Long -term Skoda Octavia RS test. Part 3: compromise force

For the third week, the Carclub.ru editors on a long test is a charged Skoda Octavia RS hatchback.

In the two previous parts, we discussed the practical side of the Czech hatchback, which is the leader in the classroom and roomy room, and also talked about the combination of a 2.0-liter turbo engine and a six-speed DSG transmission.

Well, what about handling and behavior on the road? Can a RSC become a truly family, in moderation, a comfortable car or Skoda is a regular turbocharger with a herd in two hundred forces on the front drive, a nervous wheel and a scrap suspension?


Octavia is good on the highway. When, under the optional 18-inch wheels, a good asphalt hatchback holds a straight line as high-speed express. RS-cu is not embarrassed by the waves of the roadway, nor the side wind. The steering wheel is heavy in sporting, with a well-verified zero effort. Do you have to rebuild or go around the hole? Please. Skoda without hesitation reacts to the slightest movement of a steering wheel, but does it without hysteria clearly, maintaining stability.

Of course, the modified chassis affects comfort and even in small failures of the asphalt of passengers shocks a little, but it makes this Octavia RS less than, for example, Opel Astra OPC or even the Golf GTI subop -former.


Skoda Octavia RS is excellent on a high -speed line. You can only find fault with the behavior of the machine in conditions of rut, when wide tires begin to tear the steering wheel out of the hands. For those who are more expensive for those who are more expensive, we recommend not ordering optional 18-inch discs and dwell on regular 17 wheels.

At the same time, Skoda is steaming. Despite the impressive size of the hatchback, he willingly screws into a turn at a rather decent speed, and on the steering wheel there is also proper information content and a sufficient portion of reverse effort.

When the road surface deteriorates, the car becomes harsh. If the small pits and joints of the chassis are well worked out, then it is better to go around the bumps more in order to protect 18-inch wheels and the fifth points of the passengers.

In the turn of Skoda is stable and adequate, but if you go to the arc from a cut, then the roll still appears, and with intense braking, the car barely noticeably pecks with the nose. And this is the reckoning for the sane level of comfort that competitors cannot boast.


Skoda is well steering. This handling cannot be called sports, but the proper fraction of the excitement is present here. Despite all the stability with which the Octavia RS stands on the arc, there is still a small roll, and when braking in the floor, the hatchback pecks with the nose. But according to the level of comfort from the class of hot-shakoda, Skoda is out of competition.

The chip of Octavia RS is that it does not impose constant annealing. Skoda allows you to light, but at the same time can go calmly and comfortably. In this regard, the engineers managed to achieve a successful compromise between comfort and controllability.

Of course, you cannot call Skoda Octavia RS a sports car, but the presence of a sports nature is stupid. At the same time, on it you can go to the country with the whole family, go to work every day, drive a long time on the track and even rush to Dalnyak.

This is just the option that gives the answer to the eternal question: controllability or comfort? And even in any of these disciplines, Octavia RS is not perfect, but a successful compromise in this case was still found.
