Review of cars of the new Subaru Legacy family. All for a comfortable journey

Subaru Legacy meets his twentieth anniversary with a radical change in the image. New equipment, new design what is behind all this? About this our review of the new car in three versions.

Japanese Grand Turism
In my opinion, from all Japanese cars it is Subaru Legacy that is most suitable for the title of Grand Turism, i.e. Car of increased comfort with excellent performance. For various reviews, I have already rolled over a thousand kilometers on Legacy of different generations, and each test drive invariably delights me: a miracle machine!
New generation Legacy Fifth in a row. This time, the line was replenished with the Touring Wagon universal, which compiled the company B4 Sedan and the Outback crossover, which also represented in a new look. It makes no sense to list all the changes that affected cars here, such a list would take a whole page. The purpose of this article is different: a laconic realistic portrait of an updated Legacy family.
At the Car Do Subaru Mitaka site, five cars of each type of body were prepared for a test drive. I immediately noted that from the previous generation, cars are strikingly different in dimensions, design and, in general, some new charisma. In addition, Legacy seemed to become more American, which is not surprising, because the main market of Legacy North America. It is expected that there will be sold twice as many cars than in Japan.
For testing, I chose three cars: Touring Wagon 2.5gt S Package, Outback 3.6R and B4 2.5I L PACKAGE. I decided to start with the Touring Wagon, and went towards the main destination to Lake Kawaguti. 2.5GT S PACKAGE is the strongest equipment of the Touring Wagon, equipped with a 4-cylinder horizontal-optical engine with a turbocharger and sports shock absorbers of Bilstein. Her exterior is decorated with 18-inch wheels with rubber configuration 225/45R18. The interior is pleased with the finish for carbon.

The most interesting model?
Sitting in the driver's seat (which, incidentally, became higher compared to the previous generation), I pressed the engine start button. The pride of Subaru the four -cylinder opposition motor woke up. I practically did not hear the noise during idle, I almost did not feel vibration either. In the new Legacy Motor (along with the transmission, front suspension and steering system), it is mounted on the subframe of the new design. Thus, the noise and vibration of the power unit is practically not transmitted to the body. In the cabin, it is quiet not only during the idle course of the motor, but also during the ride.
The suspension, which received excellent Bilstein shock absorbers, demonstrated its magnificent properties in motion. On the even coating, the smoothness of the movement surpassed my already high expectations. But with the obstacles of the dirt road, the suspension coped perfectly, easily smoothing all the irregularities. Having left on the highway, I was even scared how smoothly the car flew. Fans of long -distance travel will certainly appreciate this feature. Unfortunately, it was not possible to properly test the car in corners. What nevertheless managed to understand. With a slight turn, the electric power amplifier gives a slightly unnatural sensation, but I, in principle, liked it. 2.5GT S PACKAGE is an impeccable car that combines comfort and a relaxed driving manner in a wonderful proportion.
A 2.5-liter engine with a turbocharger deserves a separate mention. This is a very reliable apparatus, the effectiveness of which is noticeable both at low speed and high. Among its distinctive features is a surprisingly smooth speed set, a long torque shelf and a low noise level characteristic of the opposition engine. Active lovers such a motor may seem too flexible, but, you see, its dignity is evident. As for the five -speed automatic transmission, in a short time the walk was noticed with her - everything works smoothly and confidently.

3.6 liters is it necessary?
Near the destination, I am transplanted to Subaru Outback 3.6R. I immediately notice the difference in the operation of the engines. Outback is equipped with a 3.6-liter 6-cylinder engine without a boost, which differs from the Touring Wagon engine with a faster (but not sharp!) Reaction. Such a motor will no doubt evaluate American volitions, but in my opinion, Outback would organically fit into Japanese reality with a more modest engine from Touring Wagon 2.5GT.
The minimum road clearance of Outback 3.6R is relatively high, however, getting on an uneven coating or in a fluent slush, you involuntarily remember that you are only in a car. However, the inconvenience is somewhat compensated due to the all -wheel drive and an increase in the clearance by 20 mm.
Yes, you should mention the cool interior Touring Wagon and Outback. The rear passengers will notice that there are so many legs that you can freely put your feet on your leg, and you can just forget about the ceiling so high. The tilt of the back seats is regulated, which is also great. The depth of the trunk decreased slightly, but at the same time it became wider and higher. In general, the trunk volume increased by 61 liters and now amounts to 520 liters. And with folded rear seats, the trunk regiment easily hides under the floor smartly, isn't it?

The matured Legacy
Finally, the queue reached B4 2.5i L Package. The focus of attention is a new power unit: an engine (4-cylinder SOHC with a volume of 2.5 liters, without boost) and a transmission (variator of Lineartronic). Lineartronic is the same ordinary modern variator, only a little smarter it takes into account the position of the brake pedal and accelerator. Like any variator, it works very quietly. As for the engine, its operational qualities of complaints do not cause both in the city and on a high -speed highway. In general, the Sports equipment S Package made the impression of the most comfortable driving.
Having swept about eight hours, I returned to the starting area. The journey was not so big, but it showed that all three cars are ideal for long trips. I was especially conquered by the Touring Wagon 2.5gt S Package model on this car, I would like to go somewhere far, far away right now. Well, about the other two tested models I can say that they grew into a class compared to the previous generation and, without a doubt, will not leave indifferent the one who is in search of a powerful and convenient car.
Only one thing embarrasses in all this: an increase in the dimensions of the body and engine volume. This does not correspond to the trends of time, at least for Japan. So, for the sake of the North American market, Legacy risks disappointing his Japanese fans.
