Subaru Legacy Lancaster car overview

General
The Legacy Lancaster series (Legashi Lancaster) is positioned as somewhat different from Legacy itself, since it has a different set in particular, a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine is installed on it. Now a model with a 3-liter 6-cylinder engine Lancaster 6 has been added to the Lancaster modifications line. Naturally, it has a horizontal opposite location of the cylinders, which is characteristic of Subaru. Nevertheless, the cylinders were not just added to the existing 4-cylinder engine, but they developed a completely new one. Despite this, this 6-cylinder engine has become longer than the previous 4-cylinder (EJ model) by only 20 mm. It is known that when developing the current Legacy, an installation of a 6-cylinder engine was already supposed. And when you look at how calmly such an engine is in the compartment, where 4-cylinder fit before, it is impossible, of course, to hide surprise. The diameter became even less than that of a 4-cylinder engine, the gaps in the cylinders are compressed to the limit, as a result of which such a compact block turned out. By the way, the weight of the engine itself increased by 45 kg, compared with the standard 2.5-liter 4-cylinder 16-valve engine with a double upper camshaft. But if you compare with similar turbine engines, then weight gain seems to boil down to 10 kg. In any case, despite the increase in the volume of the engine and the number of cylinders, its size remained at the same level, and the weight gain was minimal.
So, the engine is full of advantages, but what about such important things as a combination with the body and transmission? Since this is necessary to try, I decided to get behind the wheel of the new Lancaster 6.

The world of soft movement
This Lancaster 6 is perfectly made as a car of the SUV class (Sport Utility Vehicle) for adults. When you fall into a comfortable seat and easily put your hands on the steering wheel of the production of momo made of wood and genuine leather, then driving imperceptibly acquires a imposing shade, and this is wonderful. As already mentioned, the 6-cylinder engine with a horizontal opposite location of the cylinders now differs very little in weight from the previous 4-cylinder. When driving along a winding road, there is no impression at all that the front part has become harder. In addition, the roll that occurs when turning seems extremely natural, so even on the mountain road the light work of pedals is shown.
By the way, the power characteristics of the engine are as follows: maximum power 220 hp. at 6000 rpm and maximum torque 29.5 kg-M at 4400 rpm. If skillful deterrence of engine vibration is considered a dignity, then you can give a positive assessment and noise level. A certain rumble rises in front of the red zone, but with the exception of this moment, in almost the entire range of engine operation, a quiet and smooth increase in revolutions is observed. In addition, starting about 2000 rpm, the torque of 24.5 kg-m is manifested. In addition, thanks to the use of completely rounded tires, the noise from the coating is skillfully restrained, and you can enjoy a powerful acceleration, despite such a sound.
If you still make a remark on the Lancaster 6, then there will be only one. It applies to the fact that if when switching a 4-speed automatic transmission from the 3rd to the 2nd speed, move the lever more than usual, then it is inclined to slip the 2nd speed and leave for the 1st. This weak place does not manifest until you enter the winding road and let the car in full swing.
