Interest in the Russian market among Japanese crossover manufacturers has been growing for a long time and, I must say, is not unreasonable: Nissan, Mitsubishi, and Toyota have been holding on sales leaders for a year now. Honda with Suzuki does not lag behind them. And Mazda? Of course, she has a CX-7, which can also boast of popularity. However, one seven for the brand is not enough. On such a wave of demand for medium -sized all -wheel drives, there is no such car in their lineup (and the company from Hiroshima in recent years has been empty), it would be unforgivable oversight. That's why it is not surprising that Mazda marketers were in a hurry with the premiere, and the novelty was available to the Russian buyer even earlier than the European one!

The Japanese admit that this crossover is very important for the company, and is important not only as the next model, but also as a kind of example, as the first representative of the new designer philosophy of Kodo, with a person, with a meaningful translation of the shower of movement, which replaced the former Nagare stream . The essence of the new stylistic direction was reflected by the branded and dynamic, with a shinari concept shifted to the rear axle two years ago.

The salon of the new Mazda CX-5 did not move anywhere from the usual place, but in other external details, as, for example, in the case of a huge multifaceted radiator grill, the concept-control features are perfectly read. At the first glance at the living CX-5, it is not thrown in the eye that is not a proportional and fitted silhouette with a long hood and a full-fledged, almost passenger, front overhang. Yes, yes, I know: on the off-road it will be only a minus, which we ourselves became convinced a little later. But what it looks like!


The interior Mazda CX-5 is strict and at the same time generous. The instrument shield with three unchanged circles scales, the right of which became the screen of the flight comprehensive compliance, received a calm white backlight. The front panel, which with its even lines and polished insert is very reminiscent of the interior of BMW models, was dressed with soft plastic, and a full -fledged color touch display came to replace the corporate red screen. By the way, it is not necessary to reach for him on the road at all with the control of the multimedia system easily copes with the pleduger, which was sheltered on the tunnel between the seats. A pleasant trifle: the usual handbrake is listed in her neighbors, all he is more appropriate than the parking pedal on the CX-7. But to use it for sharp reversals will not be possible to stabilize the stabilization system for an unclosed crossover. Although, maybe it is for the better ...


Getting behind a seized leather steering wheel is not a problem. Both the column and the chain of upholstery itself are adjusted in sufficient ranges and can cause complaints only among tall drivers. And the last passengers of the back row will already express their discontent. They, the poor, are already uncomfortable there: both with the expanse is medium, and the niches in the doors, on which the hand usually lies easily, for some reason got an unsuccessful broken shape. One exit is to rely on the far way on the central armrest, which itself implies the absence of an average passenger. But the three will be crowded here.

But in terms of the transformation of the cabin, the crossover Mazda CX-5 at a height: the back of the rear seat divided into three parts is folded with a light movement of the hand (and this can be done from the trunk), and forms an even floor. By the way, under this very floor, a reserve of slightly smaller than standard wheels is hidden.


But Mazda cars are not chosen for spacious salons and roomy transforming trunk. For fans of the brand, of which there are many in Russia, honest driver sensations are much more important, generously provided by these cars. The new Mazda CX-5, being the most unsportsmaning Mazda in the Russian line, was still no exception. Engineers came to the rescue by developing Skyactiv technology; This, in general, is all that we do not see, but we feel in motion. For example, a new two-liter 150-horsepower gasoline engine (with its own name Skyactiv-G), according to Japanese engineers, became 15% more economical than the predecessor of a similar volume. In the latter there is a considerable merit of the Start/Stop system, about which I completely forgot and even managed to get scared when the test Mazda engine was quietly and peacefully stalled in front of the first traffic light. By the way, the engine will shut up only when the brake pedal is squeezed to the stop. The atmospheric engine itself is quite frisky, and it responds instantly to the slightest pressing of the floor pedal of gas, allowing it to easily pour into a quick transport flow. A new quick-footed SkyActiv-Drive automatic machine also helps him, which exactly, without jerking, sorting out all six programs and, under the usual conditions of movement, is quite satisfied with his work. The box does not have a sports regime, so the drivers who decided to be finally disagree with the actions of the mechanism will have to choose programs manually. Mazda and mechanic have, also new and also with six steps and there is only one motor so far. Although, the company also speaks about the possible arrival of a 2.2-liter diesel engine with a capacity of 150 or 175 hp.

As for the chassis, it was traditionally set up on CX-5, with sports notes; Storming a turn for a turn is easy and pleasant. But what the driver likes, passengers will not always like. An elastic and rather tough for the crossover, the suspension carefully rounds the small and medium road flaws, but the larger pits are given in the passenger compartment of an unpleasant shake. But how clearly the car holds the given trajectory: even in high -speed turns at the interchanges, the driver does not have to steal, and the tall body does not scare with strong rolls.


But this Mazda does not differ in silence: winter tires are noisy, the whistle of wind near the outer mirrors becomes noticeable by 110 km/h, and the motor, reaching high speeds, persistently makes itself felt.

I didn’t get to serious off-road, and not for it an all-wheel drive CX-5 with a multi-disc couple, but I checked on geometric patency properly. A small convex pass succumbed without difficulty, Mazda did not even catch the bottom: a rather large wheelbase (2700 mm) of the Japanese crossover compensates for a 210-mm roadwash. But on a more steep sandy slope, they had already decided to climb a long front overhang would work here as a bulldozer, which was not my plans. Anyway, it is unlikely that we will often see CX-5, storming the hills and broken roads. There will be much more of these crossovers in cities and their environs. They and here have no less work, because we have snowy winters, and Russia's roads are mainly for such cars and are designed.

It turns out that with the new philosophy, Mazda remained true to her traditions. And as before, if you are ready to sacrifice a little comfort, you can get in return truly drivership. By the way, the future appearance of the entire model line of the company depends on how warm fans of the brand will accept the exterior of the CX-5. Something suggests that soon such a corporate face we will see not on one Mazda model.
