PEUGEOT 807 test drive since 2002 minivan
Binding
The main feature of the minivans has always been considered practicality and functionality. These qualities are often inherent in stylish cars, such as Peugeot 807.The minivans were the first type of car that experienced the charms of globalization: in the States and Europe, quite often the same car was produced under different brands. One of the most striking examples of such cooperation was the Franco-Italian Sevel project, the fruits of which were four cars: Peugeot 806, Citroen Evasion, Fiat Ulysse and Lancia Zeta. This year, the next generation of minivans took place, which, like their predecessors, are produced at the same enterprise in French Valancena (they know how to weave not only lace) and differ mainly in design. So we can say that, having met the Peugeot 807, we met with Citroen C8, the new Fiat Ulysse and Lancia Phedra.
Beauty is a terrible power. The creators of the first generation of this four had the opportunity to take into account the experience of competitors, therefore, according to the layout of the salon and the possibilities of its transformation of the machine, they turned out to be literally unsurpassed. An even floor, maximum variety of layout options, sliding rear doors - in a word, everything that can be expected from minivan. However, the appearance of the founders of the entire line designers clearly did not pay so much attention: outside these cars were more like small vans than cars. It is not surprising that the style has become the main distinguishing feature of the second generation. Moreover, the difference between models of different brands is now more pronounced. The buyer still wants a certain personality, despite the unification of models.
The novelty of the Peugeot 807 compared to 806 is obvious at first sight. The rapid lines of the soft silhouette are much more modern than slightly angular, neat, but ugly faces of the predecessor. And most importantly, the 807th fits perfectly into the general style of the latest Peugeot models.
The difference inside is even more obvious. The driver’s workplace has preserved the brightest feature of the layout - the location of the KP lever in the form of a joystick on a small ledge in the center. Thanks to this, the floor between the seats remained even, and theoretically, from the first row, you can go back. Or, for example, deploy chairs. For the sake of this, the parking brake lever is moved to the driver's door. The instrument shield was placed in the center of the panel and performed in the form of separate translucent dials with green lights suspended on an elegantly curved cross member. A good way to create a feeling of spaciousness and give the car a charm of a living room with a mild high-tech. It is interesting that for the version with the monitor of the navigation system, a completely different shield is provided - whole.
Perhaps the only thing that you can give up seriously was to be a children's mirror. This is a new option, which is offered on some models of Peugeot and Citroen: a folding mirror that allows you to observe what is happening in the back seat. The idea is borrowed from buses and trucks. This is very convenient for parents who carry children. More precisely, it would be convenient if this mirror in the 807th was located closer-now it is so high that you have to be distracted from the road.
Metro. The back of the cabin underwent only changes in the style and refinement of the already existing components. Among the new elements, the electric drive of the shift doors is the first to attention. It is enough to pull the handle, and they crawl back. You can push them either again by pulling the handle, or by pressing the button on the rack. Well, of course, the driver has buttons. When moving the door (more precisely, their motors and gearboxes) make a sound resembling a warning zummer before closing the doors in the Paris metro.
In general, the new design added both comfort and practicality - not to mention beauty. Say, for fastening the rear seats, the new QuickFix system is used, the aluminum guides of which also look very stylish. By the way, for the sake of reducing the mass, the roof is also made of aluminum, and the wings and door of the trunk are plastic.
The chairs are very elegant and allow, as before, there are a lot of options for planning the salon, almost all possible combinations. The disadvantage is characteristic of all modern models: due to the need to integrate seat belts into chairs, they have a powerful frame and are quite heavy.
Of course, it was not without a variety of pockets, cup holders and other very convenient places for small things. There are all as much as 57! Among other things, in the cabin there is a place for six one and a half liter bottles with mineral water and six cans. Including for three - in the coolant of the box under the central console.
Quickly and even faster. Most minivans do not differ in good dynamics: for a relatively heavy machine, engines from passenger modifications are weak. However, the Peugeot 807 with a 2.2-liter engine with a capacity of 160 hp. It accelerates without any problems, so you are very possible to compete with ordinary cars. True, this is the most powerful engine in the range at the moment, but also a more modest two -liter capacity of 138 forces should provide quite decent acceleration dynamics. There are also two diesel engines: 2.0 l/109 hp. and 2.2 l/130 hp - Both, of course, belong to the HDI family. In the near future, a 2.9-liter V6 will be proposed for this model, which is placed on the top models Peugeot and Citroen. Its 204 l.S. They must provide the machine with a maximum speed of more than 200 km/h!
On the go, it becomes noticeable that the central location of the devices in principle does not cause any special problems, but at first it makes you strain. Yes, and the ventilation and air conditioning system, which is displaced to the passenger for the driver, seems to be achieved, but without habit on the go, it is better not to use it - it was very far from the driver. True, it itself is quite functional. But the transmission lever is very convenient. However, like many machines with a cable drive of the switching mechanism, the moves are a little long. But the fact that the programs are not clearly understood can be considered a shortage of designers of this model.
Dynamic acceleration requires some engine twisting, but the result is achieved quickly enough. Nevertheless, you should not get carried away: the suspension is clearly designed for full load, and if there is only a driver and one passenger in the car, then it noticeably shocks it on a medium -sized road. This is not to say that the car has become insufficiently stable, but it is only worth it to exceed the speed of 120--130 km/h ... In general, it is not worth comparing the 807th with the best cars, although in most situations of everyday operation the owner is unlikely to notice any significant drawbacks. Indeed, for Minivan, the main thing is practicality and comfort. Well, as it is now clear, is a style.
