Test drive Porsche 911 Carrera 991 since 2012

Head spin

The first acquaintance with the Porsche 911 is on the example of a convertible.

Tractor! The unlucky opponent of the Porsche 911 Carrera S Carrera S is roughly tapping right behind him, and there is neither nobility nor special beauty in its mechanical roar and twist. But take it higher into the mountains and let him breathe in full chest, and then his angry bargaining, reflected from the rocks directly into the open salon of the convertible, will make his hair move on your back of the head.

It so happened that with Porsche 911 I still drove only a hat acquaintance: last winter I slipped for ten hundred and one hundred on ice in Tushino for ten minutes, and in the summer I drove a couple of circles at a walking pace under the track under construction near St. Petersburg. But he was quite heard about the nobility of the posterior character of the 911st, and his requirements for the driver's skills of a man sitting behind the wheel

But they came to the end of the day and a half in the company Porsche 911, and he did not throw me into a roadside ditch, did not smear on the rock and did not shove a serpentine from a break on the island of Gran-Canary.

On the contrary, the new nine hundred-day one seemed to be one of the most understandable and fantastically exciting cars that I had to ride!

All because Porsche 911 is changing. With each generation, it becomes even more perfect and even faster. So the compartment debuting last year, and the new convertible only looks like their predecessors. They are lighter and tougher, they have a wider track and a wheelbase increased by an impressive 100 millimeters. The motor was pushed into the body of the body 70 millimeters, and although constructively the engine is still hanging over the rear axle, new cars are traveling differently.

Porsche 911 Cabrio 50 kilograms is lighter than the previous generation model, and its body is 18 percent tougher. The roof is a fabric stretched onto a magnesium frame. This design is easier, which means it helps to reduce the center of mass.

Even in the version without a roof of the 911th monolith. It is extremely assembled and elasticity on bumps, but it does not exhaust with its density even after a few hours of active drive. The steering wheel, for nothing that is now equipped with an electric power, is slightly heavy, but crystal clean and accurate. And no supercar nervousness convertible does not rush about on bumps, a robotic gearbox with two clutches in the drive changes the steps quickly and imperceptibly, the motor only rusts.

And where is the adrenaline? Where are emotions, sweat and sweaty from the excitement of the palm?

Yes, very close by the red spark on the Sport or Sport Plus key on the central tunnel. After clicking on any of these buttons, the 911th suddenly gathers, and you feel how the muscles are strained under its relief sides. The gearbox falls a couple of steps down and invitingly hangs on 3-3.5 thousand revolutions: they say, come on, press, since I decided! I shook!

The selected mechatron chassis mode is displayed on the left spoke of the steering wheel (not in all versions). A separate sport settings option has no transmission, it is activated automatically.

A suddenly changing the character of the four hundredth Carrera S is stunning. And not with a pure dynamics, but with the effectiveness and accuracy with which the car implements the entire traction issued by the atmospheric engine, without a trace. And the absolute lack of inertia in their reactions.

The hook is just crazy rear tires with a width of 295-mm bite into each nanometer of the roadway. That is why, instead of the expected slippage of the rear wheels, the car reacts only to the provocative dumps on the gas pedal only with the most powerful jerks of acceleration, from which the neck will be carried.

The robot works flawlessly, allowing you to fully concentrate on the steering. An honest manual mode here is needed, rather, for a checkmark, because the PDK transmission always perfectly finds the desired transmission.

Insufficient rotation? If only to deliberately provoke it and catastrophically exceed the speed of entry into the turn. In all other cases, the system of active suppression of the rolls with all his might tries to prevent the fraud of the front tires, so the limit for the reserve of adhesion to the road is literally behind the line of good and evil. This means that traveling on public roads at a pace that can withdraw the 911st from balance, pure madness!

Even in Sportplus mode, in which electronics noticeably weakens the collapse of the stabilization system and track control, the convertible remains perfectly obedient.

The sensation of a direct connection between the gas pedal and the motor additionally enhance the active hydraulic boards of the engine, which fight vibrations and do not allow it to play at variable loads.

But without even choosing the true limits of the 911st, from how quickly you manage to roll into this car, it is easy to lose your head. The convertible is flat on island serpentines, flowing between the ligaments with the speed of the mudflow. Braking, well loading the front wheels, short drive and gas again! I hear yes, I hear! How the active rear differential crumbles, slowing down the inner wheel and directing the craving to the support and then closing friction clutch for the maximum angry acceleration. I feel how the car confidently relies on the wide tires and draws the perfect arc, realizing each Newton's craving.

The driver’s involvement in this process is incredible.

He feels everything that does the 911th feels with his hands, legs, his ass, after all! He sees where and how the car goes, because his front wings always loom in front of his nose, and in the mirrors powerful hips of the rear wheel arches. But more importantly, he hears all this mechanical cacophony around, between the sources of which there are no obstacles!

A convertible on a racing track? Why not

Can there be something better?! It turns out yes! Carrera S convertible with optional carbon-ceramic brakes and sports system. By pressing the button next to the checkpoint selector with the pipes drawn on it, you seem to take out the bunkers so much and the voice of the 911th becomes louder. In the mountains, his sound brings to frenzy, forcing to twist the opposite motor of the convertible to ring, over and over again, getting to the cut -off.

Red calipers are ordinary brakes. Yellow - optional carbon -ceramic. The second is better in all respects: more effective, lighter (minus 3.5-3.8 kilograms from each wheel) and almost tireless.

The steering wheel with ceramics seems a little easier and therefore even cleaner, and such a convertible overcomes the bumps with even greater equanimity. Road brakes, for which in Russia are asking for unthinkable 408 thousand rubles, is not just an outload of overloads on mountain serpentines or on the track, but also the saved kilograms of unsaved masses, which make the 911st more perfect.

Interior

The interior Porsche 911 Cabriolet is impeccable. Leather, high -quality plastic, aluminum and skin again. The right bell of the dashboard is entirely given to a round (!) LCD of high resolution display. It is displayed by the on -board computer and navigation tips. Cup chronograph on the front panel Part of the Chrono package.

The buyer of the convertible will be able to choose from four types of front seats that differ in profile, the degree of sports and the number of adjustments. In addition, you can order heating and ventilation. Most electronics control buttons are concentrated on the front panel and a transmission tunnel.

Rear places in 911 Cabriolet Convent. Even children are unlikely to fit them, but you can put a jacket or bag. The protective screen is now extended and hidden using an electric drive - this is much more convenient than manually installed, as on its predecessor.

We do not want to talk about the disadvantages of Porsche 911 Cabriolet primarily because they all seem far -fetched. Will someone really refuse an open car due to the fact that he sometimes creaks a folding roof mechanism? Or will someone really complain on a tiny trunk in front, apparent crowded in the cabin or a braked navigator? Yes, full!

The basic convertible Carrera with a 350-horsepower engine is very good. But the ESCA is tangibly angry and is able to give more emotions. Moreover, it is better to take the version with PDK: the mechanics, although it works perfectly, but the robot is still faster.

The most serious problem that I found in the 911th is the need to choose between the coupe and the convertible. Because 911 Cabriolet is able to give its owner a incommensurably more audio-visual emotions than a compartment. And the compartment, in turn, should go more precisely and will probably even quickly bring to ecstasy any gambling driver.

From this choice, the head goes around! But I know the way out: you need to buy both.

Details

1. The Acquisitive Rear Differences PTV Plus is available only on machines with a robotic PDK transmission. It performs two functions at once. Firstly, at the entrance to the turn, the electronics slows down the inner wheel with the help of standard brakes, reporting an additional torque torque and thereby arguing it. When accelerating at the exit from the turn, the system clamps the electronic -controlled differential lock. A traditional self -block is available for versions with mechanics.
2. Electrosolizer helped reduce fuel consumption by about 0.1 liters per 100 kilometers.
3. The suppression of the Krenes PDCC (Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control) uses hydraulic cylinders instead of traditional fasteners of reproach stability stabilizers. Each of the hydraulic cylinders can change its length by 70 millimeters. With active driving, the stabilizer is clamped by the ahead of schedule, but with a straightforward movement, the active stub almost completely blooms to achieve maximum comfort.
4. The mechanical gearbox is almost the PDK presetel robot, only without a control electrics. There are now seven programs, and you can switch to the highest stage either with the fifth or sixth gear. A train robot with two PDK clutch (Porsche Doppelkupplung) is 30 kilograms heavier than additional attachments.

Burmester audio system option, and not cheap: 210 thousand rubles. Its peculiarity, in addition to a worthy sound, is in the ability to determine whether the roof is omitted or not. In addition, the specialists of this brand prepared for 911 Cabriolet several stops of sound settings for different tastes and to music from different media (radio, MP3, and so on).

The sound of the Burmister is voiced, clean, with deep bass to enhance low frequencies, niches in the car body are used, which replace the housing with low -frequency speakers.

The BOSE base system costs noticeably cheaper - only 68 thousand rubles.
