General Motors dared to reproduce his legendary Hummer. H2 visited us and left a good impression.The gray -haired general Hummer H1 became a legend during his lifetime, reaching outstanding heights in military and civilian careers. He was a pack mule in sands, mountains and forests and a gallant gentleman at secular receptions. He took friendship with celebrities and did not lift up his nose in a conversation with ordinary soldiers. I learned a lot about first -class drinks and expensive costumes, but did not become a gentle or snob. He is the perfect officer who is not averse to seeing many impregnable beauties from high society next to him.
We had a meeting with a descendant of the famous veteran. What young man got up? What has you grown? Children of great parents have their own, atypical for others, opportunities and difficulties. Indeed: a child from an early age at a special position and over the years, even if he wants, cannot become completely ordinary. He always goes along the train of the glory of the ancestors, which becomes a trump card and a curse at the same time ... In such thoughts, we spent time, waiting for the appearance of Hummer H2 due to turning the forest path.
The car rolled gently and almost silently, solidly sniffing the rear suspension pneumatics. I’m ready to swear: even before he discovered himself, one could feel the approach of something massive.
Definitely, his muscles are increased on the same wide bones as that of the ancestor. However, our new acquaintance preferred the civil service, so its relief was not created in hard work in the open air, but in a bright and spacious gym.
The family profile is no longer so rude, but every feature reminds of belonging to a sweet family, to its rich history. This is akin to the use of accessories in the front military uniform, reminiscent of the former. Recall the dagger of a modern naval officer of such things is nothing more than a decoration, but create a special mood.
H2 a little more compact than the parent dropped 15 centimeters of width and length and about 300 kilograms of weight, only in height added. The clearance decreased by more than one and a half times, which made it possible to place the riders with great comfort, however, to the detriment of the off -road qualities of the machine. However, the breed takes its own. Enough a look to understand: there are a little barriers to which H2 saves. By the way, he retained a permanent drive to all wheels placed in the corners of the body, which ensures the absence of overhangs.
In the external design, such severe details of the equipment of a born traveler, such as massive handles on the hood or clips of his additional fixation in case of severe damage, also survived. The only difference is that they are made of civilized plastic instead of condo iron, it looks aesthetically pleasing, not subject to corrosion, but requires more accurate treatment.
The design of alloy wheels, hinting at the presence of centralized swing of tires, pure fox water. But the BFGOODRICH 315/70R17 tires themselves are real.
To get into the Hummer H2 salon, you do not have to lift your leg high. It is enough to stand on a massive threshold, and you are inside. The soft, cozy chair of the driver wraps up from all sides, reliably and carefully holding the rider. It is not as free here as in other American cars, but a pleasant sense of security is aggravated. The adjustment range is truly huge. Of course, they are all electrical, including setting up a lumbar support.
The internal space is formed by deliberately straight chopped surfaces. The dashboard with white round scales and black digitizing is perfectly visible and pleases with informativeness.
On the central console, below the deflectors who give it a similarity with the physiognomy of an alien monster, a standard player with a CD changer, climate control units and transmission modes, as well as the emergency signaling buttons. Under the right elbow, comfortably lying on the central tunnel, a box for small things.
The main controls are made under the big hand. The most characteristic is the automatic transmission selector. Working with him, you recall the ship's telegraph and once again think about what power you command. Massive handles have a long move, but do not require much effort.
Ergonomics as a whole is well worked out. The inconvenience causes only the use of a knife parking brake (especially those who like to sit close to the helm) and door handles, which is not easy to get out of the handrails just above.
At the disposal of the rear passengers, a comfortable sofa with a table taken out of a chubby back, personal control of a microclimate, a cigarette lighter and a large supply of living space. Behind the sofa, a spare wheel, which seemed in the room with a huge, and an additional passenger place with all the adhering attributes of comfort.
A thin plastic handle helps to open the trunk, which does not inspire confidence. However, the heavy door rises easily. Before us is a square cargo opening. On the right wall, the connection connector to the tire swing compressor. In three doses, remove and roll out an additional chair. If you now fold (in parts) the back of the sofa, you get an absolutely flat cargo deck that extends to the front seats. From the inside, the cover of the cargo compartment is equipped with a leather strap, but if you use it only, the door will fall down with lightning speed, forcing you to a reflex choice: either to catch it, or to save yourself.
To access the motor compartment, it is not enough to pull the handle in the cabin. We throw off plastic clips with an elastic rubber part and, by applying an effort, raise the hood using special handles. The usual word hood does not reflect the actual impression of the operation. A man who, at least once in his life, standing close to the raised span of the Palace Bridge in St. Petersburg, will understand what was at stake. The size of the machine department is impressive. It must be that even for a small engine repair you will have to build forests or lower the mechanics with a winch (it is almost impossible to reach the motor from the side).
The Vortec 6000 V8 6,0L engine is capable of transferring 316 hp to the 4-speed KP. Power at 5200 min1 and 488 Nm of torque at 4000 min-1. The H2 force policy is significantly different from the one that the glorious ancestor adhered to. The H1 turbodiesel 6.5 of a lower power (195 hp) works, but much more moment: 583 Nm at 1800 min-1.
The hijacking to the ancestor in patency, H2 has the best dynamics, comfort and controllability. From a possible hit in freelance situations, the driver insure the Traction Control and ABS.
The car is muffle. Passengers do not have to frantically clutch at the handrails thanks to good fixation of the body even when overcoming serious barriers. We overcame all -terrain vehicles with a margin for civil life (we overcame the sandstone of motocross in the highway mode of the transmission, only once moving to a low row).
H2 has become one of the best luxury class SUVs. The car is half the cheaper H1, is much more adapted to ordinary life and will surely conquer the location of many people. And legends? God is with them. They are not inherited. Yes, and that is true: with all the attractiveness of the great, in everyday life most of them are heavy.
