Mazda BT-50 test drive since 2010 pickup

Test drive Mazda BT-50: Karelian passions

Our satellite on the trip to Onega was the Mazda BT-50 pickup, the Russian debut of which took place in the fall of 2006, and two years later the Japanese pickup underwent small restyling.
We gathered fishing! Yes, not just fishing, but on the Onega Lake, the second largest lake of Europe. It is almost twice smaller than Ladoga and contains three times less water, but Onega water is cleaner than Ladoga, but even Baikal.
The lake is extended by 290 km from the north-west to the southeast at a maximum width of 82 km. The coastline, especially in the northern part, is strongly cut. There are many capes, bays, lips and islands. The most famous on the eastern coast of the lake was Cape Dobrov Nose, which determined the name of a large group of Petroglyphs of ancient rock images, considered one of the most valuable archaeological objects. Of all the open petroglyphs, researchers managed to interpret less than half.
Onega petroglyphs, perhaps the most mysterious and original petroglyphs in Russia. The most popular of them are three images at the very end of the Cape of Demons Nose: demon (large human figure), som (burbot) and otter (lizard).
Thanks to the complex top of the bottom and clean water, favorable conditions for the life of a fish population are created. In Lake Onega, almost all fish are found in the inner reservoirs of Karelia.

Our satellite on this trip was the Mazda BT-50 pickup, the Russian debut of which took place in the fall of 2006. Two years later, the Japanese pickup was subjected to small restyling, during which Beteshka received a slightly different anterior optics, a modified bumper and a radiator grille. New decoration materials appeared in the cabin, amber lighting of the instrument panel (instead of the previous green), a leather steering wheel braid and AUX input to connect external devices to an audio system. That's all.
But for us, as well as for the potential buyer, Mazda BT-50, such trifles are not important. Here, a carrying capacity comes to the fore, which is 1219 kg at a pickupa. I must say that with this task the test BT-50 coped one hundred percent. We managed to place two inflatable boats with motors, tents, an unimaginable number of sleeping bags, as well as a provisions for as many as 13 people in the back of the back of Bateshka. In addition, almost all personal belongings and three more passengers in addition were placed in the Mazda.
After checking the tire pressure and pumping them in accordance with the operation manual, we set off. Ahead was the route of Moscow-Yaroslavl-Vologda-Vetra-Pudozh, which ultimately amounted to about 1100 km. A little about the road. Asphalt throughout quite good quality. From Moscow to Vologda you can get in one breath, and only after Vologda does a protracted forest road (about 270 km) begin with large waves. In addition, at the entrance to Vytegra, the asphalt suddenly ends, and the usual primer begins, along which about 2 km will have to be subsided. In the city itself, Vytegra will have to overcome, probably, the worst site throughout the length of the route. Judging by the size of the pits, the asphalt has not changed about twenty years. Even on a loaded pickup with a high profile of tires, moving around the city more than 20 km/h is simply impossible. Having passed the Vythetrogri, you meet another small area of \u200b\u200bthe primer (about 1 km), and that’s all. Further, as if you’ve got into another country of asphalt perfect to the very point of destination.
But what about our Mazda BT-50? On a primer, empty pickups can shake all bones from the driver. The rear spring suspension strives to bounce on every more or less tangible bump. But it is worth loading the salon a little, and Mazda becomes tangibly more comfortable. And in our case, when there was no room in the back and cabin for a penny, the pickup has turned from a car into a large intercontinental liner, swaying decorously on imaginary waves. But you need to be more careful with passing the turns: with a large load to the smoothness of the serpent, large rolls are added, and you have to slow down in advance in advance. But the energy intensity is amazing. Suspension breakdowns here will not wait, and 16-inch discs are well protected from damage to wide tires with the 70th profile.
In the salon, Mazda BT-50 is simple, but functional. Comfortable front seats will not let you get tired on the long journey. But during restyling, Japanese engineers forgot to add adjustment of seats in height, which is very missing here. Anyway. Even with a limited set of adjustments to a person with an average growth, get a pair of trifles at the wheel of Mazda BT-50. But on the back sofa on a long trip will have to be hard. The limited space for the legs and low sofa quickly tire the riders. But to the honor of my companions, they withstood a more than 1000-kilometer journey courageously, never asking for a stop in order to stretch their legs.
The burden of a 145-horsepower diesel engine with a volume of 2.5 liters accelerates the pickup well up to 140 km/h, after which the ardor of the diesel fades. When accelerating from the place, the BT-50 can give a head start to many similar cars, the main thing is to switch to the second in time. The first gear is too short: a little gazed and the failure in acceleration. Otherwise, there are no complaints about the mechanical 5-speed checkpoint.
Mazda BT-50 showed itself well on the highway: 120-140 km/h the pickup holds without problems. The brakes are good. A distinct pedal allows you to dose the brake force without problems, even when the car goes with full load. Since the Mazda BT-50 was not equipped with a route computer, the fuel consumption had to be considered independently. According to our measurements in the mode, an empty night route with full loading, it amounted to about 11 liters per 100 km. It’s very good.
Despite the absence of such a simple option as a route computer, our Mazda BT-50, performed by Active, was equipped with air conditioning, a full electric packet, heated seats, 6th safety pillows, a simple audio system, footboards and 16-inch alloy wheels. In addition, the performance of Active involves a two -color body color. But this option is paid 19 thousand rubles.
Mazda BT-50 is equipped with a constant rear-wheel drive with a connected front bridge. The front wheels are connected without an interdosseous differential, so it is recommended to use all -wheel drive only on slippery coating. Such a layout allows you to use all -wheel drive up to 100 km/h. In addition, Mazda has a special button on the front panel that allows you to turn off the front wheel drive without disconnecting the bridge from the transmission.
The reduced row is turned on only on a standing car with the transfer of the lever of the transfer box from 4H to 4L. Movement on a reduced row is allowed only at speeds not exceeding 40 km/h. Note the presence of a rear differential of increased friction, which, in the case of slipping of one of the wheels, transfers part of the moment (about 20-30%) to the other wheel. Such a system helps to move on slippery coating and in some situations with active driving, when the rear axle is demolished. But with diagonal hanging, this differential is virtually useless.
In any case, on this trip, the off-road abilities of the Mazda BT-50 were not useful to us, and with its functions of a small truck it coped one hundred percent. In the Russian market, Bateshka is available only in the performance of Double-Cab (four-door cabin) and only with manual transmission. The most affordable Direct equipment with unpainted bumpers, without ABS and other goods costs 759,000 rubles. A well-equipped version of the Touring+ with a full electric packet, air conditioning and 16-inch alloy wheels will cost 899,000 rubles. Well, our BT-50 in the top execution of Active is even more expensive than 987,000 rubles. In addition, having paid another 45 thousand rubles, to everything else you can add a leather finish of the cabin.
