Skoda Superb 2002 test drive - 2008 -

Two -engine attack aircraft

Even in the notorious dieselphobes of the panorama of the sedimentary space of the superb, respect should arouse respect. The V-shaped six-cylinder engine with direct injection gives out such a torque that many business class sedans have never dreamed!

The impression is that this Skoda has not one motor, but two. The first works when the car is in neutral gear. Obviously diesel, because it is well heard from the outside and even inside, although to a lesser extent.

Another motor completely unexpectedly discovers itself in motion, when, on the command of the driver, a car with predatory rumbling jumps forward. This is a V-shaped six, in this class an indispensable attribute of the most prestigious versions.

Modern diesel engines have long have nothing to do with those rammed puffs that most post -Soviet motorists have associated with the word diesel. So this Volkswagen engine with direct injection and intermediate cooling has the largest torque, which, in principle, can have Skoda Superb.

But dry technical characteristics are not able to fully paint the nature of this turbodiesel. The motor here, of course, is one. But what! Diesel has never provoked me on such an aggressive ride. As soon as the tachometer arrow passes the division corresponding to 1700 rpm, the turbine blades begin to sedimently blow the air masses inside the six cylinders. It seems that all three hundred Newton meters in a single-second already in your power, and the car immediately begins to accelerate with such zeal, as if his whole life depends on it.

However, without having time to enjoy the acceleration, you get a cold shower on your head: a revolutionary restriction is triggered. The programs end very quickly, and the first is especially zealous: you only have time to move, as an inevitable need to switch arises. By the way, a mechanical box that acts as a duet with a motor has six steps. If you are not lazy and constantly maintain low speed, you can reduce fuel consumption to a minimum. However, a fairly elastic six will not object much if you jump through the transmission of the motor in any way.

And I don’t want to be lazy oh! The convenient lever of the checkpoint, in the chrome lining of which the entire interior is reflected, with impeccable clarity will approve any of the six gears. Manipulate such a pleasure! But the seeming cloudlessness is clouded by a cloud of armrest between the front seats, which you constantly stumble with your elbow during transmission operations.

A little bit from the crazy diesel, I note the impeccably assembled salon. In the absence of an audio system, a strict dark interior looks empty and gloomy. Of course, the car does not inspire bad thoughts, but it can get bored. By the way, Skoda Superb is one of the most spacious cars from among those that we had to experience. And even more so in its class: such a amount of living space for the legs of the rear passengers can only give cars a class above.
True, it should be recognized that in a rich configuration with a mighty Superb diesel, it will be terribly far from those modest and inexpensive cars that everyone used to see under the brand of Skoda.

The car is provided by the Skoda-Sank-Petersburg Autocenter.
During the test, the car is insured by LLC Nation Center.
