CHEVROLET CAPTIVA test drive since 2011 crossover
CHEVROLET CAPTIVA test drive: New look
Compared to the prerestyled version, which was born in 2006, the updated Chevrolet Captiva crossover has noticeably buried and acquired a new line of engines. The most visible external changes occurred in the front. During the restyling, designers dressed a captive into a massive front bumper and a large radiator grille in the style of the latest Chevrolet models, and new headlights were replaced by the former gloomy optics. Despite the fact that they did not change anything from behind, the new image of Chevrolet Captiva is clearly to the face to the crossover. Now we have a bright car that will be chosen not only for a combination of price and operational characteristics, but also for charismatic appearance.
The most visible changes in design occurred in the front. Chevrolet Captiva received a new optics, a radiator grille and a massive front bumper.
Minimum changes in the cabin. Archaic green backlight was changed to a new blue, and the place of the former simple dashboard was taken by a fashionable optronic. It’s still spacious in the cabin, and the front seats, although they don’t shine with lateral support, they have a good profile that will not let your back get tired on the long journey.
A blue control of the controls, the optimal panel of the devices and a slightly different design of the central tunnel between the front seats appeared in the cabin. The traditional manual brake was replaced by electronic, but the large and not very convenient steering wheel remained the same.
The finishing materials practically did not change, the outdated central console was processed in a more modern way, the parking brake became electronic, and two cup holders appeared in its former place, under which a huge niche for storing trifles is hidden.
As before, there is enough space on the second row of seats for passengers of almost any complexion, and in versions with four-cylinder engines and automatic transmission, Kaptiv is still available with a seven-seater salon, even if the third series of seats is not different. With all the seats raised, the shevroke’s luggage volume is only 97 liters, lowering the gallery increases to 477 liters, but if both the rear rows are folded, then the cargo compartment of the captive is able to absorb 1477 liters.
As before, there are no complaints about the amount of free space on the second row.
One of the main news is the appearance of two modernized gasoline engines and turbodiesel. There are two transmission: depending on the version of Chevrolet, it can be equipped with mechanics or automatic. Both boxes are six -speed.
The volume of the trunk is 477 liters. Like the predecessor, the updated Chevrolet Captiva can be equipped with a seven -seater salon.
The best tandem for Chevrolet Captiva is the combination of a new 2.2-liter turbodiesel with a capacity of 184 hp. And an automatic box. 400 Nm of the maximum torque confidently accelerate almost 2.0-ton crossover to cruising 120-140 km/h; after which the ardor falls a little. It is a pity that the box does not have a sports regime to spur during overtaking on the highway, because in the city and medium speeds of traction is enough.
The 2.4-liter gasoline engine, which was equipped with a prerestyling machine, underwent improvements. Among the improvements, the system of change in gas distribution phases with a double upper distribution shaft. As a result, the power increased by 31 hp. And amounted to 167 horsepower. If, when accelerating to 100 km/h, the four -cylinder engine is inferior to the turbodiesel only 0.3 seconds (10.4 versus 10.1 seconds), then the average speed is clearly more modest. And where I pressed and went on a diesel engine, the gasoline engine has to be constantly twisted, and transmission needs to be switched more often.
The best tandem for an updated crossover is a 2.2 -liter diesel and automatic transmission. As an alternative, there is a more affordable gasoline unit with a volume of 2.4 liters, as well as a top V6 with a capacity of 249 hp.
Finally, the third version of the Chevrolet Captiva is equipped with a new 3.0-liter V6 turbo engine with a capacity of 249 hp, which replaced atmospheric atmospheric with a volume of 3.2 liters, which has distinguished enviable appetite. Unlike its predecessor, the top capivum became a little faster (8.6 seconds to 100 km/h) and more economical, but the appearance of turbocharges and a decrease in torque reduced the craving at low speeds.
The engineers of Chevrolet and with a suspension worked. Captiva is stable on a straight line, does not scour in the ruts and demonstrates good exchange rate stability even at high speeds. The smoothness of the course is also a good crossover willingly swallows both very small bumps and rather impressive pits. Last but not least, a good level of comfort was achieved due to improved sound insulation.
A massive bumper, due to which the clearance of the front overview has greatly decreased, negatively affected the geometric cross-country ability of Captiva.
The rolls for the comfort and smoothness of the stroke became the rolls in corners, and the steering wheel is equipped with a new electric power, but it does not shine with sensitivity, as before. Huge in diameter of the steering wheel gives neither a clear zero nor a portion of feedback, which is why you have to guess about the position of the front wheels on the turn.
Despite these shortcomings in a couple of months, when the production of the Gemini Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser, Chevrolet Captiva will end almost the only seven-seater crossover in its price segment. And in a compartment with a spacious salon and a good level of comfort, this fact can be a fat plus in the chevrolet piggy bank.
A fork for prices for updated Chevrolet Captiva ranges from 1 050,000 per crossover with a 2.4 gasoline engine and manual transmission to 1,360,000 for a top version with a 249-horsepower V6 and rich equipment.
Russian prices for a gasoline capivide with a 2.4 -liter engine and a mechanical gearbox begin from a mark of 1,050,000 rubles. The most packed gasoline four -cylinder machine with an automatic machine and a seven -seater salon is estimated at 1,240,000 rubles. Diesel is offered only with automatic transmission and in a rich configuration for at least 1,335,000 rubles, and the price tag for a 249-horsepower gasoline machine starts from a mark of 1,360,000 rubles.
