Partly with the new Impreza, we met at the presentation of the Hatchback-Crossover XV, which we already wrote about. However, the XV conversation is special, Impreza has always been considered mass and one of the most popular Subaru models. But with the advent of a new generation, everything seems to be changing.
How do you like the company's plans to sell 50 cars a month in Russia? Do you know the main competitor? This is now VW Jetta! Competition to a large extent is due to price. Judge for yourself, for the most modest Impreza with a 1.6 -liter engine, you will have to give almost a million rubles 974,000! And the top version costs 1,324,000 rubles! Yes, wait, yes for this money ...
What kind of miracles, what kind of metamorphoses have such a modest model in the past? In order to understand these matters, I went to Odessa for one day.
Subaru is now not the same. The company headed for premium. Having heard criticism of their address and some of their models, non-modern, with oak salons, ambiguous outwardly, the Subarovites understood the time to change something. The first harbinger of metamorphosis was XV. The second Impreza. And it is precisely on her example that the easiest way to understand the current trends in the development of the Japanese brand.
Impreza looks fresh for Subaru, but in general, within the framework of its class, is quite ordinary. The same XV makes a better impression. And look how much expression is in modern Koreans. It's calm here. A little frowning muzzle is pretty. And the chubby arches were created, it seems, with an eye on charged versions with large wheels.
This is not to say that the machine failed, however, I did not find any originality or flight of designer thought in the new Impreza. The rear lights could be solved in a less Chinese style more interesting and expressive. And the overall lights ...
From some angles, Impreza looks good, even a little bold, and pushed, passively from others. An ambiguous design ... There can be no talk of love about love at first sight. Puffing it more like the truth.
It should be noted that I rode during a test drive on a two-liter machine in an average configuration for 1,130,000 rubles. She did not have beautiful color displays, and in general, the equipment was simpler. In the list of available options: 16-inch cast discs, xenon, an audio system with Bluetooth support, six speakers, equipped with USB, AUX and output for apple products, leather steering wheel and checkpoint, fabric interior, ordinary (non-separate) climate control. Simple, practical, if you don't think about the price.
I open the door with a pen under a natural grip and find myself in a new salon. The front panel is like on XV. Plastic is elastic and pleasant. Door panels are well resolved. Conducted a large number of different niches, shelves, pockets. There are no problems with the placement of small things and is not planned.
Compared to the predecessor, the salon has become more spacious. The reason for this is the increase in the wheelbase of 2.5 cm and the redevelopment of the interior with the front racks forward. The racks themselves are thinner in order to level problems with visibility. The Subarovites also took care of landing/landing: increased the shape of the openings and increased the angle in the upper part of the front door. This really helps to get out of the car in a close parking lot and not to hurt this, in some cases, the angle, when the door opens, Neoshiroko opens.
The increase in space is especially well noticeable in the second row. With a height of almost 190 cm, it is convenient for me to sit after myself. Enough stock in height, in the shoulders and legs. Well, if in front a person is lower, it becomes completely spacious.
Schemes of suspensions have not fundamentally changed, but the settings are new. The creators wanted to maintain the inherent Impreza athletics, but at the same time significantly increase comfort. Happened? More than. When I first got behind the wheel and drove, I did not immediately believe that I was driving Subaru! Such comfort at the machines of this brand was not long noticed.
Impreza simply creeps along a broken, uneven road. The suspension runs out all the road flaws. Is there really some kind of sporting in the chassis? Yes! Of course, it has become less. You can’t get away from the laws of physics. But this car is still able to please a person with gasoline in blood. Full-wheel drive, a 6-speed mechanics with a clear drive from STI, and a great two-liter boxer of a new generation is always at your service!
The roads we traveled along were mostly two-pounded. Moreover, there were terrible samples on the stamps between the villages, where agricultural machinery literally bombed some segments. The even and direct autobahn of Odessa Kyiv remained somewhere on the side, and instead of it there were tall waves, deep funnels, protracted detours on the curbs, which helped us to reveal in the suspension a branded Subarovsk energy intensity.
No other car of this class, including Jetta, could have rushed here at such a speed, flying over the pits and silently digesting the runs along the clumsy solid ground. Impreza was able to, and bribed it. Of course, there were flashes of the suspension. Moreover, hard enough, but they passed without consequences. In these conditions, when the chassis is loaded as much as possible, to the honor of the car, it did not swing, worked out the relief at a high level and allowed to maintain control over the road without losing confidence in the car. What is the considerable merit of a new body, in which there are more high -strength varieties of steel. By the way, Impreza passed all the main European, American and Japanese crash tests on five.
Unfortunately, the murdered roads nevertheless prevailed, and this did not fully reveal the capabilities of the sedan to the limit, on even winding roads. There were at least such conditions on our route. It only seemed that the softening of the suspension made a slightly more prolonged phase of the response to the movement of the steering wheel. He lost a little in sharpness.
The suspension is not the only pleasant surprise. Sound insulation. Indeed, if the Japanese really compete with the Germans, then this moment, their traditional weakness, should be carefully modernized ...
When I believed that in front of the driver and passenger places, it is really quiet that you can really speak in an undertone, that the wind does not whistle, the engine does not yell, and the tires do not rustle annoyingly, I asked my colleague to stop the car and moved back. Very often, sound insulation of the back of the cabin is worse. But in the second row, the acoustic picture was worthy.
And what about the dynamics? A two -liter machine on a stick is going cheerful. The new opposition is eagerly spinning and pleases with a flat thrust in the lower revolution. The car also moves in a toll. But the VW turbo darts are still more receivers.
If the motor is spinning, then it will go, of course, more fun. And the new boxer with long -flowing pistons really turned out to be economical. Every time I looked at the testimony of the board, in different riding modes, they turned out to be 15 percent more than what I expected. In general, if you do not trample the accelerator, Impreza can be very economical.
But the climatic installation has not changed. Her rough work remained at the same level. The stove constantly blows cold air, and the functioning of the system in Auto mode did not suit me. I had to wield a handful to the touch by hand.
Despite the fact that the first date was very fleeting, certain conclusions can be drawn now. The first and main Impreza really matured and became more solid. In many aspects, it is no longer the same. The car has become larger, more comfortable, quieter, more economical. The top version can boast of many modern options. At the same time, the sedan did not lose weight charisma. All this is obvious.
As it is obvious, what a package of additions and improvements must be paid. But is it as much as the Subarovites want to get for their car? Obviously not. Such a price of an unmistered Subaru Impreza is slightly shocking. If we take into account the fact that in our market the company plans to sell mainly packed two -liter cars, this means that in the near future Impreza will be a piece of goods.
