Skoda Yeti test drive since 2009 -

Test Skoda Yeti with all -wheel drive and DSGFinally! Finally, the Czechs corrected a strange misunderstanding of the lack of automatic transmission in the only all-wheel drive modification of the Skoda Yeti crossover in Russia that is equipped with a 1.8 turbo engine. Now 152-horsepower gasoline yeti can be ordered with a six-speed pre-sectic DSG robot, and only 40 thousand rubles will have to be paid for a new transmission.
The fact that in Russia at the time of the start of sales in 2009 there was no version with the duo all -wheel drive of the machine - really a misunderstanding. It is in Europe that buyers are accustomed to saving fuel and their own money, purchasing cars with mechanics, and serve the Russians with only two pedals. We did not bring us a diesel option with a six -speed DSG, which was sold in Europe, and the only modification with an automatic transmission available on the Russian market was a monopoly goti with a 1.2 turbo engine and a seven -speed robot with a pair of dry clutches.
It is on him, in the end, now there are more than half of all sales of Czech crossovers. However, soon the situation will change: according to Skoda marketers, with the entry into the market of all -wheel drive Yeti 1.8 with DSG, every second buyer will choose it.
Demand for Skoda Yeti is growing every month in six months of 2011, Russians purchased almost four thousand crossovers, and in June sales exceeded 700 cars a month.
In addition to choosing a shade of body, Skoda Yeti buyers now have the opportunity to order a roof of a different color! Four roof painting options are available - black, silver, beige or white. The surcharge for such a coloring is slightly less than 12 thousand rubles.
It is interesting that initially the new modification of Skoda Yeti was developed only for the Russian market, but then other countries showed interest in it, mainly European Germany, Great Britain, Sweden, Finland, Spain of the largest European markets. And next year, Yeti 1.8 DSG crosses the ocean of an automatic crossover will appear on sale in Australia, Bahrain, Arab Emirates and Kuwait.
So what's new in this car? In addition to the appearance of robotic transmission, in principle, nothing. The gasoline 152-horsepower engine remained unchanged, the all-wheel drive transmission based on the fourth-generation Haldex also. The crossover with DSG gained 35 kilograms in weight, and now it accelerates a little slower from zero to one hundred kilometers per hour in 9 seconds against 8.7 seconds at the version with mechanics. The maximum speed decreased by 4 kilometers per hour to 192 kilometers per hour.
Six or seven?
Yeti is the only car in the Skoda line, which has a 1.8-liter turbo engine aggregate with a six-speed robot, and not with seven-speed, as on Octavia and Superb models. This is due to the fact that the Sixth DSG + Haldex ligament has long been used on Volkswagen all -wheel drive cars, and for a seven -speed checkpoint there would be too many nodes would have to be developed again. In addition, a pre -sequentive robot with two clutches located in an oil bath is more hardy and better corresponds to the off -road capabilities of the crossover than a seven -aisle with dry clutches.
The chassis also did not require Yeti 1.8 as before, one of the most balanced crossovers in the class, which manages to amazely combine good smoothness with a passenger, without reservation, controllability. Even on 17-inch low-profile wheels, it perfectly smooths out the irregularities of any format, but at the same time it willingly changes the direction, and if it rolls in corners, it is completely slightly.
The six -speed DSG robot in the eighth year of life has already got rid of most sores and is now pleasing with soft and predictable work. With a calm ride, the transmission changes almost imperceptibly, and the motor knows yourself rustles in the range of 1,500-2500 revolutions, if necessary, confidently dispersing the car within the same gear. True, in response to pressing the gas pedal, the gearbox is usually in no hurry to jump to the reduced one, but it is worth squeezing the accelerator stronger than DSG at once drops 2-3 gear and the yeti rushes forward with the enthusiasm of the charged hatchback.
But there are no complaints about the DSG sports regime. The transmission always holds one or two transmissions lower than in the drive, confidently slows down the engine and briskly encourages lowered ones reduced with intense slowing down, and the car follows the gas pedal as attached inexpensive machines, which are usually installed on cars of this class, about such mechanics of communication machine- The driver can only dream.
With the DSG Yeti 1.8 box, it became a little more gluttonous in the city 10.6 liters against 10.1 in the version with mechanics, and a little more economical on the highway 6.8 and 6.9 liters, respectively. In the combined cycle, the fuel consumption did not change exactly eight liters per hundred kilometers of mileage.
The off -road abilities of the all -wheel drive Yeti 1.8 were not affected with the advent of a new gearbox - on the contrary, if earlier the gasoline modification of the crossover was scolded for lack of traction at low speeds, due to which the adhesion had to be burned when overcoming complex obstacles, now you can forget about this problem. Having drove more than fifteen kilometers along mountain roads in the vicinity of Sochi, I can confidently say this yeti can much more than you expect from him.
Raises and creepy-looking descents on the slopes on the paths strewn with different-caliber stones, along which local residents ride tourists on specially trained UAZs (this is called jeep-spari), fords and old concrete, laid for career dump trucks, the Czech crossover, everywhere, felt very confident. And, despite a rather small road clearance of 180 millimeters, he did not struck with protection or bottom anywhere.
The Skoda Yeti off -road arsenal is quite scarce, this all -wheel drive transmission with a fourth -generation Haldex clutch, and the Off Road button on the front panel, activating the off -road engine of the engine electronics, a full -wheel drive transmission, gearboxes and stabilization systems. In this mode, for example, it will be easier for the driver to move into the hill on slippery or loose coating electronics will not allow the engine to promote above 2500 revolutions per minute even with a gaze drowned into the floor so as not to cause strong slipping.
In addition, when the Off Road key is pressed, the threshold of intervention of the anti -circus system is slightly pushed away, and the frequency of the operation pulses of ABS is reduced twice for more efficient braking on bulk soils.
Another function of this system, an assistant descent from the mountain, independently maintaining a given speed, brakes of the wheels using the actuators of ABS.
We have long disassembled the rest of the pros and cons of Yeti on the bones in long tests of various modifications of this crossover is a high -quality, albeit a little boring, a magnificent salon transformation system, which allows you to turn the goy almost into a van, and not at the same time not very roomy trunk in the classic five -seater configuration of the cabin; A comfortable chassis and an unusual appearance, which we, however, like it.
The test drive of the new Yeti modification took place in the vicinity of the Krasnaya Polyana of the future capital of the 2014 Olympics. The first part of the route we could only admire the string of trucks and grandiose construction objects, and in the mountains we were met by peace, narrow gravel roads, herds of horses wandering along the roads of cows and dozens of open UAZs skating to local jeep-spari.
In the photo on the right below, a fragment of the road, along which I had to climb the mountains driving Yeti. The size of the stones is from a large apple to a ripe grapefruit.
And most importantly, with the advent of the robot, Yeti has become a truly serious competitor to Japanese and Korean classmates. After all, the basic price for the Czech crossover with all -wheel drive, the 1.8 and DSG engine will be 969 thousand rubles, yes, in a rather modest configuration, but with air conditioning. The version is a little richer costs 1.019 million rubles, and the top -end yeti with a robot (in the Experience configuration) will cost 1.079 million rubles. In the realities of the modern market, this is really a good price for a European crossover with all -wheel drive and a smart robot.
Alternative
