This happened, among other things, thanks to the success of the FX crossover, which accounts for more than a third of the brand sales. What is the reason for the popularity of this model, we were versed in the example of the updated Infiniti FX, which received small cosmetic changes, as well as, attention, diesel engine!

Russia is one of the largest sales markets for Infiniti. After the USA and China, we are in third place! Moreover, if about 120 thousand Infiniti are sold annually from the states, we are capitalically behind, then the gap with the Middle Kingdom is not so large. Last year, the Chinese bought about 12 thousand Infiniti, and Russians about 8 thousand. But in Europe, Infiniti, things are not so good that, however, it is not surprising: here even wealthy buyers do not complain of cars with gluttonous gasoline engines, preferring economical turbodiesels to them. But Infiniti respects the opinion of its customers. You would like to get a diesel engine! Now the FX crossover is available not only with gasoline units with a capacity of 333 and 400 liters. With. (FX37 and FX50), but also with a 238 -horsepower V6 engine operating on diesel fuel (FX30D). Not impressive power? But it will impress the torque of 550 nm for fifty newtonometers more than that of the 8 -cylinder FX50! Moreover, the turbodiesel gives these indicators already at 1750 min-1, while the gasoline atmosphere must be twisted to 5200 min-1.

By the way, this diesel engine is not new: the 3.0-frail unit of the V9X series was developed jointly with Renault and already found a place under the hood of various models of the Franco-Japanese alliance, starting with the Nissan Navara and ending with Renault Laguna. Its features are compactness and low weight. So, to reduce the height of the engine, the turbocharger with the variable geometry of the turbine was located directly in the column of the cylinder block. And the block itself made of gray cast iron a casting of it from it is 75% stronger and 22% easier compared to traditional cast -iron alloys.


To reduce vibrations, the motor was suspended on electronically controlled hydraulic power products, but this helped little: at idle revolutions, the diesel engine shakes significantly, and this shaking is transmitted to the salon. However, this is not fatal (for extreme cases, passengers can be closed that you have seats with a vibration massage), and with the start of movement, the imbalance in the engine’s operation disappears as in an airplane, which, after a fairly shaking on the runway, finally soars into the sky.

As for overclocking, the car is gaining speed well, but without the expected overloads and pressing into the chair. Despite the greater moment, the Infiniti FX30D is losing with gasoline versions of 1.5 seconds FX37, and 2.5 seconds of FX50. At the same time, the sound of acceleration here is not so juicy: although the Japanese motorists tried to configure the exhaust system, they did not succeed in getting from the turbodiesel of the rolled bass roar.

But when you look at the on -board computer (from this year it is Russified), INFINITI FX30D fuel consumption indicators are pleasing. After the driving through the autobahn in the suburbs of Munich, where the crossover easily squeezed 200 km/h (with a ceiling of 212 km/h), alternated with a leisurely riding in local villages, the display highlighted 11.4 l/100 km. Given the fact that the equipped mass of the crossover exceeds two tons, this is an excellent result! I was pleased with FX not only by efficiency, but also by handling. Despite the substantial weight and no less solid size, the crossover is by no means a muddy he clearly prescribes turns, confidently keeps the course on the straight line and quickly rebuilts from the row in a row.

In a word, leading infiniti FX30D is easy and pleasant. That's just to the dimensions of the car, I need to get used to the narrow rural roads, I instinctively clung to the side of the road when it was necessary to spread with a truck. And you also need to get used to the poor decoration of the plastic salon, inaccuracy and the unpleasant voice of the standard navigator, as well as a tight trunk. Otherwise, there are no complaints about the car: this is one of the brightest and fastest crossovers in the segment, which looks no less pathetic than Porsche Cayenne or BMW X6, but is much cheaper.


The name of Vettel
Next year, Infiniti will begin to sell the most powerful modification of the FX crossover performed by Vettel Edition. The car, named after the most successful racer of the formula team Red Bull Racing Sebastian Vettel, will be equipped with a 5.0 -fraud engine forced up to 420 liters. With. (this unit sounds no worse than the F1 racing car), lowered by a sports suspension and an aerodynamic body kit. The crossover salon will also be finalized. The total circulation of this modification will be only 200 copies. The price is still unknown, but orders are already accepted.

Our verdict
The success of Infiniti FX is determined by a successful combination of price, dynamics, handling and design. Moreover, many buyers are taken precisely to the appearance of the model, but practicality does not even go to the second, but to the third plan. In this regard, the diesel FX30D in this regard: it is not much slower, but significantly more economical than gasoline versions, and the transport tax rate on it is much lower.
