneumatic suspension to 194 km/h (with automatic transmission to 189 km/h). The maximum torque of 400 nm this in a folding five -cylinder engine develops at 2250 rpm. Fuel consumption is only 10.1 liters (at an automatic transmission of 10.4 l).
Third-generation direct injection technology of the third-generation of Common-Rail is distinguished by a six-cylinder power unit with four valves per cylinder. Thanks to piezoforms, injection pressure reaches 1600 bar. The maximum torque of 500 Nm the engine develops at 1750 rpm. Sprint acceleration from a place up to 100 km/h occupies from Touareg V6 TDI only 8.9 s (with automatic transmission 9.2 s). The maximum speed in the basic configuration (a mechanical gearbox (PMPP), standard suspension) is 205 km/h, and with a pneumatic suspension of 212 km/h (with manual transmission). At the same time, 10.4 liters of fuel per 100 km are consumed on average. With a six -speed automatic transmission, Touareg V6 TDI is able to develop a speed of 202 km/h, with a pneumatic suspension, respectively, 209 km/h.
Touareg is equipped with a technically complex chassis with an independent wheel suspension, which gives it magnificent running qualities both on asphalt and off -road. Suspension of front wheels on double transverse levers with upper aluminum and lower steel levers. The rear suspension is also on double transverse levers with forged aluminum upper and triangular steel lower levers. The track is 1649 mm in front and 1661 mm behind. The maximum trim Touareg with a suspension on steel springs is 237 mm.
As an additional option (on options with the W12 engine in the basic configuration), Touareg is equipped with a pneumatic suspension with automatic clearance adjustment and electronic adjustment of the rigidity of shock absorbers. In this case, the maximum road clearance increases to 300 mm. When driving along road roads, the pneumatic suspension provides an exceptional level of comfort and, thanks to a two -stage automatic decrease in road clearance, depending on speed, dynamic qualities at the level of sports machines. On the off -road, the pneumatic suspension increases the cross -country ability by changing clearance.
In Auto LEVEL, used mainly when driving along the highway, the clearance is automatically regulated depending on the speed of movement. To improve traction-dynamic indicators at a speed of 125 km/h, the car body drops from 215 mm to 190 mm above the road. When the speed reaches 180 km/h, 180 mm clearance is automatically tuned. In addition, there is the possibility of manually choosing a level. Automatically, the case of the machine rises and is also lowered in Offroad LEVEL mode, which is mainly on off -road.
Touareg combines suitability for operation in difficult conditions of off -road with the comfort of the upper middle class sedan and impressive sports qualities. Until now, a special sports dynamics could be given by Touareg using a sports chassis, which was offered as additional equipment only for options with a suspension on steel springs. Now a sports chassis has appeared for models with a pneumatic suspension. At the same time, in the Driving Dynamics configuration package with a roll compensation and a 20 mm landing of the body, the existing Sport Pneumatic suspension mode is supplemented by another, more rigid, degree of shock absorbers. The increase in dynamics and safety is provided, among other things, enhanced reptile stability stabilizers, adjustable depending on the angle of rotation of the steering wheel of shock absorbers, modified pneumatic suspension and new software. In KomFort mode, a car with a sports chassis retained the same level of comfort, as in the usual chassis. Three stages of adjustment are offered to choose from the driver: Auto, Komfort and Sport.
The reliability of the Touareg braking is provided by the disk brake mechanisms with fixed calipers and ventilated disks on all wheels, as well as the latest generation system ESP and the EBV electronic distribution system (EBV), which are included in the basic configuration.
Twisting the moment from the power unit is transmitted to the Touareg wheels through the 4Motion permanent all -wheel drive system, which provides not only passability in off -road, but also a high level of security and dynamics when moving along the highway. The stream of power enters the drive wheels through the handout with the undercutal differentials on the front and posterior axes already in the basic configuration. For an additional fee on the rear axle, a blocked inter -long differential is installed, while the central interdose differential has a locking mechanism already in the basic configuration. The electronics of the chassis are freely controlled by the smoothly adjustable multi -disc clusion of the central differential. At the same time, the proportion of the torque, summed up to one axis, can reach 100% (differential lock mechanisms are regulated primarily for the torque of the engine, and in the second one according to the wheel slipping). In addition, there is a regulator on the central console to manually turn on differential locks (up to 100%). In this case, automatic adjustment is temporarily turned off. The accurate distribution of torque through the wheels is facilitated by the four -wheeled EDS system (electronic differential blocking).
Significant advantages of the 4Motion all -wheel drive manifest themselves on roads with a solid coating. AT normal conditions under a dry road, uniform adhesion of the wheels with a roadbed and constant engine power, all -wheel drive provides an uniform (50:50) distribution of torque between the front and rear axles. When one of the wheels falls on the wet section of the road or breaks into aquaplaning, the power flow is redirected, if necessary, then 100% through a multi -disc boot of the central differential blocking to the wheels of the axis that has a better clutch.
Thus, all -drive equally favorably affects both the dynamics of the car and its active safety: Touareg demonstrates handling at the level of sedans of the upper middle class, obeys the driver well and retains stability in corners even under adverse movement conditions.
On off -road, the 4Motion all -wheel drive fully reveals its potential, giving the car the necessary traction even in the most difficult conditions. In addition, the Touareg basic package includes a central differential blocking and a reduction in a series of transmission. This allows the car, for example, to conquer the rises of 100% steepness (45).
To turn on the lowering row, the driver is enough to turn the Auto Diff regulator from the High position to the Low position located on the central console. The blocking of the central differential is automatically turned on when the wheels of one axis of the clutch with the road surface are lost. However, this can be done manually by turning the corresponding regulator to the required value (up to 100%). Similarly, the rear interventor differential lock installed for an additional fee.
Even the most modest Touareg options with V6 FSI, TDI and V6 TDI engines have a rich basic package. It includes: two -zone Climatronic, heating the front seats with a vanity adjustment, the lighting function in the daytime (disconnected), sports alloy wheels 235/65 R17. Radio with built-in CD player and ten speakers, external rear-view mirrors with folding functions, heating adjustment, electric front and rear windows, adjusting the height and departure of the steering column, control buttons on a leather steering wheel, multifunctional display (MFA) and a central locking with Remote control allow the car to comply with modern ideas about comfort.
The basic version of the Touareg V8 FSI is equipped with everything listed by such exclusive equipment such as the seats of increased comfort with Cricket leather upholstery, xenon adaptive headlights with the washer, covered with a skin lever of a six -speed automatic transmission, automatic climatic installation (Climatronic) with separate binoline control, scheduled. Front seats with lumbar underputs and a 12-position electroregulation, GRA cruise control, automatic lighting control with the COMING HOME function and rain sensor. The 18-inch Fat Boy wheels with the tires of the size of 255/55 R18 is installed on this version.
Also, for luxury lovers, Volkswagen Individual’s luxury has prepared exclusive versions of Touareg, including the sports modification of R-Line.
So, the new generation Touareg significantly exceeds its predecessor in all basic parameters, while the cost of the machine has almost no increased.
The capabilities of the named car are truly limitless, which clearly confirmed the experiment conducted in England. The designers decided to check whether it was possible to use Touareg as an aerodrome tractor. Boeing-747 was attached to the standard Touareg traction-linked device through the transition device, and the experiment began. The engineers calculated in advance that with the maximum torque of the V10 TDI (750 Nm) and the transmission of Touareg transmission is capable of moving a load weighing about 200 tons from a place, but is it possible to rely on the calculations when a machine is 1.70 m high and 4.75 length m will have to tow a 70-meter plane, and even in truly English weather: with heavy rain and oncoming wind, as if the beans of heaven have opened?
But Touareg did not fail. This is how the tests took place. The Volkswagen mechanic Uwe Krighof gets behind the wheel and starts the motor. It sets the regulator of all -wheel drive on LOW, that is, on a lower gear. Now 50% of the torque is fed to the front axle, and the same amount to the back. The driver manually includes a second gear on the automatic transmission, gradually adds gas and mentally imagines how all 18 wheels of Boeing, each height per person, is about to move off and pour 155-ton plane on concrete. It is in these few seconds that the maximum traction is required, because the most difficult thing is to make the aircraft overcome the forces of inertia and begin movement. But while all activity is concentrated in the engine of its turnover increase. Krieghof is even stronger, up to half, presses the gas pedal, and the Touareg touches the slip of the place without any hint of the slip and pulls the wide -body liner. After 150 m, the driver presses the brake, and the road train stops. The subsequent Touareg test showed that after the experiment there was no damage.
In Russia, versions with V6 3.6 FSI, V8 4.2 FSI, V6 3.0 TDI and R5 TDI engines are still available.
Estimated cost from 1.4 million to 2.22 million rubles. Depending on the configuration.
