Therefore, while designers and engineers have created a new Mondeo, marketers have come up with a new Feel The Difference concept feel the difference. In the framework of this idea, the traditional blue color, which has been associated with Ford for more than 100 years, complemented the orange strip designed to symbolize the renewal of the brand, the sun and emotions.
I managed to test the new Mondeo in the vicinity of St. Petersburg, and the solemn presentation of the car took place in the Konstantinovsky Palace, where a meeting of a large eight a year ago took place. Is the scope for one of the most massive brands in Russia? Of course, such an event is, first of all, the intention to position a new model above the predecessor. Well, quite a sound intention, let's see how much the car itself meets the stated standards.
Outwardly, the new Mondeo is really a handsome man: he thoroughly grew up compared to his predecessor and was built on the same chassis as the S-Max and Galaxy minivans. Stylish slanting headlights and bloated wheeled arches resemble Toyota Camry and Volkswagen Passat at the same time as two main competitors of Mondeo. Thus, the Fordovites want to enter two different class classes on one car at once, where VW Passat, Opel Vectra, Mazda6 and others are fighting, and in the lower business class sector, opposing Camry, Nissan Teana and Mitsubishi Galant. The kinetic design, which many struck the S-Max, embodied in the sedan, looks even more impressive. In this long silhouette, you can find similarities with almost any car, but at the same time, Mondeo cannot be confused with any of the competitors. A separate word must be said about the station wagon to ride on it, but its forms captivate even more than the silhouette of the sedan. You understand with your head that such a huge trunk is very rarely needed, especially for an additional payment of a thousand dollars, plus a already worsening overview, but the car looks simply amazing.
The first I got Mondeo with a 2.5-liter turbo engine in the GHIA configuration. I’ll tell you about the engines later, and the salon, to put it mildly, disappointed. After such a bright external design, you wait for the same exciting lines in the interior, and here a banal decoration for wood - an attempt to get into a business class gives Korean and Chinese machines. Although with the level of equipment everything is fine. For surcharge, seats with electric drive and memory for four people are offered. My car was also equipped with parking sensors in front and behind and starting the engine with a button. A little later, an option of contactless unlocking of the doors should also appear. Expensive versions boast of the rear passengers in the racks of the body another curtsy towards the business class. Wide seats are sheathed with slippery skin, and between the rollers of lateral support, it seems, you can plant two such as me, and the seat itself, even in the lower position, is surprisingly highly visible to the minivans. In the sedan, this is somewhat unusual, but it improves visibility. The back is very spacious even by three, and the nominal central tunnel does not at all interfere with convenient landing. But the trunk turned out to be not very spacious specifically for the Russian Mondeo market is equipped with a full -sized spare wheel, and there is a stamping in the floor only for goodbye. Thus, the trunk volume is reduced from huge 550 liters to 493, but it is not very convenient to use it very wide and deep, but completely flat.
Purely out of curiosity, he looked at Mondeo in the Titanium X configuration quite another thing. The design of polished aluminum looks more interesting, in addition, it creates a sense of space in the cabin and does not contradict modern ideas about business. The picture is complemented by a stylish and well -playing Sony radio tape recorder with a chainer and MP3 support, as well as a dissipation of buttons on the steering wheel. At first, the steering wheel resembles a joystick for a computer game, but in most options you understand quite quickly thanks to a convenient menu with full Russification, which resembles a cell phone control. And of course, rotating air deflectors Hello from the Japanese sister Mazda6. All cars on the test were equipped with a traditional arrow combination of devices with two wells, like S-Max. But very soon, Ford promises to adapt the navigation system for Russia, and then it will be possible to order a version with a large color display on the instrument panel.
The list of additional options for Mondeo even includes adaptive cruise control, capable of maintaining a safe distance to ahead of the car, no car has nothing like this in price up to 50 thousand dollars. In automatic mode, the cruise operates at speeds over 30 km/h and is able to slow down and disperse the car itself. But even if the cruise is turned off, the radar constantly monitors the movements of the machines and, in the case of too fast rapprochement, gives the sound and light signal to the driver about a possible danger, and at the same time raises pressure in the brake system, which allows the driver to slow down on the first command as quickly as possible.
The 2.5-liter turbo engine, which is known by Focus ST and S-MAX, endows Mondeo with a very confident dynamics, which is not lost even in the bowels of a stretched 6-speed checkpoint. The motor pulls perfectly after 2000 rpm, and its steam traction persists up to the cut -off, so that you can accelerate in almost any gear. That's just the gear shift mechanism turned out to be not very clear, and the clutch at a powerful motor is long -lasting, so you need to use the pedal very carefully, otherwise a huge torque leads to jerks during switching. It is a pity that the engine is not aggregated by automatic transmission, which threatens to make this worthy motor a purely property of sports-oriented drivers.
A more modest 2.0-liter version is a practical choice. The traction is quite enough for confident movement both in the city and on the highway, and the checkpoint and clutch work more gently and flexible. As a result, the ride is smooth and measured. Of course, after 150 km/h, there is no special dynamics from this motor, but the arrow still gets to the mark of 200 km/h. The golden middle is a 2.3-liter 161-horsepower engine, which, like machines, will appear closer to the fall.
The sound insulation of both motors is excellent, and the turbocharged engine was even a little quieter. Both engines are heard in the cabin only at high speeds, so when you calmly ride up to 150 km/h, you can communicate without raising the voice on this parameter Mondeo clearly replaying its Asian rivals in the business class.
In the new Mondeo, the developers abandoned the double -leaf front suspension, which perfectly established itself on Peugeot 407 and Mazda6, in favor of the traditional McPherson, but set it up perfectly. The back, as usual, is a multi -link. On a broken road, the sedan flies like an arrow, completely without deviating from the trajectory, and only the sonorous slaps of wide 17-inch wheels on the asphalt remind of the imperfection of Russia. The 2.0-liter version is equipped with 16-inch high-profile wheels, but on behavior this practically does not affect the same excellent course stability and a solid supply of energy intensity. For greater delight, Mondeo is not enough only the fraction of the excitement and sports, the car rides very correctly, as if following a rocket with a rocket force. But it seems that the car obeys the driver not because he controls it, but because she has such a program.
We finished in the Konstantinovsky palace, against which Ford Mondeo looks somehow unusual. Meanwhile, criticizing Mondeo for the unsuccessful design of the salon performed by GHIA and the lack of zest in controllability is quite difficult. This is the same as evaluating Honda Civic or Mazda3, the queue for which is already approaching the year. At the time of the presentation, when there were not a single car in the dealers salon, 1,500 prepaid orders were assembled according to the pictures and this despite the fact that the versions with the automaton are not yet available with us. Therefore, the main headache for the Ford for the past few years remains not to be a question of selling cars, but how to knock out additional quotas for the Russian market. There is even hope that some of the buyers of the focus will now spread to the new Mondeo, the benefit of the price of the basic version with a 125-horsepower engine of 1.6 liters begins from a mark of $ 23,850. But very soon prices will be completely transferred to rubles.
Against the background of many -month queues that stand behind the focus and other Ford models, the orange strip looks like a real mockery of people. I just want to shout: instead of inventing new colors, it would be better to increase production capacities so as not to force customers to wait and not to provoke speculation! However, sooner or later, even the Russian market will reach saturation, and then the sun will rise above the marketing department, for which the new Mondeo has been prepared excellently ...
