Test Drive Volkswagen Passat Alltrack since 2012 Wagon

Piece of cake

Long-term VW Passat Alltrack wagon test.

In the Volkswagen model range, there are quite a few off-road cars: there is also a compact crossover Tiguan, and a large Touareg SUV. And for real fanatics, the Germans made a real Pickup Amarok. So why did they need another model of increased versatility VW Passat Alltrack universal? To understand this, we settled all-stroke in our garage for a month.

If we were the rating of the most boring family cars, then the usual VW Passat with the body of the universal would probably have at least ten finalists. The uncomplicated profile, which seems to have painted under the slogan of 200 percent of practicality, Kiguzaya, almost a vertical back door in the exterior of the trade wind, there is probably not a single bright detail. The massive body resting on the wheels of the modest (in Russia) of the dimension of 16 inches does not call neither elegant or so beautiful.

Six Differences Passat AllTrack from Passat Variant

1. Front bumper; 2. Wheel discs; 3. Pads on the thresholds; 4. Enlarged ground clearance; 5. Special interior decoration with alltrack logos; 6. Rear bumper.

But Passat AllTrack on the background of a civil wagon almost superhero from the militant! In front of the powerful jaw of the protective lining on the front bumper, on sides of the embossed wheeled arches and thresholds, closed with gray plastic, and trust this appearance of massive 18-inch wheels with wide tires of dimension 225/45. Plus, increased by three centimeters (compared to the usual shed without the suspension adapted for Russia) road clearance up to 165 millimeters. This, of course, is not very much, but for confident ride on most Russian roads, even country, grabs with a margin.

Off-road Arsenal VW Passat Alltrack sufficiently zuda: four-wheel drive, enlarged clearance and Offroad button on the center console, which dulls the motor reaction to move the gas pedal, but activates the assistant on the descent

In Russia, VW Passat Alltrack is available in a single, but rather rich configuration: with a two-liter gasoline turbo engine with a capacity of 211 horsepower, Haldex all-wheel drive transmission and a six-speed DSG robot. The basic equipment is not bad: a separate climate and music with 8 speakers and support mp3 are also included in the package of the most affordable All-Strack, and the rain sensors, the stabilization system and the full set of electric drives. Even before the New Year, all this pleasure was quite acceptable from 1.491 million rubles, which is comparable to well-equipped Korean compact crossovers, or even VW Tiguan.

That's just Ottrek much more and more practical than any pseudo-road for the same money.

Machines 2013 of the model year went up to 1,529 million rubles. In addition, this is not a final price: the cost of VW Passat Alltrack is easy to increase almost to two million rubles. The leather decoration of the cabin will add to the price of 100 thousand rubles, the navigation system of 86 thousand, active bi-xenon headlights for another 50. You will have to pay extra for 18-inch wheels (nine thousand rubles), for the headquarter (36 thousand), for the electric drive of the driver's seat with the settings memory ( 35 thousand) and even for a rear view camera (17 thousand rubles)

First, the Passat Alltrack is just a huge trunk, the volume of which varies from 588 liters when the rear seats raised backs are up to 1716 liters with folded. The depth of the cargo compartment is so great that among the options for the wagon there is a special shelf on the rails, with which it is convenient to fit heavy to the seat backs. And if you need to carry a refrigerator with a TV or a set of equipment for a small kitchen, then the best candidate for the replacement of gazelles is probably not found.

Secondly, AllTrack, however,, like any other VW Passat wagon, is very spacious inside. The wheelbase has 10 centimeters more than that of the same VW Tiguan, so the rear passengers here are unlikely to complain about the lack of place for the legs or on the tightness.

1. Interior is almost indistinguishable from a regular trade wind. The same verified ergonomics, solid materials finish and very high quality assembly.
2. The seat with the combined electro-mechanical adjustment is almost perfect: dense, comfortable and well fix the body in turns.
3. For some reason, the sofa is molded for two. But the places for the legs here more than enough. It is a pity only, no heating.
4. Using DSG is the only transmission option for Passat AllTrack. Although the usual hydromechanical automaton would come out with this universal.
5. 4Motion shall not allow you to forget that in front of you is a real all-wheel drive car.
6. The stitching clock looks slightly simple, but it is very convenient to use them.
7. For the launch of the motor, the keychain key must be inserted into the slot on the front panel and dried slightly.

Finally, allTrack is not just the only all-wheel drive barn in the range of VW Passat, it is also the most powerful and fastest. From the spot until hundreds, he accelerates the impressive 7.8 seconds, and in winter its dynamics is still brighter! It is necessary only not to be shy to turn off the anti-slip system and then Ottrek will accelerate with a pressure of a small wedge, even in deep snowy caress. Otherwise, the tight-tuned electronics will noticeably sew a motor when accelerated on slippery coating, leaving the driver without traction at the most inopportune moment.

And most importantly, the driver of the Passat Alltrack driver does not feel like a truck driver, as in most SUVs and crossovers.

Agricultural landing, passenger driving habits: accurate reactions to the steering wheel, barely noticeable rolls. True, the suspension at first glance seems harsh. Passive passive shock absorbers (in Europe, AllTrack is completed with a suspension with a variable rigidity) too thoroughly work out fine irregularities and tapping onto the hub when driving large holes. But the energy intensity is good: before lying police, you can not even slow down.

Immediately after the start of movement in the frost under -20, the DSG robot switches the transmissions with noticeable shocks. However, after a few minutes, warming up, he again begins to change the steps almost imperceptibly

It is good and a six-speed DSG robot with a pair of wet clutches. It is traditionally unwitting in Drive mode and a bit nervous in long traffic jams, which is expressed by twitching when moving on ultra-low speeds and jerseys when switching from 1 to 2 level and back. But in Sport mode, its reactions are almost perfect. There are in our car and stealing petals with the possibility of manual change of gear, but, to be honest, this thing is completely useless: Having tried a couple of times for the interest of choosing the transfer yourself, then I only used the automatic sport mode.

In fact, Ottrek would quite fit the traditional hydromechanical automaton. But so far only a robot is provided for this model. But maybe it is for the better? Because with the classic automatic transmission, our universal would probably become even more voracious, and he will not refuse him in the absence of appetite! With a calm ride in Moscow, the real fuel consumption was 12-13 liters per hundred kilometers of run, and it was worth a slightly increase pace, then this figure rose to 14-15 liters per hundred. But it is in winter, in frost

With the Passat Alltrack, Volkswagen's brand wants to bite off his piece of cake called the wagon wagon. Moreover, the competition in this segment (formally, the D-class) is still quite weak: until the appearance of All-Strak here, the Volvo XC70, which occupies the main market share. And in the class below the unconditional leader Skoda Octavia Scout

And yet it is good that Passat Alltrack got into our garage at the coldest season. According to the first impressions, this wagon is an excellent winter partner! Big, comfortable, with a powerful engine and excellent full drive system. With its massive bumper, Ottrek confidently pierces small drifts, and then easily selected from the snow captivity. Of course, there is a merit and good tires in this: a test car was wound in a Nokian HakkaPellitta 7 sip.

In the twenty-degree frosts VW Passat Alltrack started without any problems, quickly warming the salon, and heated the seats began to spy the back after several minutes of operation at full capacity. That's just the motor on the cold works noisy. And one frost morning after starting the engine on the tidy, a warning of low oil pressure appeared on the tidy, which was lost in a minute. The next morning it appeared again. Looks like you have to call dealer

Highly sit?
All Russian trade winds are equipped with a package for bad roads already in the database, and therefore have a road clearance of 165 millimeters - the same as the Passat Alltrack.

354 thousand rubles
- In such a sum, the cost of the test car was different from the price of basic Al Strack

Is there a clearance?
For comparison, the magnitude of the road lumen at the Volvo XC70 is 210 millimeters, and Skoda Octavia Scout, which has already left the Russian market, clearance was equal to 179 millimeters.
