Test drive Nissan X-Trail 2003-2007 SUV

Journalists were taken to the Spanish Malaga, to the homeland of Pablo Picasso. Therefore, probably, only a great artist could distinguish the new X-Trail from the old look.

The first is an understandable desire - to go around the car in a circle. So. The headlights remained the same-the same lighting technology closed by the blue lampshade a la Ksenon. Rules remained in the same place, which are easier to navigate in the parking lot. The fog, which in the new version drowned a little deep into the bumper, are designed, rather, so that the car is visible to the oncoming drivers, and not for highlighting the roadsides. Here, rather, lanterns will come to the rescue, which are mounted on the roof with the rails as an option. They look very puppy and, coupled with high light (you can’t turn them on separately) give the driver a complete picture of where he is located at night.
You can distinguish a new car from the old only from behind, where the Nissanists brought a significant touch: they changed rectangular reflectors to round ones - this clearly added novelty. The only thing we did not really like in appearance was the faded lanterns of the stop-signals, apparently, inherited from the previous model.
 
 
BEAUTY SALOON. In the cabin, the main difference between the new X-Trail and the previous one is a torpedo. Here, the Japanese took into account all the claims to the previous model and almost completely redrawn the location of the control buttons. Devices, as before, are exactly in the middle, but now they are not turned to the driver, but look exactly at the rear window. Oddly enough, it became much easier to read them, and you get used to the traditional unconventional location for ten minutes and you will no longer get down. During the first 300-kilometer move, this even helped-you get less tired of the tachometer shooters jumping in front of the eyes and pay more attention to the road. The steering column remained unchanged: as before, it is regulated only in height. There are two options for layouts of the central console: with the GPS system and without it. In the first case, a colored LCD display is located under the dashboard (Nissan representatives stated, the largest in its class - as many as seven inches), and in the second - a two -day audio system that loses cassettes and CDs. The navigation monitor is located very successfully - the visor of the dashboard blocks it from sunlight, and the map is easily visible even from the rear seat. Of course, navigation will not work in our country, but the screen can be used to view DVD films-the corresponding player is located in the glove box. In addition, on the LCD screen, the on-board computer is still displayed.
The climate system regulators, unlike the previous X-Trail, are now located much closer to the driver, and do not take your eyes off the road to change the temperature regime.
Behind the sliding curtains at the bottom of the console there is a compartment for cans or bottles. As before, drinking on the road can be cooled by air conditioning (or heat from the stove in winter) - for this a special button is provided. The space for the rear passengers in the new X-Trail has not changed. The seats can be adjusted along the angle of inclination (only 5 provisions), and they are folded in a ratio of 2: 3. Behind the armrest there is a hatch in the trunk for transporting long-sized objects, and a practical curtain is still pulled above the trunk. The salon can be ordered either from leather or velor.
Take half a liter. Journalists were presented to the X-Trail version with a new 2.5-liter engine. In Spain, we tried it combined with an automatic four -speed gearbox, but it will be sold with five -speed mechanics. Finally, X-Trail received a lively and sufficiently powerful gasoline engine. With it, and driving along the serpentine, and acceleration in a straight line, and overcoming all kinds of obstacles go with a bang. There are no more sensations that there is not enough traction, as on a similar Nissan with a two -liter engine. We especially liked how the car makes overtaking on the highway. As soon as the assault rifle on the X-Trail notices the nudity, it immediately turns on the transmission lower, the turns of the usual 3 thousand jump up to 5 thousand, which can easily overtake the cargo-outing truck. But it's time to turn off the asphalt.
The all -wheel drive switching algorithm has not undergone any changes. This is a key with the corresponding abbreviations: 2WD - front -wheel drive, Auto - the rear bridge is connected only in the case of the front and Lock slipping - a forced all -wheel drive that distributes the moment between the front and rear wheels in a ratio of 57 to 43 percent, respectively.
In the clay porridge, X-Trail behaved confidently, only frantically blinked an indicator of the track control (TSC). It is now included in the ESP+ complex electronic system with ABS. If you look at the hysteria of the electronics, it can simply be turned off with a special button under the wheel. Immediately after disconnecting the electronic brains, the X-Trail began to behave somehow unsolved for the SUV: it was thrown from side to side, and it was not so easy to stay on the straight line. Do not forget that we are not dealing with a heavy Patrol, but with a fairly light alternate. Having played enough, we turned on ESP+ back, and the car continued to move almost like on rails.
Trembling in the hands. And with manual and automatic gearbox, X-Trail coped with lifts, and clay porridge on the off-road, and with a steep descent, and with overcoming the ford perfectly. The only complaint appeared in the version with a diesel engine on the rise - when switching from the first to the second to the second, many of our colleagues were simply stalling: the gear number is more configured for movement in a straight line, and on the lifts the diesel engine had to be removed from habit to the maximum.
 
 
Not without curioses. Having left the off-road route to the asphalt, we immediately felt that something was wrong with the steering control. The steering wheel pounded with a large tremor, the car threw from side to side. Stopping at the side of the road and looking under the bottom, we did not find any visible damage - most of the nodes were covered with dirt. Alas, the X-Trail clearance is not as large as we would like. Once again carefully, having examined everything, we found the reason for the fever. As it turned out, a piece of clay is on one of the discs, thereby unbalancing the wheel. After cleaning, the trembling passed by itself.
All three engines will be available to Russian customers: gasoline 2.0 liters, 2.5 liters, as well as a diesel 2.2 liter. The automatic box will only be installed on the 2.5 gasoline engine, and six -speed mechanics - only for diesel modifications. The only thing that is not provided is not at all was the three -door version of the body. This car, Nissan marketers say, is primarily provided as family. But for lovers of shorties, Nissan has a special Terrano modification with a short -fingered base for half a meter. The sales of the X-Trail are scheduled for early December, and as for the price, it has not yet been determined, but as the manufacturers said, it will only be just above $ 30 thousand-the initial cost of the previous X-TRIIL.
