Cherokee. And he could simply get off with a 30-meter slide without brakes, maintaining the necessary speed at the expense
the thrust of a 3-liter turbodiesel ... a new one will not do this. Not because it is worse, but because there is no such motor in the power line and is not expected (only a 5.6-liter V8 from Infiniti QX).

In addition, in the brand new Patrol, a huge number of electronic bells and whistles are able to independently decide what and when should turn on, which wheel should spin or, conversely, stand. The Japanese even introduced a hydraulic system of limiting the body vibrations here ... Practice shows that they work hardly better than archaic mechanics (and the new Patrol is no exception), but alas, there is no sense of ownership. The process of movement has become as refined as, say, in Land Rover Discovery or in the eternal competitor to Toyota Land Cruiser.

However, the Japanese achieved that. Nobody needs utilitarian rides today. The townsfolk prefer more universal crossovers who have long weaned the driver to think before moving off asphalt. Enthusiasts choose SUVs simpler and cheaper and then bring them to condition. Machines like the new Patrol get rich extremes that do not want to share comfort and pleasure into components. Here, in fact, for such customers they made a car. Arabic mainly. Don’t feed the oligarchs nourished on the oilflies with bread on the sandy grains of the Rodeo and to arrange the space on two wheels, having previously loaded the interior with associates. The old Patrol was just big, this huge. And the Japanese should have made this design to work as a whole. But they coped. In principle, nothing significant happened, except for the appearance of several power elements integrated into the body (for example, a closed frame inserted into the opening of the rear door). As a result of any serious claims to the hardness of the body, you can no longer present here (although during the test the car had to overcome more than one quite serious topographic barrier).

However, this concerns only the rigidity of the body and partly comfortable with it, as well as vibro and sound insulation. Patrol is by no means perfect. Especially in terms of fuel consumption. In fairness, it should be noted that there was no regret for the absence under the hood of a turbodiesel on the road, outside it too. But at the gas station ... It cannot be said that the motor is very voracious, but this is V8 with not the smallest volume. In general, less than 15 liters will not work on the highway, in the city this threshold is at the level of 20. Outside of the road, even more. Another thing is that it is almost impossible to put a truly unresolved task before this car. I would venture to assume that in deep snow or on the sand, the car will begin to sit down, but in more or less sane conditions, having pushed the upper loose layer and digging to a relatively strong surface, it rushes along the virgin lands as a tank. Moreover, even in high gear. A low gear, by the way, in general, during the test, it took two times, no more.


Having laid the second and third rows of seats on the floor, the driver receives not so much luggage as the residential compartment the size of a normal double bed. In the old Patrol, this was impossible.

But this is only a small fraction of the comfort that offers the car to its inhabitants. The interior of the Japanese, of course, was overdue of recognition. Inside Patrol is the same new Infiniti QX. Chic, spacious and extremely comfortable. Not a couple of the predecessor who suffered from all typically Japanese shortcomings (a clear deficit of vertical space and not too pretentious quality
finishes). In this case, the situation is diametrically opposite. Sometimes you will not find such skin and plastic in other premium sedans, like some equipment (like active cruise control). And the quality of landing is equally convenient in both rows. Even on a traditional gallery, an adult will be accommodated without much trouble, despite the changed scheme and dimensions (folding seats are now not fastened to the sidewalls, but are laid under the floor).

One thing is upset: Patrol is still an honest SUV, and adventures in style see how I can happen to it quite often. And in most territories we do not have sands, at best, eternal permafrost, in the worst no less eternal dirt, capable of literally in a second to turn all this into one continuous sex rag. It is clear that in nature there is a dry cleaning and specially trained people, for the buyer such an SUV, it will not be a sorry to make this procedure more or less regular financial labor, but it would be a pity to mock these lines over the salon of his SUV.

And here the issue of purpose comes to the surface again. It is clear that such a car will never turn out to be a regular in rally-raids, that soon Patrol will finally cease to be associated with the UN or Red Cross (which, by the way,, more recently, the brand marketers had a special reason for pride).
