I had to wait a long time until 2001, when the Superb name was revived.
For eight years of existence, the first Superb modernity managed to win many automobile awards and recognition of the European public. Suiting in Superb, finding the differences from related VW models is not at all easy. It is gratifying that gradually Skoda models get rid of the stigma of the cheap division of the German concern and often surpass their relatives from VW.
  
Places in the back row are no less than in the representative class in the new superb, the legs space were increased by 19 mm. Now about the main attraction of the new Skoda Superb patented system opening the Twindoor luggage compartment. In normal mode, the trunk opens like all standard sedans. But it is worth pressing a special key on the trunk lid, and, lo and lo, it rises already with the glass, while the opening increases almost twice. It is very convenient when transporting a bulky cargo.
Skoda Superb is supplied to the Russian market with two gasoline engines of 1.8 and 3.6 liters, as well as with a 2.0-liter turbodiesel.
A 1.8-liter TSI motor with direct injection and turbocharged capacity of 160 hp. Already well familiar to us from Skoda Octavia, as well as on some models of the Volkswagen concern. The top 3.6-liter V6 FSI engine produces 260 hp. and 350 Nm of torque, which is achieved in a wide range from 2500 to 5000 rpm. The most powerful Superb is equipped with only a 6-speed DSG transmission and a full-wheel drive system, which is based on the 4th generation Haldex.
Since the 1.8 TSI engine has already appeared in the recent Octavia test, and the price of the top Superb 3.6 came close to 1.7 million rubles, we decided to take the diesel modification of the flagship of the Czech brand. So, the power of a 2.0-liter diesel engine with a direct fuel injection system is 170 hp, the torque reaches 350 nm (at 1750,2200 rpm). The diesel superb accelerates to magic 222 km/h, and the first hundred is achieved in 8.8 seconds. The test car was equipped with a six -speed DSG gearbox. Good indicators for considerable external sizes. Diesel engine and DSG Great couple! With such a tandem, Skoda Superb can be a imposing sedan and a dynamic hatchback (do not forget about Twindoor). In this case, fuel consumption rarely rose above 10 liters by 100 paths, and outside the city, the route computer showed 5.5 liters completely. The economy should be economical!
As for handling, Superb did not present any surprises. The priority goal is comfort, which is enough here. Stability on the straight line is accompanied by a small transverse tag. In the steering wheel, already familiar notes of behavior Volkswagen Passat and Skoda Octavia are traced. And this is not surprising: the Superb chassis is nothing more than a symbiosis of the main nodes of these models. The steering wheel is nearly not enough informativeness, which, however, is excusable for an almost 5-meter sedan. Otherwise, excellent sound insulation, comfortable suspension settings. Superb is definitely a car for passengers, which does not detract from its sled virtues.
When this material was almost ready, it suddenly turned out that the supply of diesel superb to Russia was over. During the call of several official dealers and Russian the representative office of the brand managed to find out that the termination of supply was caused by quite reasonable reasons. The first of them is the beginning of the production of Skoda Superb in a 1.8-liter gasoline engine at the Volkswagen plant in Kaluga. The second notorious crisis. And finally, the third small demand for diesel modifications in Russia. As a result, the imports of diesel Skoda Superb are still inappropriate. And it’s a pity, because it is the Superb diesel is an excellent business tool that combines a spacious salon, a solid appearance, good sled characteristics, efficiency and competitive price.
