Test drive Honda Stream 2000 - 2003 Minivan

Streaming to excellence

Honda Stim - a car or a car?
For the first time, Honda Stream was shown in Japan in 2000, and less than a year later its European debut took place. The seven-seater mini-wen is built on the elongated platform of the new Sivic. Along with the front -wheel drive, an all -wheel drive modification is also provided. Engines - gasoline, with a volume of 1.7 and 2.0 liters, gearboxes - a mechanical five -speed and two machine guns - four -speed for a 1.7 liter motor (not supplied to Russia) and five -stage for a two -liter one. The price range in Russia is from 22.9 to 27.9 thousand dollars.

About ten to fifteen years ago, until the name of the mini-van has taken root, the UPV-a station wagon of increased capacity was in use. This definition pops up in memory when you see Honda Stim: an elongated body really gives it a resemblance to the grown universal, the rounded contour of the side glazing visually facilitates the feed. It was such perception that designers sought, trying to emphasize that this is almost a passenger car, no less elegant, but much more spacious. After all, Stream simultaneously has to act in two qualities: to play the role of the missing station wagon in the generation of Siviks and be a completely independent mini-wan.
Passenger stream
More than one and a half hundred horses of a two-liter engine provide Honda Stim excellent dynamics: acceleration to 100 km/h at 11.1 s and a maximum speed of 200 km/h. By the way, Bukovka I, which appeared in front of the VTEC abbreviation on the engine, indicates a significant change in its design. If earlier he had a unique mechanism for regulating the height of valve lifting, now the gas distribution phases change - the solution is simpler, but no less effective.
The automatic box crosses the gearing gently and almost inaudibly, setting up on a calm ride. If desired, you can more actively participate in the control process - in the left position of the selector, the manual control mode of the box is turned on. Stream behavior is quite passenger: quick accurate reactions, powerful brakes, moderate rolls, sharp steering wheel. The latter, by the way, with an electro -hydraulic amplifier. Its pump is given by a separate electric motor, which makes it possible to optimally adjust the efficiency of the amplifier, regardless of the revolutions of the motor.
In general, a respectable gentleman, who chose a stream instead of the usual sedan or station wagon, can not be afraid for the image - no one will reproach him for bad taste and will not compare it with the wagoned.
Stream is a wagon
You are convinced that Honda Stream is a real mini -wan, barely opening the door. Huge openings, a tall and spacious salon with large windows. The floor is even, without protruding thresholds and the central tunnel, comfortable seats are located quite high, the seat of the second row is split, and both halves have separate longitudinal adjustments. The salon is finished with solid plastic with inserts for titanium, in secluded places there are many boxes and shelves for small things. The transmission box control unit with a tricky figure groove of the selector is located on the ledge of the central console - the solution tested on Sivik is more than appropriate.
The stern is a long and voluminous cargo compartment, where it seems to be even a small desk. The trunk could be more spacious, but part of the height takes the folded third row of seats. To decompose it, it is worth studying the instructions - without it, it is not easy to master the cunning mechanism. The passage back is convenient - chairs of the middle row, folding their backs, helpfully drive far ahead. Surprisingly, additional seats turned out to be not at all a mother-in-law (once the tiny leaning seats in convertibles were called that). Here, even large passengers will easily endure the long road - it was in order to make the third row full -fledged, it was necessary, in comparison with a five -door Sivik, to increase the wheelbase by 45 mm. So, when a summer weekend comes, a vacation, it will happen to buy a TV, guests will come or have to take your favorite dog to the exhibition - a rare car will cope with this better stream.
Like most models of this class, Honda Stream is saturated with elements of safety and comfort: central castle, immobilizer, ABS, belts with tensioners, four airbags, climatic installation, electric drives, glasses and mirrors, heating of mirrors and front seats, musical preparation with four speakers, as well as fog lights and alloy wheels. Stream with a two -liter engine and an automatic transmission costs $ 27.9 thousand. The mechanic will cost a thousand dollars cheaper. The most accessible 1.7-liter modification for $ 22.9 thousand, almost as richly equipped. Warranty obligations are very attractive - three years or 100 thousand km. Honda cars are known high reliability, so there is no reason to fear that the service will have to call more often than once in the instructions of 15 thousand km.

In the middle row, two passengers will be placed with maximum comfort.
The service of passengers of the third row is a separate remote control for climate management.

The contents of the trunk are hidden by a removable soft curtain, under the floor - folded seats of the third row. Behind the third row there is even a small baggage compartment.
