Hyundai Solaris drove to someone else's “Polo”: the first test

At the Hyundai factory, that under St. Petersburg, the SOLARIS sedan is in full swing. Korean novelty promises a hot battle among state employees. We managed to test the sedan on the factory track among the first media outlets.

Yes, this has not yet happened in one year in the market two folk sedans appeared at once, made taking into account the tastes of Russian motorists. First, the Volkswagen concern has cleared its Polo budget sedan, and now, now its direct competitor to Hyundai Solaris has appeared.
Even at the Moscow Motor Show, the Korean debutant has become one of the main intrigues of a stylish car at a price of 350 thousand rubles. True, this bar failed to keep, and the initial equipment has now risen a little in the price of 379 thousand rubles. In full ammunition, the car already costs 604 thousand rubles.
Then at the Solaris car dealership as a concept, but contrary to the rules of the automakers to simplify the appearance of the serial version from the conveyor, the sedan set off in the same form. And for this, Koreans can be said to be thanks.

Solaris turned out to be quite attractive: slanting front headlights, muscular stamping on the hood, two fog blades, stiffeners, which drops from the rear to the front wing ... Short overhangs and smoothly falling on the trunk of the roof line create a dynamic appearance.

Vaccination of testosterone
Everything is transparent in terms of preferences: if the Hyundai i20 hatchback close to the modeling range is rather a female machine, then Slaris in any body modification will be masculine equipment. The manufacturer has more than serious plans for the new product, the appearance should appeal to the mass buyer.

Therefore, specifically for our market, the appearance of Solaris was made more severe, unlike the kinship of the Hyundai Verna model (sold in China).
Inside the car about the remark, you do not immediately remember the budget. The black plastic of the torpedo is different in a small cell in the Peugeot 308 style. But in the French car, the material is soft to the touch, here it is hard as bamboo.
Of course, the gray velor of the sheathing of doors and seats does not add festivities to the cabin, but this minus is more than compensated by a harmonious torpedo. The central console is made in the shape of a shield, and relief waves on the panel smoothly repeat its silhouette.

At the same time, all the details are tightly fitted, there is not a single random stroke, as if the designer in one breath drew the front panel, never once tearing off the pencil from the sheet. The white opteston light of the devices is a little harsh, which, however, can be adjusted.
It is noticeable that the Koreans gave the design of their state employee to be paramount attention.

Small size
In terms of comfort, Solaris is close to Polo, the front seats are not too hard, convenient and with a sufficient range of adjustments. True, for a driver's seat there is not enough lumbar roller - it is not even in the most expensive configuration. On the front passenger chair in a person with a height of 185 cm, knees do not rest against the glove compartment.

The back in Solaris is cramped, as in most cars B+ and C-class, but for two adults (especially in winter clothes) it will be just right. In this, the Korean loses a little Renault Logan sedan, where there is more spacious from behind.
But the luggage compartment of Solaris in volume (454 liters) and the quality of the finish is comparable to competitors. Both sections of the rear seat easily lean back, providing convenient access to the cargo. A full -sized spare wheel is stored at the bottom of the trunk.

The steering wheel with the buttons for adjusting the audio system and the signal migrated with the i20, but here he had additional buttons to control the phone. The radio, despite external simplicity, with good sound and can take data through the Bluetooth port.

On the asphalt
On the snow -covered track of the Hyundai assembly plant near Peter, Fresh Solaris runs cheerfully. The machine adequately reacts to the steering wheel, and according to excitement, according to driverships, something reminiscent of the good old Getz.

The suspension is quite stiff, with a sharp rebuild, a strong transverse roll does not occur. Of course, feed is prone to skidding: the rear half-dependent beam and low weight (1110-1198 kg) play an important role in this. However, the drift is predictable, and the machine returns to the trajectory under the discharge of gas.

If competitors are less arrogant, then obviously not much. In addition, no one promised that the civil sedan would keep the way as a sports car. The equipment of the car provides a course stability system, which is available starting with the Comfort configuration (from 509 thousand rubles).
The motor line consists of two gasoline units of the Gamma version: 1.4 (107 hp, 135 Nm) and 1.6 (123 hp, 155 Nm). With the last engine and a mechanical 5-speed gearbox, the machine gains speed well, however, the motor clearly lacks thrust on the bottoms. The four -speed automatic machine surprisingly loses a little mechanics and in an acceptable rhythm follows the pedal.

For Russia
Hyundai has trained a car specifically for Russia. Already in the database there is a rear window heater, an increased washer tank and a 60 a/h battery. All wheels are equipped with mudguards, as a digitization, you can order heaters of the janitors and anterior seats heaters.

In a bare configuration with mechanics and a 1.4 engine for 379 thousand rubles, a client will receive a car with a pillow for a driver for a height, a steering column, a hydraulic wiper, front electric windows, a central lock, an icon -mobilizer and an audio system with 4 speakers.
A little. But only air conditioning can be added to this modest basic kit for 20 thousand rubles. The remaining useful options, including ABS and rear disc brakes, unfortunately, are available only from the next stage, the price of which is 424 thousand rubles. An automatic transmission (30 thousand rubles) will be available from the same configuration.

With the deepening of the assembly, Koreans promise to make combinations of equipment more flexible. Like the Vsevolozhsk Ford Focus, Solaris will be collected for a specific client's request. But even with the current proposal, the Korean car looks like a serious opponent in the latest state -owned war.
