Shock is in our opinion! Such a life credo actively promoted the Renault brand at the beginning of the 21st century. The hopelessly extravagant Avantime and Vel Satis had an effect on many motorists, comparable in effect with the reaction of the bull to the mulet in the hands of Torero. Fortunately, the profuric sentiments in the company ended, and the desire for originality did not run out. Recently, the actual successor of the flagship family, truly desirable and for various reasons, has become the Renault Laguna compartment.
An elegant car instantly gives rise to a feeling of deja-vu. The smooth lines of the body, the spoiler’s springboard in the lid of the trunk, and especially the rear lights bring healthy associations with the compartment from the Aston Martin family. Such an involuntary comparison should be flattering for a company that decently tarnished its image with designer exercises. An original one hundred percent front it is executed deliberately simply, but not without delights. A huge air intake in the bumper, widely placed headlights and humps of hood, which appeared for the sake of pedestrians, are a very harmonious ensemble of elements. And how many compartment charm of the model add doors without window frames!
No less pleasant Renault Laguna inside. Since we are talking about a representative compartment, and this is what the model is called in the company, the materials of the finish here paid decent attention. High -quality skin and plastic are extremely pleasant to the look and to the touch. You can’t do not hold the ergonomics of the interior created in the spirit of healthy minimalism. Only the most frequently used functions are displayed on the central console, which was reflected in the number of buttons. The rest of the functionality is hidden in the bowels of the system menu of the multimedia system. The shape of the front seats repeats the contours of the body, and the wide range of adjustments allows a person to get a person to a person of almost any height. Laguna also boasts an unusual compartment with an abundance of the legs of the rear passengers. Even despite the fact that compared to the hatchback, the wheelbase is 60 mm shorter here. In addition, the model has a decent trunk (423 l), in which, with folded backs of the rear sofa, cargo is easily transported up to 180 cm long. The spaciousness of the salon and the capacity of the trunk make the car quite suitable for year -round family use. Unless, of course, the family will be delighted with the declared 15 -litrous city consumption of a 3.5 -litarine gasoline version (240 hp). The situation with a diesel 3.0 -fraud modification (235 hp): 10.2 liters per hundred.
The behavior on the road of both versions is very, very similar. Spurred by a 6 -speed automatic, the car is dynamically accelerating and intensively accelerates from almost any sane speed. The advantages of a more moment diesel showed only on the upward serpentine roads, which were easier to give up under the onslaught of a heavily fuel compartment. A lot of kind words also deserved the controllability of the model. From the stop to the stop, the steering wheel makes less than two and a half revolutions. Sharp and informative, with intelligible feedback, he makes control of the car pleasant and comfortable. But the feeling of control over the car would be incomplete without the intervention of the steering rear suspension 4Control, which is installed on the compartment in the basic configuration.
Electronics evaluates the force on the steering wheel, the speed of the car, the force of the wheel clutch with the road and, in accordance with the data obtained, changes the angle of rotation of the rear wheels (up to 3.5 degrees). At a speed of up to 60 km/h, the rear wheels are arguing in the direction opposite to the turn of the front wheels. In the narrow European streets, such a decision was truly good. And the radius of the turn is significantly reduced. If the speed exceeds 60 km/h, the rear wheels turn into one string with the front. Thus, the effect of moving in one plane is achieved: with a minimum corner of rotation of the steering wheel, the car smoothly, without rolls, shifts in the desired direction. So do not occupy the maneuverability and stability. Like the smoothness of the course: despite the sports orientation of such models, Renault Laguna does not differ in the rigidity of the suspension, but does not bother those sitting in the cabin with excessive sensitivity to the irregularities of the road surface.
With all the splendor, the new model from Renault will become a kind of flying Dutchman in Russia. Most will only have to read about him, and those who are lucky to see the compartment on the road will remember this meeting for a long time. After all, potential buyers of such a car will most likely look for happiness in a more expensive segment due to the prestige of the brand: there are still not many people free from prejudice in our country.
Where the legs grow from
The coupe appeared in the Renault lineup with different frequency. Four implemented projects (Floride, Renault 15/17, Fuego) turned out to be successful: cars lasted several years on the conveyor. For example, the release of the last model was stopped in Argentina in 1992, 12 years after the start of production. The company gained the next experience, already embarking on the slippery path of shocking. The fate of the Avantime pseudo-Kupe was sad: the car caused a persistent rejection of the public because of a complete discrepancy with traditional ideas about the auto design. Therefore, two years after the start in 2001, she quietly retired.
