I was looking forward to this meeting: the new Porsche 911 Carrera S with an optional gearbox PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) and in amazing Macadamia color, milk chocolate with characteristic interspersed metallic.
First of all, you can distinguish a new generation of the legendary 911st by new bicenon optics of head lighting and new LED headlight headlights. The rear lights also received the LED technology popular today. In addition, Porsche for the first time as an option offers a dynamic function of lighting turns. And for the sake of European safety requirements, lateral rear -view mirrors were increased.
But the main differences between the new generation Porsche 911 Carrera S, of course, inside. First of all, it is a new engine, PDK transmission and a sensory multimedia-navigation system PCM (Porsche Communication Management).
Now in order. According to Porsche, new engines installed on a modernized model with a 997 body differ by 8.5 percent with a capacity reduced by 12.9 percent fuel consumption and also reduced by 15.4 percent with CO2 emission. As a result, the power of a 3.6-liter engine, which is equipped with a regular Carrera, increased by 20 hp. Up to 345 hp, and in our case, an atmospheric 6-cylinder opposite motor with a volume of 3.8 liters added a little more than 30 horses. Now its power is 385 hp.
The Carrera model is equipped with a sports mechanical 6-speed gearbox, and a new Porsche DoppelkupLung robotic box is offered as the option, which faster swimming the steps without exposure of the fuel flow compared to the previous Tiptronic S with a hydrotransformer. PDK has seven steps, two clutches and two shafts, on one of which are even transmissions, and on the other odd.
To switch the transmission, the usual robotic box must first turn off the clutch, then turn off the transmission, then turn on the next gear, and then turn on the clutch. PDK does faster: when one gear is turned on, the other is already on the shaft of the second unclenched clutch. But how does the box know which transmission to push increased or lowered? The fact is that electronics constantly analyzes a lot of information received from various sensors and car systems, and, based on this information, selects the desired transmission. And if the prognosis of the electronic brain still did not materialize, then in some miles of a second the necessary gear will appear on the shaft of the second clutch. Moreover, switching occurs truly lightning speed, so it is impossible to determine the moment when PDK guessed, and when not, it is impossible.
Manual switching PDK can be carried out using the traditional swaying of the transmission lever or using new steering keys that replaced with traditional steering wheel petals. Having familiarized myself with many reviews, I, contrary to the prevailing opinion of the superiority of the petals, I believe that the new keys are more convenient and universal, if only because each of them can switch transmissions both up and down. Another advantage of PDK, which increases the rate of fire of the box, is the ability of this transmission to switch immediately after several steps, for example, from the 5th gear to the 2nd. True, if the box determined that the best will be switched from even or odd to odd, the transition will not be carried out immediately, but through the transmission located on another shaft. Difficult? In theory, yes, but in practice, the rate of fire PDK from these manipulations does not suffer at all.
The test Porsche Carrera S was equipped with an optional Chrono Plus package, which includes a large stopwatch on the front panel, which is necessary for monitoring the track, as well as the Sport Plus magic key, which includes the fast start of Launch Control. Of course, such experiments do not affect the transmission resource in the best way, but, firstly, there is a protection system that, when overheating of the transmission, will automatically turn off the fast starting function, and if necessary, it will block the checkpoint until it cools down to the required temperature. Well, secondly, not to try Launch Control on Carrera S would be a real crime.
So, the left leg on the brake, the right presses the accelerator pedal on the floor, let go of the left pedal, and with a minimum slip of Porsche shoots like a cannon core. Is it a joke, 385 hp. at 6500 rpm and 4.5 seconds to 100 km/h. Passengers presses into seats, as when taking off the aircraft. The most powerful acceleration continues in the entire speed range up to 250 km/h, after which the agricultural Carrera S is slightly reduced. But this is enough for the eyes!
Sports tight steering wheel, sharp reactions of the driver’s team are performed with lightning speed, without any busting. And what is the sound of the motor! A 6-cylinder opponent, located in the rear overhang, sings as an opera soloist. No special tubes to the salon for a more formidable roar, only pure live sound without a phonogram.
The direct Porsche Carrera S holds perfectly at any speed, it is a pleasure to maneuver in the stream. He only needs to indicate the right direction, and then the 911st rushes there without looking back. But on our roads follows the bull on the alert: the big difference in the width of the front and rear track, as well as the wide wheels give nervousness in the rut. In addition, Carrera S clearly, to a single trifle, broadcasts data on the flaws of the roadway to the salon.
The turn is extremely clear reactions, excellent tenacity and a very high speed threshold. Well, if you still overdo it at speed, then Carrera slides a little with the front wheels, after which PSM (Porsche Stability Management) immediately comes into business, returning the adhesion to the road. Let’s try again, but now in front of the entrance the box is a couple of steps down, so that the front wheels grab with asphalt, moving the steering wheel, and open the gas at the output. Now how it should!
For more excitement, you can turn off the stabilization system and play with gas, passing a turn in a small sliding and, if necessary, wrapping the 991st in a turn. Very understandable and honest handling. Despite the fact that Porsche is stuffed to the top with various systems, there is no electronic synthetics inherent in many pseudo -specialists. At the wheel of Porsche Carrera S, you can get true pleasure, from real sound and real controllability.
As for the interior decoration, here everything, as usual, is at the highest level. Around high -quality skin, verified ergonomics and classic design from Stuttgart. We note only the new PCM system (Porsche Communication Management) with a touch screen, an excellent Bose audio system, a DVD player, a navigation system, an optional TV tuner, as well as support for the Bluetooth protocol. With the release of the flagship model Porsche Panamera, the PCM system has acquired a Russian -speaking interface. Soon it will receive similar systems from the Carrera line. However, in English, communication with this system is very easily given.
