In the Russian D-segment, Citroen C5 takes only 8th place. But at the same time, for the sales of diesel modifications, this model bypasses competitors. What is the secret of such a phenomenon, we had to find out on the roads of Bordeaux during the test of new turbodiesel versions C5

Sorry, but there will be no cars with such engines in Russia, I have repeatedly heard such a phrase on the European test for another diesel new product. It is in Europe that more than half of the cars drive in diesel fuel, but we have a diesel car, if it is not a truck or SUV, is perceived as exotic. But not in the case of Citroen C5. Every fifth car of this model, leaving the gates of the Russian dealer, works on heavy fuel. None of the classmates can boast of such a result!

What is the reason for this success? And the fact that even with a two -liter turbodiesel and automatic, due to a high torque, a large French sedan is surprisingly cheerful. At the same time, fuel consumption in a damp urban regime does not exceed 10 liters per hundred. Well, outside the city you can meet 6 liters.

Tempting? Undoubtedly. That's just a significant overpayment for diesel eats all fuel savings. However, cars with such a motor have another advantage of a large mileage at one gas station. So, seeing on the display of the on -board computer the test Citroen C5 inscription, which reported that diesel fuel would be enough for almost 1,500 km, I did not believe my eyes. The gasoline focus taught that half of the tank was enough for about 300 km, so four-digit figures for the course of the course for me is something from the field of fantasy.

But for the owners of the Citroen C5, which is now equipped with two new diesel engines, 2.2 HDI (204 pp.) And 3.0 V6 HDI (241), this is not fiction, but reality. The first unit equipped with two boost turbines and the 3rd generation Common Rail injecting system, even more economically than a less powerful 2.0 -luxury HDI. On the highway, a sedan with such a motor consumes less than 5 liters per 100 km, in a mixed cycle there is only a liter larger. And we are not talking about any small-leaf, but about a comfortable sedan with a equipped mass of two tons!

204 forces of a new (more precisely, modernized) motor are enough everywhere and always. Energetic accelerations, overtaking on the freeway, everything that could be done on the road without going beyond French legislation, at the wheel of Citroen C5 passed with a bang. And even a 6 -speed automatic almost did not annoy thoughtfulness.

When I moved to a car with 241 -horsepower 3.0 V6, I admit, I experienced disappointment. Yes, the car accelerates perfectly, but a tangible advantage is not felt compared to a four volume of 2.2 liters. And all because both turbodiesels give out the same torque of 450 nm. And the fact that a more powerful unit reaches this indicator with 1600 min-1, and less powerful with 2000 min-1 in real life does not affect. A three -liter unit is better only in acoustic terms: it is a little quieter and when accelerating it fills the salon with a pleasant roar. Is it just worth overpaying 350,000 rubles?

Driving
The turbodiesel spurks to dynamic driving, but the steering wheel and suspension are actively resisting this.

The quality of the finish is five with a minus, and the ergonomics are three with a plus.

Pneumatic suspension is the main value of Citroen C5. Moreover, the benefits of it are not on the road, but where the road ends.

Our opinion
Diesel Citroen C5 find for those who value their time. If you do not get involved in a long -range, you will have to call in the gas station no more than once a month, but with small runes less often. However, in the latter case, it is much more profitable to take a gasoline version.
