It seems that the company Ford has encountered a symbol of Russian small business - on the gazelle and bulls. The new Ford Ranger should theoretically oust them from our roads.
When a monument is erected to a Russian entrepreneur without the formation of a legal entity, he will not be equestrian. The bronze businessman will proudly look at the bright future from under his palm, sitting in the cabin of a battered gazelle. But if this happens, then only after the end of the initial accumulation of capital ends, finally.
And many years ago, when a similar process was in America, a pickup was invented there. An unpretentious car with a small cargo platform and a cab for several people. To this day, hardworking pickups carry cargoes and take them, they are being taken throughout the country.
Simple as pick-up. The Ford Ranger cabin is the holy simplicity itself. It is trimmed with practical gray plastic and completely devoid of any frills in the form of wooden panels or seats electroregulations. A simple combination of devices, a minimum of additional handles and keys. Only the most necessary. Air conditioning, heating the driver's seat, electric mirrors are provided only in the XLT configuration. The buyer of a more democratic version of XL is forced to be content with electric windows. But at the same time, it saves more than $ 4 thousand by car. By the way, ABS is also provided only in the expensive version of Ford Ranger.
But all the Ranger, which Ford plans to sell in Russia, go on sale exclusively with a double cabin designed for five passengers, and only in all -wheel drive. Obviously, marketers, not without reason, considered the Russians a very companional nation moving exclusively along disgusting roads.
Oat bag. Ranger is a workhorse. Therefore, it has a reliable and unpretentious diesel engine. Alas, with all the ensuing consequences: for example, we noted strong vibration at idle. On more prestigious diesel SUVs, they fight her, and it is almost invisible. But here it is enough to turn the key in the castle, and the Ford begins to shake like a river tug-lamenter. The levers of the checkpoint and the handouts at the time of starting the engine generally describe complex curves, like intricate nozzles on a mixer. The heated engine is much less sausage, but it is better to refuse a traffic at a traffic light from the habit - the trembling is not very pleasant.
Ford Ranger must be used to the movement of the Ford Ranger movement. The engine begins to noticeably only after the turbine is connected to the operation. This happens at about 2100 rpm. And at low speeds, diesel almost refuses to push a car weighing about two tons. Even promoting, the engine will quickly die-the first-time transfers are executed on Ranger too short, and in order to briskly gain speed of 60--70 km/h, you need to actively work with a rather stiff clutch and box.
The third gear is quite long, but on the fourth there is practically no sharp captures of the motor and turbine. It is enough to lose speed on the highway, as you have to switch down again and start acceleration almost again. Therefore, in urban traffic jams, driving on Ranger is not riding, but a continuous torment.
How to go? It is natural that we rode mainly on regional roads - in urban conditions, dimensions also cause additional troubles. In any parking lot, we took one and a half places, and in the cracks that were quite affordable to the driver on a full -sized SUV, we did not even look. When reversing moves, a hard top for a cargo compartment interferes - any maneuver is carried out either along the side mirrors, or by ear. An intra -sulfate mirror performs an exclusively decorative function: little can be seen in it - except at night the headlights hanging on the tail of the car.
Really driving on this car can only be evaluated outside the city. On the empty highway, Ranger is very confidently holding a cruising speed of 120 km/h, which is very good for a car of this class. But we do not advise to get involved in racing on this pickup. Firstly, I did not like the brakes. Some of them are weak for a two-ton truck. The full -time vacuum amplifier was clearly not enough for emergency braking in the style of the famous advertising, what are we standing? Waiting for anybody?
Ford Ranger is also decent Kozlit even on small bumps. The design of the rear suspension is affected - springs and an uncertain beam of the bridge. However, you can get rid of this phenomenon by loading a concrete plate of kilograms into the body at 500 (in total, Ranger takes 1135 kg of cargo on board).
We did not disdain Russian off -road. Moreover, Ranger has been prepared for it: the connected front bridge, forced blocking of the rear differential and automatic - the front. The ratio of increased/reduced gear is not the most outstanding - 2.21. But this is quite enough not to get stuck in a fragmented rut or overcome a plowed field, especially after the rain. We coped with such obstacles even on regular rubber, nevertheless adapted for solid roads.
WHERE TO GO? While we rode in the suburbs, the discussion did not subside in the Ranger salon: who, in fact, is this car intended? By logic - it is indispensable in the farm. But in the near Moscow Region, near dealerships and service centers Ford, we, alas, did not observe such. Maybe these farmers have already been born in the Russian outback? But even if so, they are unlikely to be ready to pay in advance for a similar car more than $ 20 thousand (the price of Ranger in a simpler configuration XL). For the most part, Russian farmers prefer domestic, cheaper zila and gases.
Small city business is also not ready to stand under the banner banners. For now, goods are still pulled out on points either on cars or on gazelles - you can buy a whole fleet for the same money.
There remains a very limited layer of car owners, who sees in the Pikupa fan car. A car for hunting, fishing or all kinds of amateur rally-raids and other trophy. But such people prefer to do with a cheaper second-Hand from Europe or even the United States. In the secondary market and prices are lower (even taking into account the customs clearance), and the choice is wider. For example, in Holland, for $ 10 thousand, you can buy the same Ranger, only with a V-shaped six with a capacity of 207 hp. And already with the installed attributes of any fan-car based on a pickupa: an arc with the headlights above the cabin of the driver and a flat lid of the luggage compartment. Ford in our market does not yet offer such accessories. In the official list of additional equipment, we found only a towbar ($ 700), plastic protection of the trunk surface ($ 690) and a rigid top for the trunk ($ 2.3 thousand).
