Attempts to complete domestic vehicles with imported power units inflated the price almost by half, reducing consumer interest and nullifying the rest of the advantages.
Therefore, having received news from Ulyanovsk about the opportunity to try out cars with diesel engines - domestic ZMZ -514 and Polish Andria 4ST90 in comparison with serial gasoline ZMZ -409 - we immediately went on a business trip.
From theory to practice
Bright sunny morning lined up on a picturesque hill near the local cross route. The UAZ 31514-10 and UAZ 31608 with the domestic turbodiesel ZMZ-514, UAZ 315123 with the Polish 4ST90 Andria and UAZ 315195 with the ZMZ-409 gasoline engine were provided to our disposal. The process of laying the test route and a demonstration of the capabilities of the car on the slopes of the forest, covered with a 50-70-centimeter layer of snow, made a strong impression. Still, because at the wheel, the head of the factory testing center with enormous experience of off -road driving and madly in love with his native UAZ. The outer ease turned out to be deceiving - from the first meters of an independent trip you understand that these cars are created for real men. Managing them is not easy, but all the more pleasure. Fluffy branches of pines over small meadows, sparkling in the sun, virgin snow attracted to themselves, as if offering to relax at the hot fire and enjoy the surrounding beauty under the cup ... tea and thread of a fragrant barbecue. But work is in the first place.
Having robbed the slopes of the nearest hills, we move to the route of resource tests - along the rifs along the edge of a huge field. This is already a plain, but also off -road, with dense night snow. The fact that tests are held here are testified by deep hard ruts. The highway is heavy and insidious, does not forgive hotness and fuss. An experienced test driver rarely lips the car out of the rut, but, having made such a mistake, in most cases it selects on its own, without even leaving the cabin, by skillful downloading of the car without a wheel slipping. Inexperienced - at best, is forced to work with a shovel.
We complete testing by comparing the dynamic qualities of cars already at dusk on a frozen, but dry asphalt highway Ulyanovsk-Sizran. It would be incorrect to conduct your own measurements on public road - you need a landfill and plus temperature. Those who do not trust new -fangled technical solutions, who are used to doing without car services and, in addition, are not often chosen on even asphalt, should pay attention to Andria. The atmospheric diesel proven for years promises to behave quite predictably, since it is unpretentious to fuel and maintenance. On off -road, he will not require special skill from the driver and forgive him a number of errors in working with the gas pedal. But on the UAZ 315123 highway with its four -speed box will not show miracles - it is better not to think about speed and economy.
Adherents of progress, sometimes moving from asphalt to the ground, of course, will look closely at cars with ZMZ-514. However, we remind - the motor, let's say, is young and inexperienced: no one knows how he will behave in operation. But if such difficulties do not bother you, then the reward will be good dynamics and high fuel economy in traveling in highways. In off -road exercises, he is still inferior to the Pole.
Those who are afraid of winter problems with diesel fuel and, besides, do not expect to constantly ride on the road, remains to rely on the power and reliability of the ZMZ-409 of the ZALZH engine. The engine is serial, the bulk of children's problems is solved, and the dynamics of the machine at the level. Of the shortcomings, we note, of course, the worst fuel economy - both the consumption is higher and gasoline is more expensive than diesel fuel.
